How is 999 in the pc port?

Does it still have the flaws (no text speedup/having to replay some puzzle rooms like 6 times) as the DS version?

Been wanting to replay 999 but these two things are really putting me off

Alternatively, anyone know how to fix these problems on DS/3DS? I know you can skip dialogue you've already seen before in the save file and I have a completed savefile but as far as I know I can't do all the endings again then
>>
No one knows?
>>
Bump. The price seems a bit high for it too.
>>
It has speedup and you can warp to any point you like (just like VLR).
>>
It improves upon everything, but if you're a purist you might not like what they did to the final puzzle. They added a timeline so you can skip around like in VLR.
>>
>>382923127
Some flaws are removed. Biggest improvement is addition of a flowchart. Biggest flaw is the removal of sudoku and it was replaced by a much weirder, easier puzzle.
>>
>>382924519
What did they do to the final puzzle?
>>
>>382924702
They made it fucking shit, you literally just swap out tiles to spell "password" and then put in the password. No sudoku. The editing in the script is also atrocious.
>>
>>382924702
Don't listen to >>382925828

The port is fine and is a massive improvement over the original. The dub is good, the redone art is good, and they fixed all of the major issues.

Just be sure to play in Novel Mode and never Adventure Mode.
>>
>>382926009
Eat shit. It's only an improvement in that it lets you skip repeat playthroughs. The dub is acceptable, though some performances (such as Junpei) are not good. The redone art is also fine. But the script itself is really, really poorly edited. It has typos all over the place, especially missing commas, and a lot of noises the voice actors make, such as grunts, are written out as "...". It needed editing and didn't receive it. The final puzzle is also trash.
>>
>>382926009
What's the difference between adventure and novel mode?
>>
>>382926261
1. You can mute voices.

2. A few typos doesn't outweigh the benefits. The original was handicapped because you were forced to trudge through repeat puzzles and the re-release fixed it. The benefits far outweigh the negatives.
>>
>>382926009
More or less this. The remake made 999 playable but it retained some issues the original had while fixing other, larger issues. The only significant change is the last puzzle which they changed into a trick question.

>>382926460
Adventure mode makes it like a VN experience (character portraits and a text box) while novel mode turns it into a kinetic novel-esque VN (text overlay over the entire screen, going over the characters)/
>>
>>382926521
Adventure Mode is only dialogue, Novel Mode has ALL text. There's no reason to play Adventure Mode, it's just a poor replacement for the DS' two screens.
>>
>>382926521
1. I don't care if you can mute voices. Being able to mute voices has no impact on the quality of the voices themselves, which was the thing in question. Keep your argument straight.

2. I never said that the negatives weren't outweighed by the benefits, but to dismiss the horrendous editing is a disservice. They fucked the script.
>>
>>382923127
Ds version did have speed up text, though?
>>
>>382923127
replay and finish for the first time or did you already finish it previously?

PLEASE finish it on the original DS. Because the PC remake changes plotpoints and it ruins the final plot of the game. It literally changes the most important part of the game which is why I can't recommend the PC version unless you already played through it on the original DS.
>>
>>382926934
>Because the PC remake changes plotpoints and it ruins the final plot of the game. It literally changes the most important part of the game which is why I can't recommend the PC version unless you already played through it on the original DS.

Except it literally doesn't you retard. I played both versions through to the end and while things changed, they still retain the same level of impact and importance.
>>
How can I play Ghost Trick on PC? Do DS emulators work well?
>>
>>382927197
Yeah emulation works well but Ghost Trick isn't worth playing if you already finished 999.

It pales in comparison and the puzzles are really obvious from a glance and therefor feel a little bland. Watch a lets play or something and skip through dull parts. The story is fun but don't expect high quality or mind blowing plottwists or anything like that.
>>
>>382927197
they work fine, but you could also just buy the ios version if you have an apple thing

Fucking dumb as fuck. You blew it. Shut up.
>>
>>382926909
I think he's talking about the text scrolling slowly.
>>
Is letting you jump back for convenience really that worth it if it gimps the tension though? especially since 999 is such a short game a flowchart isn't that needed. The bad endings lose their edge that way, the feeling of getting them goes from "oh shit you fucked up, you're fucked up. fuck why." to "well that's too bad lets see what's next" Makes it more like a going through a shopping list, makes your decisions/characters death have less weight because you can easily go back anyway.

I haven't played the game in the while but for most puzzles once you get the final password from memory/a walkthrough you can just input it instead of doing the other bullshit again right? Why is it such a huge complaint?
>>
>>382923127
It has VLR's tree thingy so you don't need to replay shit thousand times, and it has speedup.
It's perfect really aside from the final puzzle being inferior to DS due to obvious one-screen limitations imposed by PC.
>>
>>382927356
Other games can also be good anon, 999's story doesn't warrant it being put on a pedestal. Ghost Trick's got style, more likable characters, and though the twist isn't as much of a NANI THE FUCK it's delivered well and has one of the tightest ends I've seen in a game.
>>
>>382923127
DS is still the definitive version of 999. Fuck flowcharts.
>>
>>382930824
Not even close. The number of fixes the Vita/PC version have blows the DS version out of the water.
>>
>>382930938
What are they supposed to fix, exactly? What was wrong in the first place?
>>
>>382931059
They fixed the twist so it doesn't have any impact now ;)
>>
>>382927606

I still don't get this fucking game after two playthroughs. Who the fuck is That Guy?
>>
Finished 999 on DS last night
Are the PC versions of VLR and ZTD good? Because I don't have a Vita and I don't really want to play them on my 3DS
>>
>>382931561
That Guy is a bit of a weird translation to use. The actual Japanese is "aitsu", which is a rude way of saying "you". The actual name of the thing is Self, which is basically an extension of the player into the space of the fictional universe.
>>
>>382931561

>0, a point, everything and nothing.
>Not a god or a devil, the trinity
>A pair as a whole, or possibly a middle ground.
>In between red and blue
>who is the one always behind the characters?

You should be able to figure it out from this.
>>
999 was specifically developed to be a DS game, every other version has had to make bad compromises that damaged the original intent. Just emulate it or buy one of those reprints.
>>
Started playing Ever17. Are the other works in the Infinity saga good?

I've beaten all of ZE.
>>
>>382931947
>>382932171

Ever17's Blick Winkel made much more sense to me, and I didn't even realise the whole aitsu thing existed in this game till I started doing some extra reading later on.

Remember11 was good but god damn is it hard to fully understand.
>>
>>382931867
It's hard to boil down into one word but they're not worth it at their current prices. Either pirate or wait for another sale. They do run well if that's what you were asking.

PC versions of VLR and ZTD are actually the definitive versions. VLR's port actually fixes the terrible interface from the 3DS/Vita versions.
>>
>>382932256
never7 isn't bad but is definitely a lot of happy hanging out time that eventually gets more serious, it's pretty similar to ever17

remember11 is 999 but snow

>>382932294
it's pretty similar but not the same
>>
>>382932429
>remember11 is 999 but snow
Hell yea

>never7
Yea, apparently it's a dating sim. I might handle it. BUT! There's still ANOTHER 2 games. Games i NEVER heard of: any info on them?
>>
>>382932607
never7 is not quite a dating sim, each route does have serious plot going on

recommended route order is yuka -> haruka -> saki -> kurumi, overall it's not an amazing VN but is pretty decent

the other two you're thinking of are 12riven and code_18; 12riven is untranslated and not being worked on and was written by uchikoshi, while code_18 is just a cash-in title that's shit and has nothing to do with anything
>>
>>382931867
There's no reason not to play VLR or ZTD with PC. I advise picking DS version of 999. So you did fine.
I DID play VLR on the 3DS though and it was great as well.
>>
>>382932607

Never7 is a romance VN that has that Uchikoshi trademark sprinkled in it here and there until the final route where he's finally allowed to do his usual thing.
>>
>>382926261

Not him but fuck off. The port is definitely an improvement. Your opinion is trash.
>>
>>382932256
I beat Izumi cure (the true route) of Never7 yesterday. It was pretty nice overall, I enjoyed it, but probably because I had low expectations from the howtodrawmanga tier art. Yuka and IC routes are the only ones that feel whole to me, the rest range from okay/meh/bad and feel very tacked on.

cure syndrome was some good shit,
even if it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief the game gave me enough pseudoscience to buy it. It's a pretty good meta excuse for Uchi's death of the author mindset.
I wonder why he didn't reuse this for the ze series.
>>
>>382932746
Ah, thanks pal

>>382932850
Yea, then I'll finish up Ever17 (LEAVING THIS THREAD NOW), play Never7 and then the last one.

and head back to my pornographic dating sims. Unless you know any other thriller type VNs?
I got ZE, DR, Higurashi, Umineko, They Way We Were, and a few others under my belt.
>>
>>382932895
he basically did reuse it man
>>
>>382932804
>I DID play VLR on the 3DS though and it was great as well
It's cool for the whole Sigma's robot eye is the bottom screen thing, but you also run the risk of save bug.
>>
>>382933009
root double and i/o are both by uchikoshi's friend nakazawa, who wrote a large amount of remember11 and the You route from ever17

root double is pretty good and i/o is interesting but flawed and might be really fucking confusing, use a guide for it if you play it
>>
>>382933009
You better play root double too. or ELSE.
>>
>>382933009

I hear Root Double is good, but I've yet to play it myself.

YU-NO is pornographic as fuck but is a great one, I love how those PC-98 style VNs look and the music and story are both awesome. It also has a bit of a point and click adventure aspect to it.
>>
>>382933204
>>382933141
>>382933123
Lel, I know what to play.

I bought a fucking superpowerful PC that can run Witcher 5 and all I do is play goddam Microsoft Word 98 level VNs.
>>
>>382927356
I wish I could cave your fucking skull in with a hammer for the horseshit you just spewed.
Consider myself baited because you are a fucking fucking faggot.

Also, Ghost Trick is the best, it's easy sure but the story and characters carry it.
Bonus points from me since I started playing it at around 11PM and finished at 5-6AM around dawn, just as it actually dawns ingame too.
Shit was great.
>>
>>382927134
What did they change, out of curiosity? I adored the original story on DS.
>>
>>382928495
This isn't VLR, certain rooms require you to do certain actions before you can even attempt certain rooms. I remember the kitchen for example being something you have to get the code for, because he'll otherwise be like "Oh I don't know the password"

It didn't change anything other than the final puzzle sinces PCs obviously don't have two screens vertically stacked.
Pic related is how final puzzle looks on PC.
>>

It's been said a few times in this thread, read a bit.

>It didn't change anything other than the final puzzle sinces PCs obviously don't have two screens vertically stacked.
It's hard to tell if you're being ironic or just retarded.
>>
>>382933412
Huh, turns out I had heard about Root Double earlier. I'll definitely play it next.

I/O seems interesting. I might play it after Indigo Prophecy.
>>
>>382933992
It's hard to tell whether you're inbred or just clinically retarded or both, because everything I said is true.
Akane's plotpoint is not changed at all, just the way it's presented in the puzzle is inferior due to PC's not having a second screen on top to go upside-down with.
>>
>>382934172
>It didn't change anything [...] since PCs obviously don't have two screens vertically stacked.
That's literally an incongruous statement.
>>
>>382934278
Which part of "OTHER THAN THE FINAL PUZZLE" do you not understand you nigger piece of shit? The entire plot point about time travel shit is still kept and Akane watching a recording is still kept. NOTHING except that final puzzle is changed.

Learn to fucking read next time, seriously die in fire since that's all you deserve you inbred amerifat with no reading comprehension.

If I could I'd personally fucking disembowel you, set your intestines aflame and then feed the ashes to your agonizing corpse.
