My favourite weapon is the Dual Blades. They never really get much attention, but are great fun to play. They are not Op bullshit like the CB or GS, not UP like HH. They are not annoying as fuck like LS, and have no stereotypes attached to them like *je suis monte*.

MonHun gets very fun if you have a couple of friends you hunt with all the time.

If LBG, then just make a Normal LV2 set, that will get the job done, you can get into elements slowly it is slightly stronger than a good normal set but requires a ton of weapon/armor/ammo management, status is a forbidden art and you shouldn't try it unless you are very skilled and have a ton or rare resources for the nitpicky ammo that you have to use.

Long story short just fucking use a normal shot set.

If HBG, then make a pierce set LV1-2 are good, 3 is a bit stupid and only work in really fucking huge monsters like gravios or bigger.
