I had stocked up on a lot of ammo iirc. I didn't like it but had a lot of healing and just powered through.

If you stocked up on stun grenades (which I admittedly failed to do on my first playthrough), that section is hilariously easy to cheese. Stun grenades were overpowered in that game.
