Yes it's true the scabbard is 'worth ten of the sword' because it enables god mode and you can never be killed with it. In one instance Excalibur was actually given to an opponent to Arthur and Arthur was given a fake, and Arthur was very badly cut up while the other guy was fine until the Lady of the Lake cast a spell and revealed the deception. Then Morgana threw away the scabbard and it was never seen again.

Can't say exactly if it's my ultimate personal favorite, but Daystar of BG2 is definitely in the high places for me. This shit was just so powerful against undead and evil-aligned and Sunray was just monstruous, lvl7 spell at the very beginning of the game, still useful up until pretty much the Sixth Act.

You're misunderstanding how the gunblade is supposed to work. Guns are extremely advanced in the FF8 setting. A trained soldier can barely keep himself from falling over after firing a three round burst, that's how powerful the recoil is. The gunblade fires blanks, not bullets. A bullet would break the blade. When you pull the trigger while swinging the sword the force of the recoil causes the sword to swing even faster than what you're muscular effort can do on its own. The force from the recoil is so great that it also causes the blade to vibrate with such a high frequency that it could cut straight through steel. At least, that's how physics work in anime anyway. A skilled gunblade user in FF8 should be able to cut a fully armored man in half in a single swing. Someone unskilled is at risk of breaking their arms while trying to hold onto the sword at the end of the swing.

Those are blanks dude, the problem is that nomura doesn't actually know how guns work, which is why he doesn't know that blanks have these silly tips, and he doesn't know that he shouldve actually turned the gun part upside down, because the way it is now the recoil would actually push the blade in the opposite direction of the edge, meaning you won't actually hit anything. You'll just break your wrists as soon as you pull the the trigger.

It's hard to pinpoint a favorite sword. Ashbringer (Warcraft), Soul Edge, Soul Reaver (Legacy of Kain), and so many others. But, to name one that isn't already posted; Gunslash from Phantasy Star Online 2. It's essentially a gunblade, but with a laser bayonette and FUNCTIONAL gun. They can have absolutely wild designs, but the best ones are the pictured ones. They're so simple and sleek, and they were fun as fuck to play with, even if they weren't optimal weapons.

The Imperial Sword LS tree is sexy as fuck, used it a ton in Freedom Unite. The upgraded gold version is a bit gaudier looking but still nice. I love blades that widen out toward the handle like this.
