Yeah, they took it in a different direction and focused on small, focused character stories. In my opinion and pretty much everyone else's too it worked out super well. The change in tone is great too. Going from being a spectre to working with Cerberus, and being in the outer rim is a big change and made for an interesting story. ME3 is the worst of the trilogy. It's one of the few series where I can comfortably say that anyone who says otherwise is crazy.

What. ToB was shit in everything but the boss fights. SoA had more proper D'n'D quality to it - open world, a city and areas to explore, including sewers and dungeons, a shitload of people to talk to, fucking adventure.
ToB literally held your hand in what you're supposed to do and all the hubs were basically treated as short rest'and'sell stops.

Borderlands 2. Every boss up to the end either gave me a good challenge or absolutely destroyed me, specifically that one giant robot boss up on the highway above Fyrestone, that thing killed me like 30 times.

Then I get to the last boss and it's this giant alien gargoyle that's supposedly slept within the core of the planet for eons and is capable of destroying the world, but I stand still and shoot its chest for 5 minutes and boom it's dead.
