No. Checkerboard 4k rendering is when you render half the pixels of 4k in a checker like pattern and then alternate the other checkerboard pattern each frame.
Then to make it look better they warp the previous frames pixels to look like it would based on the movement of the camera and the depth of the picture etc.

from experience I can tell you, use the extra money for games and buy a Slim. The Pro is loud when playing enhanced games and the differences are indistinguishable.

The Pro also has the same amount of memory and CPU as the base PS4. They only upgraded the GPU for the higher resolution output and that's it. If a game's not built from the ground up to run at 60fps on the base PS4 then it won't magically run at higher framerate on the Pro either.

For more info just take a look at the Digital Foundry channel. They have tons of comparisons where they have to magnify the image by 500% just to spot some really tiny and almost imperceptible differences and maybe a frame or 2 faster on the Pro.

To be fair, the original 3DS is so under powered it'd run Xenoblade at like 2fps.

I have a pro, and if you can spare the extra $100 and plan on buying a 4k TV in the near future, you should definitely get the pro. It also has a "boost" mode which overclocks the CPU and makes games that weren't patched with pro support run better. It's not a massive difference in performance, but an example I can give is on a stock ps4, Yakuza 0 disables vsync when under load and there's noticeable tearing. With boost mode it never drops below 60 fps, so you never get the tearing. If you already had a ps4, I wouldn't recommend the upgrade unless you had a 4k tv.

Is the Pro of any benefit playing Bloodborne? Is boost mode decent?

Boost mode makes Bloodborne play marginally better. Bloodborne has an issue with frame pacing and boost mode doesn't fix it. It's a problem with the game's engine. Boost mode irons out minor frame drops, but it's not a night and day difference. I'd still rather have it.

It really depends on what games you plan on playing. A few games benefit greatly (Nioh) while others don't at all (Prey). My rule of thumb is that if you plan on playing a lot of first party games, and you can find the pro on sale for significantly less than normal price (at least $50 off if not more) then you should go for the Pro. I got mine for $340 and I've seen refurb units go as low as $280. If you can only buy the Pro at MSRP or you live in a country where the Pro is more than $400 then don't bother, save your money and get a PS4 Slim bundle. IMO the improvements are not worth a +$100 difference and the Pro doesn't come bundled with any games unlike the PS4 Slim.

Except there's already a good chunk of games that take advantage of it and all future games are forced to account for it or their game doesn't get released. Plus it's sometimes drastic, Kingdom Hearts 0.2, The Last Guardian, and Ryu Ga Gotoku 6 are perfect examples of being fucked over if you're a base PS4 owner.
