Is Final Fantasy XIV (A Realm Reborn +) the least original Final Fantasy game of the series?

Has there ever been a mainline Final Fantasy game where completely original art design is a minority among asset reuse and recreations of old sprites? Where returning to a world from a previous mainline game is a major selling point? I can't think of any.
>>
9 is basically sold on the premise its a return to the old days. Even uses a bunch of stuff from 1.

4 is pretty much 2 with actual meaning and rehashing some 1 stuff.
>>
>>382848225
9 is probably the closest in meaning, but not in execution. For example, Alexander is iconic in that game.

In 14, you they literally just put the winged Alexander from 9 as a boss fight to make it as blatantly fanservice as possible.

11 was a in similar possition, but they give it a whole new look for alexander and gave him a connection with the totally original "moblins". 14 "borrowed" 11's goblins/moblins with that lore in tact.
>>
>Enemy in one FF game looks like an enemy with the same name in a different FF game
WHAT
HOLY SHIT
THOSE LAZY FUCKS
>>
>>382848815
Most Final Fantasys borrow concepts and names and then redesign them for their world. Usually, story enemies, like final bosses, are off-limits.

14 is ripping models from previous games (10, 11, 12, 13, even Dissidia - which is where this Exdeath model comes from) to represent the exact same characters/same story in a recreated version of the exact same locations. It's basically crossover game tier.

Compare 14 and 11's Shinryu.
>>
https://youtu.be/OfJRm0WssOE?t=17s

This is more or less what FFXIV's endgame and monster design is.
>>
>>382847013
XIV is meant to basically be a FF-themed amusement park.

what the fuck was Alexander's connection to moblins in FFXI? As far as I remember there aren't even moblins in Aht Urgan, and their only story relevance was digging up a statue of Promathia or something
>>
>>382851187
The moblins from CoP are looking for Alexander. They are mislead and think Promathia is their "colossus".

Moblins are very present in Aht Urhgan and they are the brains behind the the trolls.

Every FF game has reused designs as often as new

Even FF7, the one that everyone cites as the one that NO MORE OLD SCHOOL FF EVER had tons of monsters in it that were literally old sprites made polygon for the first time.
>>
>>382851854

Not nearly to the degree of FF14. I don't remember fighting Exdeath or Shinryu in FF7. Or visiting Ivalice or Interdimensional Rift in FF13.
>>
>>382849614
I can't blame them, Square doesn't pay them enough or give them enough manpower to actually make fucking assets. It's pretty sad.
>>
>>382852101
I mean, you fight Gilgamesh and Shinryu in later versions of FF1.
>>
>>382852220
In optional dungeons added 15-20 years after release of the original game. And you don't fight them in the main storyline.

Shinryu, with the exact same art design as his FFV superboss appearance, is literally the final boss of Stormblood. Gilgamesh is in the story as a side-quest rather than a weird boss fight or temporary event (worth noting it's a slightly modified version of his XIII assets).

And the storyline of FFIII was actually incorporated in the game's central lore with the Crystal Tower plot. Cloud of Darkness, Xande, etc. are FFXIV characters with almost the same storyline as in FFIII.
>>
>>382849089
To be entirely fair, 5 is already established to be the game in which game-hopping characters are canon. If Gilgamesh can jump across titles, why can't Exdeath?
>>

Uhh thats exactly what ffx-2, ff13-2, ff-13-3, and various spinoffs do?
The mainline FF is strictly nonrelated.

>completely original art design
FF1

>recreations of old sprites
The fanbase actually likes this. Fighting familiar enemies adds some continuity to the series. It'd be like if spells didn't have -ra, -ga.

>>
>>382852621
Gilgamesh tends to get a makeover. Of the games I know he appears in, he looks fairly different in FF8, FF11 (lol), FF12, and FF13-2.

Exdeath is literally a Dissidia model.
>>
>>382852497
>In optional dungeons added 15-20 years after release of the original game.
Shinryu's the endboss of a a third storyline added five years after the core release and seven years after the initial launch. Of course, MMOs and single-player game comparisons are apples to oranges, so it's not really any use trying to justify it in either case.

I think the logic they're going with in XIV is the Dissidia idea of 3 and 5 being linked and utilizing those concepts since 5 is already the acceptable game for meta references to stem from. The Ivalice stuff is iffy, but I think that's another situation like how X and X-2 made several implications about FF7.
>>
>>382852621
Gilgamesh was kinda established as a game hopping character since he references that himself, however Omega can basically summon whatever the fuck he wants as long as he knows about, and FFV is some ancient legend in FFXIV apparently, so Omega just summons him. Kind of a shitty cop out to just throw in whatever old FF character they want I think.
>>
>>382852972
Exdeath is a fucking tree.
You don't redesign a tree.
>>
>>382852773
Of course I'm comparing the mainline FF games and not the direct sequels. FFXIV was advertising "RETURN TO IVALICE" just a few months ago and that follows a fuck ton of references (including entire areas) from FFIII and FFVI. Don't be a dumbass.

>It'd be like if spells didn't have -ra, -ga.

Yoshi-P is a hack.
>>
>>382852972
He actually does have a different design on his Mobius card. It sucks ass though.
>>
>>382853218
XIV's lore accommodates all the lore-breaking it does, but most of it exists solely to cheat the system.

And then after the base game came out they took the fucking cap off and started pouring the sprinkles like mad men.

It's honestly sad to see that XIV is taking this route. Crystal Tower was one thing, but now it's two themepark raids for an expansion? The fuck? Is the original lore just that weak? 1.0 had a lot of problems, but atleast it tried to stand on it's own two feet. Yoship hasn't done shit but introduce things to please fans, rather than make the game it's own piece of FF.

Falling for the originality meme. That's why we have super buys stupid as fuck designs in JRPG. In a bid to be "creative" they slap everything on it and call it day. Stop doing this and just make something inspired, not novel.

>>
>>382853870
Original Eorzea, for as shitty 1.0 as was, could be said one of the most original worlds in the Final Fantasy mainline. But like you said, Yoshi-P changed it. First it was slow, with a few FF7 references, then starting with the Crystal Tower, FFXIII crossover, and minions, shit went straight to 60.

Modern Eorzea is basically an equal combination of three things:

-trying to continue its own tradition (mainly with some of the primals/beastmen and the empire) and reference a few 1.0 things. Most of the game's original monster designs come form 1.0 and are several years old at this point.

-trying to make Eorzea like Ivalice or some other older Final Fantasy world, often making the old lore less original in the process.

-literally taking things from other games in their exact form (either asset reuse or making old designs 3D) and putting them into the game
>>
>>382854038
At least the main storyline is pretty much all original content aside from the recurring summons like ifrit and shiva and etc. Zenos was an anime trope but at least he was original to ff, even if the final fight with him was a bit undercut by him merging with shinryu

>>
the reason 14 reuses so many assets from other games is because of the time frame it was made in. they didn't have the time or money to make new assets so they used what they had.
>>
>>382857857
that's for launch. It's two expansions in and it's only happening more often.
>>
>>382858002
Because the XIV team realized that fans will not only let him get away with ripping models, they'll celebrate them for it, which is less time and money there and more into XV's fishing VR
>>
>>382852121
is there any evidence of this?
>>

>>
Is Deltascape gonna be FF5 themed or are there going to be other games?
>>
Final fantasy is tied with SMT and Castlevania for the series which reuses the most assets in each installment

Plus, it should be noted that all three series have very few truly original characters - most are borrowed from mythology and literature, at the very least by name

This is the curse of making a series based on fantasy
>>

So do I have this right

Allagans: existed way before the other societies, Xande Clone fucked up shit with the crystal tower and their civilization fell into ruin, what was left probably fucked off into space. Specialized in extremely advanced technology, Chimeric abominations and in terms of magic, were the original Summoners

Amdapori: Existed in the same era as the following two societies and were at war mostly with the Mhachi. Abused white magic until the elementals got pissed and started a great flood

Mhachi: Faggots who enslaved Voidsent and were the original black mages. Because of their abuse of black magic they also triggered the aformentioned flood

Nymians: the original Scholars, who were also in the War of the Magi but weren't as relevant it seemed. Were removed from the equation by the Mhachi who cursed them into becoming Tonberries. Ironically though they're also the only surviving society to this day.

Red Mages: not exactly a nation but were Amdapori and Mhachi who survived the flood in modern day Gyr Abania and realized hey this shit we do fucking sucks so they combined their teachings while also using only the aether in their bodies rather than around them, creating Red Magic

Gelmorrans: Duskwight who had to live undeground because the Amdapori were dicks

Belah'dians: Some egyptian themed Lalfellin faggots who can summon zombies and shit, eventually making Ul'Dah and Sil'Dih. The latter no longer exists

Once a franchise gets long and storie denough the idea of reusing enemy concepts from other games gains the value of also being a nod to its own mythology. Why is MSQ roulette always such a fucking nightmare now? Even the non-sprouts are either running around with no idea what to do, AFKing, or just running into the boss room, starting to AA and then just AFKing. All this laziness is at least cured by the plot, which I enjoyed a lot. I like how they went with Omega being sentient and stuff.
However why would it create something stronger than it if it couldn't even defeat Shinryu?
>>
>>382871297
A few people threw it out that they wouldn't want to implement Red Mage as either its traditional implementation with white/black magic or FFXI being extremely support magic based because neither fit the holy trinity in a smooth, clean way.

But when you just take various things and slap the white/black aesthetic on them and add in a rapier because FFXI, it works fine. Could've also worked fine as a supporty healer, or whatever the fuck they wanted it to be.

Pretty much just like folks don't think they will implement blue mage because the in-place systems will not allow it to actually be faithful to the soul of the class.

They introduced that there are 13 worlds, 7 of which are now Hells, having been consumed by Darkness. The Warriors of darkness come from the one closest to the Light, so much so that it threatened to consume their world, becoming like a Hell but in the context of Light. Minifillia, as the voice of the goddess, goes with them at the end of their arc back to their world to take the light into herself so it doesn't consume their world. So there are essentially 6 alternate worlds left that are not Hells.

What if we do indeed go to Vana'diel, but it's a Hell now?

>Has there ever been a mainline Final Fantasy game where completely original art design is a minority among asset reuse and recreations of old sprites? Where returning to a world from a previous mainline game is a major selling point?

It's not a mainline title at all, but Mobius FF immediately comes to mind. It has everything you said, pretty much. Aside from a few original models, everything is taken from either the XIII trilogy, XIV (and by extension, XI and XII) or X.
And then we have events like the one for the FFVII remake, a game we barely anything about but of wich was dedicated an entire sidestory.

It's just probably Square's tactics these days with FF: they realized new stuff is way too risky for their own good so they prefer create products filled with nostalgia pandering that they can cash on. Not that i'm condemning them all, i'm still excited for Dissidia NT.

How did you get this assumption when I fucking told you about how scatter, Enchanted Moulinet, and the blade works ability work? Well, sure. Some jobs are better at a thing than others. Casters were traditionally better at AOE than everybody else (normally it comes with direct damage tradeoff but lol SE balancing).

Again, if it's an AOE situation, it's not fluffing. Fluffing is when you hit all the rocks in Susano with scatter or foul specifically to inflate your parse even though you only need to hit one. Doing what the encounter requires you to do is not fluffing. AOEing multiple mobs is the intended gameplay.

Allagans were around in the Third Era, so we know there were at least two major civilizations before them. We know they were big into "aetherochemical research" which was basically proto-magitek. Discovered Omega and based a shitton of their technology off of it. End of the Omega questline suggests that includes their ability to ensnare primals. Before that their primary research seemed to involve Voidsent, which was what led to CoD getting into Eorzea.

Belah'dia seems to use some suspiciously mhachi-looking technology, and given their ties with thamaturgy it's somewhat implied they were the remnants of Mhach that fled over the mountains to modern-day Thanalan.

Well the idea is that the reason there's an Omega in every game is because it exists outside of/in between the game worlds. Each Omega Weapon that you fight in each FF game is built by the original Omega and sent to that world.

It's implied that Omega's original purpose for being is actually to destroy Shinryu. Versions of each one appear in almost every FF game to date. Omega, the robot that fought Shinryu at the end of 3.5, may not be the same entity that created the Deltascape. It would be reasonable to think that after defeating this world's shade of Shinryu, the Omega Weapon was meant to return to the Rift with its data. The Omega in the Rift, the one that's constantly seeking to improve itself through combat trials, may actually be the original. The simulations are based off of the entities themselves, and Nero's story justification could be dead wrong. Keep in mind, not only did Nero only bring up the folk tales for a couple of the bosses, but Midgardsormr explicitly states that Omega has no imagination. If all it has to go on is "once there was an evil tree who used void magic" Exdeath wouldn't look exactly like he does in other games. That IS Exdeath from the other games, as observed by the various
Omega Weapons.

If I'm right about this, it also possibly means that Neo Shinryu will be one of the final bosses of the Omega series, possibly O7.

So, will Savage work the same way it did in Alexander (first clear the 1st boss, than the 2nd etc., you can't access instantly the 4th if you want)?
Because the absence of a Faust-like miniboss to DPS check retards make me think that all floors will be free like back in ARR with Coils.

>>
>>382876539

You're missing the point there, il autismo.

I'm using it to distinguish the original Omega (the god-like being that can create sentient life) from Omega (the car-sized robot in FFXIV) from Omega (as seen in FFV) from Omega (as seen in FFXI) from Omega (as seen in FFXII) from Omega (as seen in FFXIII-2) from Omega (as seen in Dissidia).

Did I miss any Omegas?

Cause there are, like, a LOT of Omegas.

Or, wait are you referring to Omega Weapon (FFVII), or Omega Weapon (FFVI), or possibly Omega Weapon (FFX)?

Or could it even be, dare I say, THE SAME FUCKING THING WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT NAME.
>>
I wonder if people complaining realise that XIV is essentially Nostalgia and Pandering: The MMO Experience.
>>
>>382877189
This is the first time the nostalgia goggles have fully blinded me to whether any of these fights are worth a single solitary shit. I love FFV and I just ate this crap up. The Archeoaevis/Jura Aevis fight, Catastrophe, the desert shit, and big ol fuckin tree demon, it all worked for me just for being thematically similar to their namesakes.
>>
>>382877351
Coil was still one where you had to finish the previous turn to access the next, unless you did it after it was relevant.
>>
>>382877351
>Because the absence of a Faust-like miniboss to DPS check retards make me think that all floors will be free like back in ARR with Coils.
Did you join in 3.0? Because the fights were never free for coils until the next tier unlocked. You had to go up each fight every week.
>>
>>382877443
>Or could it even be, dare I say, THE SAME FUCKING THING WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT NAME.
Omega Weapon is not the same thing as Omega you fucking retard. One is essentially just a bigger, meaner Ultima Weapon. The other is a robot with no fucking connection to Ultima Weapon. If you can't distinguish between the two you're literally retarded.
>>
>>382877557
Never played FFV, but V3 and 4 felt really fun. I liked the desert puzzle thing.
>>
Whatever we think about the raid, I think we can all agree that Nero's shit-eating grin is perfect.
>>
>>382877714

Why won't they stop bullying him? Why is my character always agreeing with the other retards when everything Nero says and does is what I actually agree with?
>>
>>382877714
Watching Nero troll Cid the entire raid sequence was better than the actual raid.
>>
>>382877660
Basically the first fight is named Alte Roite, but is based on the Aevis bosses from FFV, Archeoaevis being the first one in the Earth Shrine, Jura Aevis (which the pushover old man Alte Roite transforms into upon death just like the random dragon assholes from a bunch of Coerthas dungeons), and Grand Aevis from the extra content in the GBA FFV. They all used multiple elements, either swapping actively or having forms they went through as they died, and later in the fight would use Maelstrom, reducing party members' HP to critical.

Catastrophe was an ugly fat Beholder that would cast 100G to remove your float status, then spam Earthquake and shit like that. Hallacara-whatever is probably the least faithful of them in that his only real unique thing was turning people into frogs and being a cross-dressing fop who behaved like it was a game, so the fight's faithful to his behavior I guess.

Exdeath I feel will probably have a more involved tree form in Savage like Brute Justice, one that might have multiple targets that need to be focused to prevent them from casting a bunch of shit that's hard to deal with all at once. Otherwise him pulling from the void for empowered black mage spells and all that is par for the course, he's just a buff wizard.

Not a single SB raid will be original content. All three known SB trials are ripped from other FF.

FFXIV's original content is often downplayed, sadly. For example, they threw aside the Shadow Queen (which was already a lacking villain) for more Diabolos.

Okay

letsgobackabithere

it's hinted that the reason omega keeps appearing

is because there's one true omega entity

who built all the other omegas

and sent them out to the various ff worlds

let's not forget that the ultima weapons are just as conspicuously out of place in a fantasy world

so who the fuck built the ultima weapons for omega weapons to be the improvement of

let's also not forget that our ultima is based on allagan technology, who in turn based a shitload of their technology off of omega

including the ability to trap primals

which both ultima and omega have been shown to do

in fact some would say that was the original purpose of each of these devices

XIV is just the first game to scream it in our faces this blatantly

Ironically I remember having almost this exact argument with someone in like 7th grade

Be careful what you wish for
Honestly I would have been fine with Nero dying in the world of darkness
Despite his insufferable smugness and apparent individualism, he still gave it all and would have willingly sacrificed his life in one last heroic stance, it's dumb and common as far as tropes are concerned but it made me like him a lot more as a character
The problem I have with him being still alive is that I'm afraid he might very well become a meme comic relief ala Biggs and Wedge, in which case it would have been plain better that he didn't make it alive out of the crystal tower

I think those 13 are just the strongest entities, be they former heroes or just particularly strong monsters.

Also now that I actually say all that shit I'm not so sure Scathach is one of that world's former Warriors of Light, I think I just heard that somewhere and it stuck in my head. Unukalhai is the only one I know for certain is, and he just had no chance at all and Elidibus had to save him from that world.

>One theory places the void's formation in the hands of champions such as Cuchulainn who wielded a stone known as "auracite" to conquer their plane's primals. The weapon, however, posessed a fatal imperfection: a propensity to bleed primal energies. With each victory, the heroes changed, transforming at last into fiends of endless appetite. Insatiable in ther hunger for aether, they went to war over the stars ever dwindling life-force. It was during this war that the Flood of Darkness was unleashed.

Scathach has no entry since it was published before 3.5. It does make mention of the Hierarchy of Voidsent and how the Cloud of Darkness sits upon the highest rung. Cuchulainn is the only entry specifically listed as a hero.

Given that Cuchulainn's name and design points were literally taken from the Lucavi (a poison breathing fatass) then this is fine, especially considering the lore basically describes Auracite into Lucavi transformations.

Thordan was a great villain:
>We lived a lie for generations and the dragons will never forgive us. Better to keep the lie than to cause civil war which Nidhogg would take advantage of and burn Ishgard to ashes with the distraction. He inherited a lie and saw the promises of the Ascians as the only way out for his people. Having grown up during a 1000 year war, it's only natural that given the power to end that conflict, he would then try and ensure that no man would ever need to suffers those selfsame horrors ever again, even though he would be slowing killing the planet with his own existence.

Gaius was a fantastic villain, Nael was great too. Thordan is a better villain than most other FF antagonists. Regula didn't get enough screen time. Nidhogg is the best villain this game has and I absolutely loved Zenos purely because he was so one dimensional compared to Gaius and Thordan. Even Nidhogg you can kind of sympathize with, not Zenos though. He was just a complete dick and he was all the better for it.

This. That is why people are pissed about the lack of spell naming conventions. It is done to appeal to WoWfags when the name of the game is FFfanservice.
>>
>>382887918
>a game that has cemented itself as a themepark from day one

If it's just a fanservice game like Dissidia then I wish I wouldn't people say shit like "it's the most Final Fantasy ever!". Originality in worlds (where references are just that, references) is a huge part of the mainline series.

Also it wasn't from "day one". Most of the game's truly original models come from a point where they were trying to make a unique world.

>>382888112

Gaius could've been a great villain, in ARR, he's just a jobber in a robot castle who shows up like two times beforehand if you don't count 1.0. If he had lived long enough to be a villain in the second or third expansion, he probably would have been good.
>>
>>382888112
I mean, you can kinda sympathize with Zenos. It was pretty heavily implied that he was basically made into a monster, probably via both upbringing and mad science, to the point that he basically sees everyone around him as pointless NPC fodder.

>>382888112
>Nidhogg is the best villain this game has

>you killed my sister like a thousand years ago and fuck man i am still really not over it

Nidhogg and his horde are the salty juice watermelons of XIV.
>>
>>382888343
Think that force of nature thing is particularly why he was a great villain. You both saw his side and the justice from his point of view, but also your completely different reality that mandates his death, wrong as it is from the perspective of Midgarsormr's brood. Not that he had any particularly interesting lines or great speeches, but just that if you shared his perspective, you can see how right he is to be that mad. Middy himself seems pretty impartial about it, which I've always found a little weird.
>>
>>382866403
XI Shinryu looks like a reskin of Bahamut from 8. I might be confusing him with tiamat though. Regardless he's just a blandgrey generic dragon design
>>
>>382888421
No. It's already a flop. At least the fanservice is good. I flipped my shit seeing Exdeath as a fight.
>>
>>382888538
Is he supposed to just "get over it" then?
>>
>>382888586
I'm pretty sure midgardsormr thinks most of his kids are idiots, in all his interacctions he comes off as a grouchy old man, which is funny since he mostly takes the form of a tiny whelpling. The only one he expressed anything other than condescending fatherly tones for is Tiamat, because shes been stuck in a torture device for the past howevermany thousands of years.
>>
>>382888136
The WoL had help from 7 other people in all of those encounters. They even make a point during the Susano fight to spell out that no-one can face down a Primal alone.
Besides, of course he was more powerful. He was a level 70 dungeon boss and you fought him in a solo instance during your early 60s. When you finally face him in Ala Mhigo, you're with 3 other people that are all the same level as him and it's only together that you can take him down. You can cry that doesn't count, but in game text and cutscenes support player levels and other players actively making a difference in the game. You always have help in these encounters.
Not only that, but he only really lost after handicapping himself. He knew you were the Eikon-slayer and he willingly joined with an Eikon. It really was just a game to him and he wanted to go out with a bang (remember that the heavens weren't a worthy enough arena and he made you transcend the mortal coil.)

People may not like it, but it makes absolute sense for the game to get "meta" and have you lose to an enemy 10 levels higher than you in solo encounters, only to beat them when you reach the same level and have help. Especially when the game acknowledges these kind of events taking place.
>>
>>382888421
Because they made a primary protagonist out of a character who, prior to the last patch of HW, existed only as one half of a brains and brawn style comic relief duo without actually giving her enough time to develop into anything along the way. No it's not salvageable, it was a doomed endeavor from the start because they were asking us to ignore literal years of characterization as a goofy bimbo who punches things and immediately take her seriously.

It is the FF with the most other FF shit in it, so claiming it is "the most FF ever" is not far from the truth. It just sacrifices originality for it, which you don't prefer. It is a themepark for FF fans, if you don't like it, consider other games.

Thordan was fine as motivations go, but I still think Gaius is the best because of his charisma. Regula was hardly an antagonist but I do wish he had lived. I don't see what you like so much about Nidhogg but then you apparently love Zenos too BECAUSE he's one-dimensional. I will never get why you people like that shit. One dimensional is straight up unrealistic and uninteresting. It's a negative meaning. Zenos in particular sounds like he was written by a fucking kid on deviantart ala coldsteel. I couldn't roll my eyes hard enough at his shitty lines.

Google "Final Fantasy 8 Bahamut" or "Final Fantasy 11 Bahamut"
Google "Final Fantasy 11 Shinryu"

These are completely different.

I'm going to disagree with your point on his actual design, but I don't think it looks bad at all. Shinryu in XIV in comparison kind of looks like overdesigned in comparison, to the point where it's hard to see his face from certain angles.

Given his pretty vague shadowy talk about other stars and shit from the Omega storyline thus far, he may well have a bunch of broods on different planets and basically sees their squabbles the same way Hraesvalgr sees our bullshit - insignificant, short lived, and short sighted idiots.

I do hope we can do something with Tiamat at some point, though I'm sure people are getting tired of dealing with fucking dragons all the time.

Gaius is somehow STILL managing to be a great villain from beyond the grave. Their was a sidequest in 4.0 that shed new light on him and really cemented just how noble a character he really was. The Garleans had basically developed a bio weapon like a disease and planned to unleash it in Eorzea but Gaius shut that shit right down because he saw Eorzeans as future citizens of the empire and didn't want them to suffer that way.

Yup same.
His name was always supposed to translate to exodus, but fan translations of FF5 chose to make him EXDEATH because of ironic edgelord reasons so it kinda stuck enough that they officially made his name that for ff5.

I really like original Exdeath though because even with his edgelord name, his look with sky blue armor, non menacing helm design, and gaudy jewelry makes him looks like some kind of dandy. The juxtaposition of that with his name and his 1 dimensional THE VOID mindset always gives me a chuckle.

Not that dude, but Zenos is a big pile of tropes that compliment each other well and he is overall well put together. No one will claim he is clever or original, but he is a more than passable villain and he is entertaining with his dramatics. Not every villain needs to be complicated or sympathetic, its okay to have one dimensional madmen who simply want to fuck shit up for the sake of doing so. An antagonist's role in a story is not necessarily defined by their motivations it's defined by their interaction with and opposition of the protagonist.

I mean, out of all the Ascians Elidibus is certainly the one who would pull many layered levels of acting bullshit, making Lahabrea think he was in control when he was just dancing along to Eli's tune. I don't think he is Gaius, but it's not like it's impossible from a story perspective.

>>382889241
No, 100% not, but his actions in killing the original King Thordan was completely justified and absolutely necessary for their race's survival, and their actions basically drove him fucking insane after gouging out his eyes and holding them for a millennium. If there was any chance of him not wanting their whole race and every trace of their betrayal dead it died within an Elezen generation of them stealing his eyes.

Bahamut Prime wasn't really Bahamut though. It was only an apparition with an approximation of his power. You weren't fighting the elder Primal, just his shade that was lingering whilst he was being stitched back together. Had we fought against Bahamut when he had been fully healed inside the coil, we'd have been Gigaflared into oblivion like it was Cartenau all over again.

Alexander Prime meanwhile wrote himself to lose. He had seen the infinite possibilities of every one of his actions and the only way the world doesn't end is if we stop him and he disappears forever. Had he wanted to, he could have erased us from existence at any given point, instead he created a scenario that allowed us to win and gave him a way out so he could stop interfering with creation.

Zenos wasn't more powerful than the Calamity Bringer or Alexander. It's just that we never really faced the full might of Bahamut and Alexander let us win. We lost to Zenos because he was stronger than us. We beat Bahamut because we had 7 people helping us and Bahamut was at 1/10th of his power. We beat Alexander because he wanted us too.

You are right, but there needs to be a good basis for it too. An off-handed quick comment that he was some kind of science experiment AFTER you've already killed him is not a good way of doing this.
>An antagonist's role in a story is not necessarily defined by their motivations it's defined by their interaction with and opposition of the protagonist.
There was nothing significant here though. He didn't even kill anyone I cared about. Pretty fucking weak for some villain that's supposed to be a one-dimensional fighting machine that just wants to make me hate him. Wow, anyone else notice Stormblood was kind of... racist?

>She's white, blonde, and looks like a model. There are no characters in the entire game who look anything like her and Yda. Ala Mhigo is depicted as a nation of hardy brown people. Her father is a revolutionary leader who obviously managed to make all these people follow him, so presumably they could relate to him. He had to be one of them. His daughters look nothing like anyone in the entire nation, there is no one even in their home village who look anything like them.

>The fact that she does nothing in the game and everyone hands her undeserved adoration and respect is weird, but the fact that the entire storyline is written like this when she's basically the Aryan Princess of a dark skinned nation which was conquered in the first place by an Aryan looking empire.... is really fucked up!

He killed 4 of them. The King and three knights, and in the process lost both of his eyes. Then one of the ones that took his eyes started carrying one of his around and murdering his brood (and probably going after him) for presumably 100+ years.

And yeah his plan is fucked up, a good chunk of Nidhogg's brood who get killed in the war are actually heretics that him or one of his own gave their blood to and transformed into dragons, since all Ishgardians have Ratatoskr's essence and can become dragons very easily. He didn't even want to win the war just to make the descendants of the survivors of that fight suffer for just... forever. He went fucking bananas after the events 1000 years ago. You are right to kill him, but he is also right to be so fucking mad and seek revenge.
