It's strange. It's like they wanted to just use the 3rd game's control scheme but didn't want to change any of the game's platforming sections to accommodate for it. So yeah, there is gonna need to be some patching. You can't just plug one game's mechanics into another game and expect it to work. I 100% as much as I could of the first island in Crash 1 without dying ONCE. Even when I did Lost City for the first "get all boxes and not die" gem, it only took me about 5 minutes to memorize the level, box locations, and way to approach stuff without getting hit, to get the emerald gem there. So far, when its just beating levels its barely a challenge, and when its 100%ing a level its only a minor nuscence. Are people talking about the relics? Cause I know they are hard.

I swear to fucking god I don't even care it's not Platinum I am never going back there unless they fix the physics.

I can't imagine getting that legit (I jumped onto the ropes 4 for 4 gaps, rest was done like it was supposed too), let alone plat. I killed myself for that and probably only had error and one area I had to wait a cycle.

I SWEAR to God that Aku fucks with the landing hitboxes or I had a BAD case of the yips, because i missed the jump to the rope on like 90% of my tries on that 3rd section (Right after the Aku box) and the other 3 jumps I hit almost every time

It's not as hard like Crash 1, (that's due to the game being broken and Naughty Dog not knowing what they were doing at the time), but hard due to the fact that it was intended to be challenging without the game being a broken mess. The remaster applied Crash 3 physics to all three games. This doesn't effect 2 that much, but it makes quite a few levels in Crash 1 significantly harder because several of the jumps weren't designed to leave you with room to get running speed for. For example, in the remake one of the gaps in High Road is actually factually impossible to clear without running before jumping on the turtle whereas in the original you could neutral jump on the turtle and still make it. I absolutely loved the crash trilogy as a child and it really took me a while to get used to Crash 3 physics being shoved into the other games. So in a way, yes, it is harder now when it comes to the first game at least.

A lot more simpler than expected. You only need to do 5 rope hops and they're all in the beginning, before the 2 hogs between the turtle segments. Just make sure you break every time box.

If you keep dying to a certain section of a level the game gives you pity masks for that part of the level, so if you die between the first and second checkpoint for example you will revive with a mask, but dying between the start and first checkpoint or the third checkpoint onward won't give you any mask.

I got the plat relic for Slippery Climb after 3 attempts, High Road took me 40+. There is a stark contrast in difficulty between these levels and I wouldn't even rate Slippery Climb as difficult as say Fumbling in the Dark or The Lab.

Is wiggle jumping still a thing in the remakes?

I've been doing time trials in 1 and even when it seems like I do a level 100% optimally with virtually no errors or mistakes and get like 20 seconds under platinum time, there's always some fuck on the leaderboards with a time nearly 30 seconds fast than that on some levels. Wiggle jumping is the only way I could see that being possible and I do not have the patience to try it myself.

Andy Gavin when the N. Sane Trilogy was revealed said it looks decent. Jason Rubin was proud to see Crash on display at E3. Josh Mancell wanted to work on the trilogy but was turned down by Activision many times. Mark Cerny is currently playing through Crash 1 remastered and has 13 gems but yet to beat N. Brio and Cortex.

That's all I know about the people involved with Crash during the Naughty Dog era. Not their full thoughts on the games but probably interesting to know anyway.

I don't even know how much longer the level is. I've gotten to the second checkpoint only twice in what must be almost 200 deaths. Fuck not being able to get max jump distance unless you're moving forward BEFORE the jump starts. That combined with the slippery turtles makes this a goddamn nightmare. I can't believe this level was shipped in this state.

Notice the fire has more intensity than the PS1 version, but everything else is less intense?
That's not removing colors, that's focussing saturation where light is the strongest. This gives a stronger depth illusion on a flat surface (the screen you look it on).
You'd have a point if the flames (or whichever highest point of intensity) were also muted.
But this is objectively superior artistic direction. High saturation and contrast everywhere means no saturation/contrast at all because everything fights each other. Refer to Bloodstained for an example of actually suffering of what you're talking about.

The contrast range needs to be as uneven as possible throughout space. On the PS1 version, everything is a mess of samey value ranges no matter what it is, what light hits, what local color the object is made of, and what distance is involved. It's objectively poor composition.
The waterfall in the PS1 is the brightest object and also the furthest, it makes absolutely no sense especially when there's fire around.

This is big part of why this remake seems somewhat half hearted. They're supposedly huge Crash fans, want to be faithful to the originals etc. etc. but they don't even get in contact with the original composer who is even seeking them out. Not to mention them omitting many of the small details from the originals and managing to fuck up mechanics.
It's still fun enough to go back to, but shit like this kind leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
