Fire Emblem: Conquest. I didn't defend it but was very excited for it. I thought it was going to be a story about Corrin and his siblings figuring out what to do about Garon and saving Nohr together. The story disappointed me like it did almost everybody. That was the surprise. The gameplay and open world elements also sucked, which I was expecting to hit some resistance with, but that's a less common complaint. I can't understand anybody who defends the game by claiming it has the "best" gameplay just because the controls are smooth.

Bosses are minimal and Skulls are used very sparsely so the only enemy for 95% of the game are regular dudes with varying levels of armour. Skulls should have been used as super soldiers more often instead of trying to be "bosses". Everything is outdoors and neither map has much geographic diversity. Buddies and the vast expanses make the game too easy because now you can headshot people from even further away. V didn't introduce it, but Fultons letting you non-lethally completely remove an enemy from an area screws with the trade-off between lethal and non-lethal options. Being able to viably go in guns blazing destroys the stealth core and so many people seem fine with it because more options is apparently objectively good no matter what those options are. It's dumb that I can speed through an outpost on d-walker or whatever and face no penalty for it because it's nowhere near where I'm going. The side-ops are mind-numbingly repetitive, and the main ops aren't especially unique to compensate. Part of what made the base management in Peace Walker work was that it was simple, and the added complexity to the process in V is not worth the added horseshit like real-time development timers or the absurd amount of resource containers you need to grab.

It isn't even a good idea with unfortunately bad execution in both story and gameplay, the premise is just pointless. I thoroughly do not care how Big Boss survived MG1.

I predicted the game would flop as soon as it appeared on Colbert's talk show. They had a big audience. This was there chance to really sell the game. It was cheap advertising to millions of people. And what did they choose to show? They showed them naming things. Then they spent the rest of the time talking about how big the universe is and the bajillions of planets. There was no real game play. It seemed really obvious to me that this thing was only novel for procedural generation and would be really boring to play. I was surprised that the hype train continued after the Colbert appearance. They flopped hard and everyone just seemed to pretend that everything was fine.

When I finally got a PS3, it was the first game I got. The worst part is, I played 5 recently after being skeptical and it was a lot better. Has its issues, like feeling like a dumbed down 3 and having too many movesets lifted straight from that game, but has some improvements that I'd genuinely love to see in another game in the series that'll never be made.

Fallout 4. I'll still say it's the worst game in the mainline Fallout series, but it IS still pretty fun, and I'm having more fun with it then I did with Fallout 3.

It isn't news to me that people spend their lives playing Dark Souls 2 PvP, there are people who spend even more time on even shittier games. The DLC areas were better than the main game but still of varied quality, as are the bosses. I'm also not about to praise Dark Souls 2 for expecting me to fucking pay extra for the good shit. I can't believe people defend Dark Souls 2 by pointing to things you don't even get when you buy the game. Is there even a version of the game that collects the game with all the DLC without the awful Scholar adjustments? Genuine question, I don't actually know.

I haven't been truly excited for a game for the last six or seven years.

DaS2 isn't bad, what I'm saying is that the PvP is bottom of the barrel schlock for people to inept to invest their time into any other mildly competitive or otherwise versus-based game. But it isn't surprising that someone who wastes their time fishing for backstabs and roll catching for hundreds of hours would be so insecure about the game.

The general gameplay adjustments with regards to enemy and level design in Scholar of the First Sin are fucking worse than the original. But the reason Scholar is actually the definitive version is because it gives you a ring that fixed the utterly broken PvP destroying Soul Memory feature, right? Not because the game is better.
