Crash 1 is currently hard because the physics on jumping are slightly different, and the two bridge stages that relied heavily on the jumping mechanics were not modified to accommodate this, coupled with pixel perfect jumps and a high probability of falling off stuff that you would once land on without issues. This has made 100%ing the game far harder then before, coupled with getting relics.

Crash 2 and 3 are not too difficult on the base game, although Crash 2 can get a bit harder when 100%ing it due to some rather nasty sections. Crash 3 isn't too hard to 100% due to better access to a wide variety of moves that help (like the double jump). The jumping physics are not as screwed up as Crash 1 and are fine for the most part.

Crash has some mad jank, that nightmare level with the barrel throwing monkeys was tough not cause the layout but the controls half the time and the perception on how far away something actually was.
Also set motion controls made it tough since moving forward required you to guess where the platform was half the time, like jumping off screen or be in mid air and still dont see the platform until the last second

People have figured out why Crash 1 is harder in the remake.

The physics have been unified across all three games so that they behave like Crash 3. The issue is in Crash 1 you could gain full momentum from a stand still on jumps. In Crash 3, you need to be running to jump to the farthest distance. This is why levels like High Road are so much harder, because you need to perfectly execute the turtle bounces in one bound. If you stop for a safety bounce, you're not moving fast enough to reach the next turtle.

After you beat Cortex in N-Sane 2, you get them now. They make going for the relics standard and (some gems in general like the boulder, night firefly, and bee levels) a lot less of a pain compared to the original.

Yeah I have them. Getting the plats haven't been hard, but trying to get a top-5 spot is insane. I held the top spot for a level in warped for a day and that was after an hour or two of tard-level progression. There's such a gap in 2 though I'm trying to figure out where those extra seconds can be cut.

You're being humble. Just because you were a kid doesn't mean that it wasn't hard, or just because you finished it as a kid doesn't mean you have the right to shit on anyone who didn't.

It was hard, and often it wasn't the good kind. It aged poorly due to being a pioneer for 3D platforming. Hitboxes and controls were weird, especially without analog sticks, you died in one hit, two hits at most, even then bottomless pits were everywhere. The perspective was one of the biggest problems in the game, because it was hard to judge were exactly you would land, obviously more so in the "true 3D" levels than the sidescrollers.

I got stuck on crash 1 so I started to play crash 2 and I'm about 30% done with it. I remember I beat up to pinestripe on crash 1 as a child so I'm not super nostalgic about it. Some of the levels in crash 1 require perfect jump and spin timing to execute its crazy.

I was in a bonus level where I had to jump over some nitro crates, and I had it happen at least 5 different times (it took me a shitload of tries to finally clear that bonus perfectly) where I landed on the edge of a nitro crate but instead of it exploding and killing me I hit the edge and slid off like a platform and lived and nothing exploded

It's actually not that bad if you just keep in mind that 1) you can spin away the shrink ray shots and 2) when you backtrack and have to jump over that high shrink ray gun you can still make it even if you killed the enemy below, just jump up and do a bodyslam and hold left, the bodyslam gives you just enough extra height to land on top of it

The death platform area is actually easier than the bonus area imo

Not only that but the anon that posted the video is correct, the 'staircase heading down' part of Stormy Ascent after the second checkpoint requires you to run+jump almost immediately, the timing is tighter than High Road or Slippery Climb, and the last staircase at the bottom requires you to be on the 3rd or 4th stair so you don't smack your head into the staircase above while making the jump over the spike. That simply wont be possible with remake physics imo, you'd have to rely on slipping through the gap between the spike/staircase.

I wouldn't blame you. I've 102%'d Crash 1 and am now on Crash 2, and quite honestly I think Crash 2 is a way better game. It's more fun to play and has way better constructed levels. Not to say Crash 1 isn't good, but it's no where near as good as 2.

Of course, if you finish Crash 1 right before you start Crash 2, Crash 2 feels like babby's first easy mode.

The biggest thing is unity engine hitbox BS. In the originals, crash's hitbox is a rectangle. In N.Sane, his hitbox is pill shaped, which makes him slide off edges if you aren't very precise.

I used the ropes as a single platform, don't try running on them they'll just fuck you. Jump on then off. Also a couple of the tortoise jumps can be made normally by jumping as crash is about to fall off the platform, reducing the bullshit that they cause.
