Yeah, 2 is better imo. Just don't play at a resolution higher than 720p (use mods) as anything higher is too zoomed out.

2 has better and more refined gameplay, 1 has a better story and does a better job at giving you a feeling for the world. Play 1 first and you'll appreciate the things that 2 does better more.

Like that one time in Fallout 1 when i first got to the Military base and activated self-destruct,these paladin dickheads were standing infront of the elevator and i was basicly stuck and lost alot of progress

Fallout 1 doesn't feel linear and you'd have to sleep for 12 hours between every encounter to actually run up against the time limit.

Fallout 2 is a great game and arguably better than the first, but the original is still worth playing. Plus the intro of 2 will turn you off it's that your first experience with the games.

I'd recommend you start with fallout 1, I prefer the story and tone of the first game though 2 improves on the gameplay in every way. The shorter time limit while kind of annoying is there for a reason and is only for the first part of the game also the time limit is mostly only important for travelling between settlements which can take days but ingame time goes by pretty slow so it's not really an issue.

I played 1 first and I was hooked after I got used to the graphics. I'd say play it just because its pretty good, and you won't want to bother with it afterwards.

I get the itch to replay 2 every so often but I remember the very start of the game and it kind of puts me off. It's not necessarily bad but just feels kinda slow and linear at the beginning. The biggest annoyance is the lack of a firearm though if you know where to look or who to kill it isn't so bad but still it's not optimal.

It's not so strange. I played Fallout 1 ~2009ish after knowing about the game since release. I loved it, started 2 immediately after finishing it, got bored shooting geckos with a pipe rifle and didn't touch it again until 2014.

With these kind of large RPGs you need to play them at the right time with the right mindset or else you're not going to stick with it.

2 is just MORE without a drop in quality. more location, more companion, more significant quest, more equipment types. and the time limit is not even a problem. There IS some late 90s references but ive never found it in bad taste.

also, if you are gonna play fallout 2, get the restoration patch from killap. it restore most of the cut content and fix some annoying bug.

FO2 rectified this with a "push" options to move NPCs. If FO1 ever got this I've forgotten but you could always just punch or shoot them out of the way and deal with the consequences later.

Everything is better than being stuck, just blow them away and hope your reputation with them isn't going down the toilet. Even if you are shit at hand-to-hand or melee just equip a sledge or fist and hammer away until they get whacked a square away from the elevator and run in before too much slaughter happens. Throwing a grenade, planting a bomb or shooting a rocket works too as it has lots of knockback.

I remember a friend who knocked out the guards with punches aimed to the head to gain access to Vault city vault early. They didn't die so I think he was okay after resting for days so they didn't turn hostile again.
