The entire point of Nier: Automata is that Taro is trying to sell his /ss/ fetish to a large audience.
A central point in the game is that you get to experience the budding relationship between 9S and 2B from both sides.
First from the perspective of 2B, who tries to keep her distance because it always ends the way it does. Then from the perspective of 9S you do the same again, while remembering the way it has to end. This significantly alters the very similar experience.

And then you're done with the prologue, and 9S catches a little nihilism and is sad that 2B died.

Kinda dumb that a lot of people were encouraged to play like this. For the most fun experience, only use hacking for enemies with tons of HP.
Personally though, I found stringing hacks together to be really satisfying because of the sound design. But yeah, it does get boring if that's all you do. Javelin throws? Now that doesn't get old.

Beat the game, buy the achievements, and call it a day son. You aren't missing much by farming weapons, and most of the sidequests blow as far as actual quest content goes, they're MMORPG tier.

You get tons of materials just fighting enemies and doing sidequests, and it isn't like 9S has his own unique set of weapons and you're gonna be fucked over by upgrading 2B's. You need to do a bit of grinding to fully upgrade EVERY weapon, but to just upgrade a couple of weapons for general use, you'd have to be incompetent to not just stumble onto the necessary materials.
