Is Zodiac Age just a port of IZJS or have they added additional features? An option to change jobs would be nice for people who never got to play IZJS, since picking jobs based on an incredibly vague description was never a good idea.

You get to choose two jobs per character and switch between them.
There's a x4 fast forward button instead of x2.
Also Vaans abs are finally fixed.

I personally would do a redmage/archer. Not super important to do though.

This combo works because you can get burning bow+ fire arrows+ oil to do some insane damage.

Not to mention casting ardor off of your burning bow on a oiled enemy to do just insane damage.

And if you stack these with that one status that ups your magic damage...you will just melt anything in the game. As long as they are not immune to fire that is.

There's not much variation in the unaltered stats. The girls are a bit more magicky and the guys a bit more muscley, it's what you would expect. Honestly what's more important is attack animations. For instance: Balthier hits faster with spears than any other character meaning he has the best DPS with them.

Base stats do not matter entirely as equipment will eventually make much more of an impact than base stats ever can.

Attack animations are more important. Penelo is great with ninja swords, fran is amazing with poles...there is a list on gamefaqs that lists these stats. might have to do some digging, but its well worth looking into.

That being said, however, attack animations do not really matter either unless you are just wanting to kill something as fast as you can. But the bosses can be handled easily in this version so it does not matter really.

Nope. Played the original version when it came out and ended up disappointed. Tried the IZJS some years later, and while it had a lot of improvements, I was still bored. FF XII is one of those games I can compliment, but just can't enjoy much.

Honestly it's my favorite FF game and I played the everloving fuck out of it on the PS2 when it came out.

I've been meaning to replay it for years now so this is a perfect opportunity to do so and an upgraded version of it at that.

On a related note I'm not really sold on the FFVII remake and I wish they remade VIII instead since that always felt like it could use a redo since it was aesthetically more "realistic" but looked a bit chumpy in low poly.

I think I read that FFVII Remake isn't the only PS1 era remake they have planned, but good luck on them doing anything beyond VII, if they ever finish it.
I would much rather have VIII remake too, but VII is still a favorite of mine.

- Quickinings and summoning uses Mist Charges instead of MP
- Turbo speed
- 16 new gambits
- Can buy all gambits as soon as you get out of the place you meet Basche.

- Magick is rearranged. A lot of spells are in different categories now.
- Two NG+ modes, one which starts you characters at level 90, one which keeps everyone at level 1 for the entire game.

- Don't have to be scared of opening pots, you can get the Zodiac Spear (multiple times, if you want) from various new methods.

I know this. I'm one of them. I don't know how you missed my obvious disdain for the game, or the fact that I said that it gets a lot of praise now because dumb, tasteless kids are nostalgic over it. Everyone will have all the same magic and technicks. If you purposely don't allow your characters these abilities, you are going out of your way to hinder yourself.

The only way that characters actually felt different was giving everyone different weapons, but so many of the weapons in vanilla 12 were just outclassed by other weapons, or have incredibly niche uses. Its more or less the same ordeal as hindering yourself to not unlock abilities if you try to make your characters use different obsolete weapons.


IZJS fixes this because it bars you from using everything, and what you can do you excel at.
Individual classes use their specific weapons with builds that cater to them so all weapons are more balanced rather than the shit show that was vanilla 12.

I love gambits, but again, why hinder yourself when you can optimize everything? You will no doubt make gambits cover all cases just for how useful they are. I do not see this as a negative though. Gambits are such an amazing system. I really wish more games used this system.

A curaga wiht a rod isn't so much more potent than it is with any melee weapon. With how low your HP is in vanilla XII, it really didn't matter. Why hinder one of your characters to heal slightly better when it means your melee damage just drops like a rock?

It is best to make all of your chatacters melee centered, while unlocking all magicks for them. It is really what the license board will lead you to do.

Also, similarly to how pointless it is to choose rods over melee weapons, the same can be said about ranged weapons. Why dedicate your generalist melee-er to a ranged option when they can just cast their magic on a flying enemy? It is just so pointless to choose anything else.

Some of these explanations may not be so great, I am not the best with explanations when tackling so many topics at once. Though if you wanna ask for a more detailed part on why Vanilla 12 was shit i can focus on that.
