Just finished MGS3 in the HD collection on Xbox, now I am gonna

Well, I just beat MGS 1 on the twin snakes on game cube. I've tried to play MGS 1 on PC before but it just felt a little archaic. It ran very well on GC and it comes with a bunch of gameplay improvements as well as general quality of life fixes.

TS is just terrible butchering:


-You start with maximum HP and ammo cap, instead of "leveling up" after each boss fight.
-the new voice acting and soundtrack suck.
-the new localization sucks ass, and is pretty much direct Jap-to-English shit now.
-The MGS2 controls and moves, in unaltered MGS1 environments and enemy placements = the game becomes piss easy. The bossfights took the biggest hit, since you can now simply snipe them with your handgun.
-The added Dogtag collecting has no purpose at all, unlike in MGS2.
-The cutscenes are way too fucking crazy, being filled with 5 meter 360 double backflips and Matrix slowmotion. Oh, and tons of added "humor", which just ruins the characters and mood.
-To be honest? The Twin Snakes also looks fugly. Everything's just gray and cyan now, ruining the cold and dark industrial mood the original has. And the 3D models look waxy.

everyone's going to tell you to emulate the PSX version and they're mostly right in doing so
it's MGS1 in MGS2's engine which results in a lot of broken boss battles, and the cutscenes in TTS are over the top even by Metal Gear standards so most people bounce off of it

I was the kinda guy who, for MGS only, watched all the movies of it on youtube, and then got around to playing it.

Twin Snakes has the wrong voice actors.
The Gamecube controller does not have enough buttons.
The M9 tranquilizer gun does not belong in MGS1.
The Twin Snakes has pretty graphics. So pretty. That is the reason we all play Metal Gear right guys? So many triangles and particle effects and colors I love the Twin Snakes almost as much as I love sucking cock.

The original PSX version of MGS still holds up extremely well. I play it like once a year and enjoy it every time

I love metal gear and I want my fiance (who doesnt play video games) to experience at least the story and I personally despise Twin Snakes.

When I played the ps1 version he says the graphics are too blocky and hes having a hard time making it out/keeping focus.

Should I grit my teeth and play Twin Snakes just so he can get the idea on the first game? I feel like I'll have a lot less explaining to do overall but man Twin Snakes is shit

Twin snakes has newer graphics, but it's worse aesthetically because the people who made it just aren't as talented as kojima's team. They also went with an exaggerated almost-parody approach that destroys the tone of the original game. It's also worse in every other way. The gameplay additions trivialize the levels that were designed for old arcade stealth.

Not saying twin snakes should be avoided, you just shouldn't play it before the original. And you shouldn't take it seriously.

OG GF was better voiced but those new action scenes with him is exactly what he needed to make him stand out as the threat he was supposed to be, especially against REX who had to work for the kill really showing off not just the exoskeleton but why his code name is "Fox"
