That's about right. Have you ever tried butchering a pig with a knife? Shit really wears on the blade. Even swords like katanas designed for cutting through armor and bone wear down surprisingly quickly.

Weapon durability should be changed to weapon maintenance. After use your weapon loses effectiveness like damage and balance, but you can maintain it using various game mechanics to keep it sharp or oiled or cleaned ect.
After maintenance, there should be a buffer where your weapon stays at peak performance for a decent period of time.
