VR is good but it's probably worth waiting for the next gen or better controllers. Vive is already looking to copy a bunch of Oculus's positives, like the rigid strap and inhand controllers.

On the game side of things, devs are still working out what they can do with a pair of motion controllers. The answer is a whole lot.

The new No Heroes Allowed game is going to be VR exclusive. But I don't think VR has enough actual games to make it a worthy investment. All of it is tech demos and shitty Wii shovelware games.

I never appreciated motion control on the Wii because they only used it for gimmicky shit where you should've had normal controls but I love motion control and the touch screen on my PS4 controller for text input and stuff. Likewise DS got good when the 2nd screen was used for inventory and stuff but atrocious for gimmick games like Yoshi's Island or that Kirby drawing game.

So I think VR might be cool someday but it's probably going to be real games that just use it to give games a more immersive perspective but with normal controls and a few motion controls for little things. Honestly AR is probably a cooler gimmick but it's way less popular than any kind of VR.

This is me. Literally me. No other character can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This character could not possibly be anymore me. VR should have never been marketed as anything but a new platform to experience games on. There is nothing wrong with playing a game using a controller or KB+M on a VR headset, yet every single fucking VR game seems to be afraid of allowing the player to move freely and instead makes you sit in one spot or teleport around.

VR is great and I use my Vive almost daily, but it still needs something.

It's the same as 3D was in the early years, you need experimentation and failures to advance the 'rules' and learn how things should be done. I don't think every game in a few years is still going to be using the janky teleportation movement as it is now.

How about a game where you play somebody in a wheelchair.

You're seated and move yourself by gripping the wheels on your sides and basically have everything in arm's reach.

VR is the future.

HTC Vive Owner here, I play my Vive maybe once a week or so. If you want it for an arcade like novelty and a bunch of amusing but ultimately gimmicky software you'll be happy with it.

The problem with VR for one thing that the resolution is still too low on the headset, sometimes things just look kinda crappy. The plus side is when you get immersed it's mesmerizing.

I would not encourage anyone to buy a Vive now because it's clear Valve is going to release the Knuckle controllers very soon, those things will make VR a lot more fun as you can start grabbing stuff instead of relying on an N64 Z-Button to simulate gripping.

Favorite games are Onward, Hotdogs, Horseshoes and Handgrenades, Punch-Bomb, and next week Gorn will get its Early Access release, the first game with good melee combat.
