Has anybody played this game?
I had this gifted from my friend for a long time but just gave it a shot recently

Holy fuck it's retard amazing, I played it with 0 expectations and even felt a little bored early on, but I feel like it's one of the best games I've played recently

Is their prequel good?

It's pretty cool for the first few hours when you can actually explore places

then you realize it's an incredibly fucking boring and shallow grind simulator
>>
I bought it on sale a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised with the world-building and such, and it was a nice change of pace from playing action-y games. That said, I do think the busywork outside of reading text ashore is pretty dull and felt like padding, and I'd find it hard to recommend it to most people I know because of it. The devs have apparently taken notes for the sequel, but I can't help feel it might have worked better as a horror-themed Oregon Trail type thing, especially since their established audience was already comfortable with text adventures.

>>

A forger once asked me the same question.

Nothing but canvas

All the paint is lifted away now, and there is only the cloth itself, just as he said. Woven into the canvas is a final sigil of the Correspondence. It means "hurtling forever toward the earth." That is all.
>>
>>382588516
They can't - the sun is a Judgement, a God. London lies in the Neath, which is like a hidey-hole in the Earth that Judgements can't see into. Hidden there is the Mountain of Light, which is the sun's daughter (and illegal). As the Neath is bathed in the Mountain's light, which has the effect of (amongst other things) making death much harder to achieve, everything in it is "tainted" with this illegal light. If you go back up to the surface where the sun can see you, you risk getting killed by the sun to ensure none of the other Judgements finds out about its illegal daughter. Moving the whole city would be suicide, not to mention the fact that it's technically down there because it's been sold.
>>
>>382588160
They should have ditched permadeath and kept the drifting islands mechanic so suddenly your map would be wrong from time to time.
>>
>>382588516
afaik, after you've died in the undersea you cannot escape
you do not die ONLY because there is no sun = no divine retribution/judgment

if you go up, the sun(god) will kill you because you don't belong to the world

you can however escape by eating a rare fruit (the golden apple) though

There are more interesting places further out. I personally will enjoy Irem. It's a place that had sold secrets while also having a safe place to relaxed after a zail around the zee.

i explored most of the map and kind of lost interest in going back and forth. especially once you get to the point where you can't submit ship reports anymore?? they really needed to ease up on how 'hardcore' the game was trying to be. just looking at the prices for the better ships in the game makes my eyes water thinking about how many fucking voyages i would have to make using the boxed light strategy. it just isn't feasible and it's too slow.

great worldbuilding, but it is a deeply flawed game
>>
>>382592653
Subtle.
>>
>>382591504
'll try to be as spoiler free as possible.

Snufflers are the sons of the daughter of the sun and an unknown eldritch horror that was able to shape-shift.

The mountain of light emanates vitality and HATES inanimate objects, so her blood destroy anything that isn't alive and makes living beings "more alive", which is what happened to your crew. (Imagine all the bones and organs of your body suddenly growing at different rates)

People are assholes

It is mostly a mistery, but we know it is full of jungles and ancient cities.

The world does not have a normal structure. Hell is in the West, the Elder Cont in the south, the realm of Salt in the east (A place described as a sun beneath the sea, filled with snowy mountains, scent of pine and trees that touch the moon) and finally, the North leads to deep space.
>>
>>382592785
By world I mean the giant cavern the game is set. The world is just your regular planet.
>>
>>382592785
The eastern region sound cool as fuck, do they go more into detail anywhere else? Any art?

So its entirely possible for a non-ship but land game
>>
>>382581184
SS is the only game I would recommend for the quality of text alone.

But ship speed modding is essential to avoid tedium, and perhaps some modding of the fuel and supplies mechanics later once you know the ways to restock them easily.

It has some nice art along the way, but a lot of it is still text, and about the Zee? a Good chunk but let's say about 40%? maybe more? a few dare go deeper, but they dont alway return sane
>>
Not SS related but how the fuck do I start the labyrinth of tigers line? I've opened the path with a mountain of dead rats but it seems like there is only a game of chance for low reward.
>>
Should I get the DLC with the game or is it not really needed?

Do I need full focus playing this?
>>
Should I just edit my save to have infinite money so I can go exploring in the biggest ship with lots of fuel and experience shit without the terrible ship combat?
>>
>>382595929
Get the DLC later, it's hard as balls compared to the normal one and doesn't really add much early on.

>>382595136
Are you PoSI? I THINK you need to be one, but don't quote me on that.

>Fallen London
>so much lore locked behind a boring as shit pay-to-win browser game
I'll never not be mad.
>>
>>382596227
>you have to pay for your Daughter story line
Im actually still fucking mad about that one
>>
>>382596007
What am I, your dad? Do whatever the fuck you want
>>
>>382596368
But will it ruin it at all?
>>
>>382596516
If it's your first run, go vanilla, as you should with any game
After that is your choice
>>
>>382596227
It's really fun if you get into it. Waiting for actions to refresh is a pain, I'll admit.
>>
>>382596696
It isn't my first run but I basically gave up after like 7 captains. I love all the lore and shit but the combat isn't exactly well done and I never had money because my boat didn't have enough storage to make profit off of trade routes to pay for a bigger boat.
>>
>>382596743
How am I supposed to play it properly? It's just one of those overdone interfaces imo
>>
>>382596954

by finding blogs and tumblrs that post the stories from there

it might not be so bad at first but later on you'll be lucky if you see one new paragraph for each day's worth of actions
>>
>>382596954
I gotta say, I don't exactly know what you mean here. Are you just in over your head in regards to choices?
>>
>>382597290
There's just too much shit to do, I don't even know where to start, and when I think I've figured something out there's a warning saying that this decision will lock me into a month-long storyline.
>>
>>382596893
>a bigger boat

honestly the starter boat is one of the most effecient until you can buy the cargo barge, and even then the fucker is slow as shit and demands immense consistent cargo to pay for all the fuel you will burn sailing her

instead of a boat, make getting a house with a collection you can pass on once you die a priority
>>
>>382597402
It can be a little overwhelming, Just pick one of the places mentioned in the beginning like Veilgarden and do a few stories there, you'll get the hang of it. Don't worry about destinies.
>>
>>382588516
Stars are gods.
Light is the expression of their will.
Things touched by the light must obey the rules set out by the star who emanates the light.
Physics, biology, science, mortality - all the laws of nature as we know them work as we know them on the surface because that is the will of our sun.
To return above would force people to be subject to the laws of nature again, and after adapting to the Neath and its supernatural rules, most of them wouldn't be able to exist there.
>>
>>382597852
Okay, I'll do my best!
>>
>>382598362
Good luck, nigga.
>>
>>382596315
Your Daughter is one of the worst stories ever though in FL. Paying for it keeps people from experiencing the shit.
>>
>all the reviews for Fallen London mobile app say the app barely works and doesn't remember your progress

Can anyone confirm?

>don't play the game

Keep dropping tasty lore tidbits, I am ravenous.

Sorry my delicious friend, but we could spend entire threads just to discussing the lore, from urchins to Zailors, From masters to devils, too much to choose from even the starveling cat
Give it a go, Make your own donut steel Character and enjoy the wonders of this new land, just remember dont stare into mirrors, dont ever be rude around people and Death is just an inconvenience
>>
>>382598362
What's your profile? I'll add you, might be able to help you if you need it.
>>
>>382598465
Why, what's so bad about it?

>>382598629
Sort of. I've not used it in a few months but the app is hilariously broken and can be used to reset progress after some bad rolls. You have to make it do that, however, so it normally does remember your progress if you sync.
>>
>>382581184
can you explain why it's good? I kinda want to buy it, but I have a short attention span lately with games(slowly becoming a normalfag in an attempt to fix my life) so i'm on the fence with it. I guess I could refund it, but i feel like 2 hours probably isnt enough for a game like this.
>>
>>382599541
Basically the same, but I just don't have time right now for hours of grinding. I'd just like to enjoy the storytelling and the vaguely unsettling spookyness.
>>
>>382599541
it is very slow, it probably won't hold your attention. The real draw of the game is the excellent little stories you encounter on each island and the text-based adventures you wind through
>>
>>382599541
Writing.
>Short attention span
Needs a while to get going on some storylines, grind is involved. Game's a slow burn.

I fucking love items like "Extraordinary Implication"
It's such a neat way of showing that your character has realized something you could probably never understand, and I wish I knew what some of them were.

I'd vote for the Corvette being better, but shit is mad pricey.

I don't think so, however. Some work for the Cheesemonger in Fallen London offers minor tidbits, but on the whole it's not widely explored.

Did they fixed the retard grindy early game?
>>
>>382604738

No, it's just like it. FL is even worse when it gets to midgame.
