The reason they picked FE1/FE13/FE14 to compose the majority of the cast is because those games featured large casts of characters in a wider variety of classes when compared to other games in the series, which is true since only FE6 features the same level of class/character diversity those games do. The reason they probably didn't go with adding in too many FE6 characters is because FE6 hasn't been released in the west.

So the mercenary line IS represented and for some reason Laguz are bloat? Laguz in particular would be great simply because they'd add tons of variety to the game. FE9 and 10 even had the soldier line.

Despite that, it also showed plenty of variety on the top 20, showing that the rest of the series was not forgotten. Xander and Ryoma had shitty rankings and yet they are the poster boys after Chrom and Marth.

The top 20 was dominated by Awakening, Fates, and lord characters. The few exceptions to that rule were also pretty much the only characters from those games who were popular, as the further down the list you go (where you'd need to go to get more characters from the other classes in the series considering Xander is the most popular paladin in the series) the more and more obvious that became.

Even then, with how the poll was set up and what behind the scenes information IS has access to, for all we know some of those characters being as high as they were could be the result of people spamming votes for them, like how Donnel and Dorcas got so high, instead of them actually getting lots of individual votes.
