So far it has been rather bittersweet.
The good:
I discovered a lot of great games this year, though not all of them were released this year.
>Prey was awesome. Really, really damn great.
>I discovered Factorio, one of the best games I played in years, and it got a fantastic update this year shortly after I got into it.
>Nier, Nioh, Breath of Wild, Persona 5 - while being on a platform I don't own were all pretty good, both judging from the reception and from what I played of them on my friends rig.
I might consider consoles in large to be a cancer, but only due to the platform problems: good games deserve to be praised regardless of cancerous hardware. And seeing quite a few solid bold steps is always pleasant.

Which I think has much more bad implications than most people realize. Hitman was officially concluded to be a failure. While it's nice to see I.O. being free of Squares marketing and business insanity, I can't be very happy about people losing jobs and future of the franchise uncertain.

Well, Hollow Knight was fucking amazing.
