It's the most friendly because the gameplay UI has greatly improved. It's your first persona game, so I would say you should play 3 and 4 first simply because many find it difficult/impossible to play them after playing the latest entry in the series (because of the quality of life improvements and UI).

Regardless, the main tips stay the same. Fuse OFTEN, the game is always hardest at the start, social links are a priority (even for characters you don't care about).

There's different type of personas. Some have weaknesses. There's a button R1 that automatically checks your personas that you have equipped and take you to the move that can down the enemy.

You'll be fine. Persona games aren't connected to one another, though there are some references you won't fully appreciate.

The biggest hurdle you'll likely have is remembering what the fuck all the spells and items are. For whatever reason, Persona doesn't just call things Fire, Ice, etc., instead ice is Bufu, fire is Agi, wind is Garu, lightning is Zio, darkness/curse is Mudo and light/holy is Hama.

I'll have to check them out eventually. Even though I beat P5, I want to platinum the game, so I've got another long playthrough ahead of me because I didn't max out the social links. I'm most familiar with P4 because I have a few friends that were super into it at the time of release. Think I'm most looking forward to P5A though.

That's pretty typical, yeah. Everyone has a favourite, of course.

The only real difference between the latest 3 Persona games is the theme/message of each one and the overall tone of the story. Everything else is essentially the same aside from quality of life improvements.
It's fairly safe to say you'll enjoy them all, but you're going to have a favourite. Spin offs are either love or hate, I haven't seen a middle ground yet.

you'll be confused by some references to 3 and 4 but they're like, small cameos you can check out on a TV or something, nothing actually relevant to the story.

I'd say go for it if you're interested but if 3 or 4 interest you at all you should play them first because goddamn the improvements from 3 to 4 make 3 borderline unplayable afterwards and from 4 to 5 is just as bad. Maybe not so much with 4Golden since it was where a lot of the improvements in 5 started to get implemented but still.

P5 is probably the easiest game in the series and it's really quick to get into even if you've never played a Persona game before

with that said you might have a hard time going back to older games in the series if you start out with 5 because everything that came before it will feel clunky
