This gale was absolute shit it was way worse than dqh 1, too much unnecessary farming, bosses were huge hp tanks, the endgame was a slogfest of bossfights, and lvl grinding was mabdatory due to how frustratingly bad the difficulty curve was, the game was okay visually though

4, 5, and 7 are the next best in line. Depending on how old you are or what you value in games one of those may beat out 8 for you but odds are against that. 8's a damn fine game and the most accessible (I mean this as a positive. It sacrifices little in achieving this) of the franchise.

7 is my personal favorite. Runs a bit long but the dungeons are great.

Maybe I just outgrew the generic 90s turn based combat that some RPGs haven't grown past. Others have either gone full action, or added in movement phases for tactics, or other things that make them better. But after watching gameplay of the combat in the new DQ I was pretty disgusted to be fully honest. I know DQH is just a spin off that's basically taken the same gameplay that the "warriors" games used, but they expanded it and made it work well. And honestly not many bosses or enemies were damage sponges, but there was a fair bit of grinding to be done in some parts.

DQ7 is my favorite in the series. But I'm a storyfag. And DQ7 goes to places you hardly ever really see. It's the ultimate bittersweet game that I loved back on the PSX and loved it even more on 3DS.

With the crutches you described at your disposal, well that's like playing with savestates, basically. Guilt-free savestates, I guess, since it doesn't seem you're using them. But you are, and so you'll never know what the true, original, developer intended experience of the source game you're "playing" is like. And at your own expense, you're the one who won't get to enjoy the feeling of, say, suspense, among others. Without that one element alone, yeah of course random battles become tedious and boring and mundane. There's no danger to them.

4 to 6 are a trilogy. While they're not directly related (Most of the shared elements are just lore), I think they're still best played in order.
7 and 8 are not related to any other game, you can play them in any order.
9 is not related to any other game, but it has a lot of fanservice to the previous games, so it might be best kept for last.
Worst to best is hard to say. 6 is definitely the least popular, the rest is really subjective. 4, 5 and 8 are all popular. 7 and 9 are both "love it or hate it" games.

I don't know about you but 7 was so fucking boring I lost interest in the game. It was two fucking hours before the first fight. Two hours of running around doing nothing. Running from one side of the map to the other for one line of dialog before running back for one more line. Holy hell who thought that was a good idea? Well it's one of the best selling PSX of all time (helps it came out at the end of the PSX).

PSX version had weird shit like riddles and the dungeon to the plates had puzzles to them.

The opening is meant to give you a feeling of a world without problems. Just going on a childish adventure on a isolated island and after you really feel nothing wrong is there you are attacked my monsters. Some hate it some like it. It's not meant to be there to give you info it's meant to give you a weird sense of calmness.
