9S is killing my enjoyment of the game. I just started my second playthrough and have loved it up until now. I can't stand his combos, regardless of the weapon. I figured it would at least be somewhat different since the opening of part 2 offered a different prospective, but at the resistance camp I'm doing the exact same quests I did before. Do I really have to play through the entire same game again with this stupid faggot? And am I going to have to redo every quest I already did? Any tips on playing as 9S would be appreciated
>>
>>382514117
Yes, you have to play the entire game again up until the giant komodo boss. If you want a fun time, use a spear, the hold square move is pretty fun for impaling enemies.
>>
>>382515082
I tried it and it'll have to do, I guess. It's better than his sword combos. It's a damn shame that he can't use a second weapon. The hacking thing is kind of lame

hacking demolishes bosses. The main quests are easy to speed through, and combat's what you make of it.
>>
>>382514117
I played the game for 9S and now that I'm playing as him, I still can't find the motivation to continue. I find the game way too boring
>>
>>382515315
2nd playthrough is literally all hacking so get used to it. Makes boss fights easy, but regular swarms are a pain in the dick.

Honestly, 9s gameplay is pretty trash. Easily the worst part of N:A
>>
>>382515495
How do you do that thing where he zips towards them in the air?

If you are shit maybe. 9S has all the tools to easily fight every enemy encounter without hacking.
>>
>yeah it's a boring game b-b-b-b-b-but
Oh fuck off
>>
>>382516113
What are you even talking about?
>>
>>382514117

I find having a light sword in slot 1 and a spear in slot 2 to be pretty effective, since like others said the spear can be thrown, and also it has some decent reach and a good aoe knockup

Also note that you can hold down R2 and while held, it toggles heavy attacks. Get used to switching between your two weapons and remember the heavy hits and he is a lot more fun.

I think it is kind of dumb they relegated Hacking to the heavy hit button and made his combat clunkier, but I still chop things up
>>
>>382515978
it's a pod program. You get it for completing the Amnesia sidequest, which you can find inside that tall building you descended to the city runs.
>>
>>382514117
2nd playthrough is signifigantly different than first. You do not play every quest again, there are quite a few new quests and any side quest you compleated you do not have to repeat.

Hacking is boring against low level mooks but becomes signifigantly funner against bosses etc. By the end, the hacking premice really opens up into a meaningful component of the game along with some fucktastic easter eggs depending whom you hack.
>>
>>382516410
Is it a quest that you do during the 9S playthrough? I didn't know where the "point of no return" was during my first, so I did miss a few quests, but I did a lot of them

>>382516538
I honestly guess I was too quick to judge. He felt inferior to 2B in every way and it made me dread thinking about the playthrough. I'll give him an honest shot and try to play his way, and not like 2B
>>
>>382514117
If anything the 2nd playthrough was refreshing for me as I didn't have to bother with all the tedious sidequests that I had already completed with 2B. Can blaze through the main quests pretty quickly, and things will be different.
>>
How do I play without the skirt?
>>
I took a loooong break because I didn't like playing as 9S at first but I warmed up to it after a while
Learning to appreciate the digitized soundtrack made me grow to like the hacking gameplay a lot more

I still don't know how to hack enemies and make them my allies though, they're always fucking aware

Light attack+jump is your best friend with 9S. His moveset is actually really good. By the end of the game I found myself enjoying his combat more than 2B's, he felt much quicker and more fluid.
>>
>>382514117
Suck it up, hack everything. The 9S campaign is really short if you just beeline it. Stop being a whiny bitch.
>>
>>382520478
YOu have to go to the Yorha HQ and press both sticks at the same time.
>>
i hate when people say nier's combat is boring when they just keep the first sword and never use another weapon or a pod program that isn't laser
i'm pretty sure the purpose of how they implemented weapons and pod programs were supposed to be so you can get creative and be intuitive with your abilities
>>
9S is a phaggot, but becomes a lot more enjoyable as a character in the 3rd route.

>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>382521236
I don't think the gameplay is boring. 9S just felt really off, which I realized was because I was trying to play exactly like I did as 2B
>>
>>382514117
Dude, continue on. I can get you not enjoying him, but some interesting shit happens during the part where the EMP separates you two. Plus it's shorted than route A, so you'll be done sooner.

Also if you don't like him then you'll really want to get to route C. Shit happens to the little fucker.
>>
>>382521236
>going to d-pad to change weapons/pods mid-combo
>intuitive
>>
>>382521236

Because there is no reason too. The game is way too easy and doesn't reward flashy play in any way.
>>
>>382515495

I'll never understand the hate for 9S, he's fun as hell and controlling machines is fun.
>>
>>382521968

>>
>>382521980

Play on V. hard then, where juggling becomes essential.
>>
>>382515315
I found his Greatsword to be pretty decent. Most of his attacks are slow as fuck, at least the Greatsword dealt a huge chunk of damage.
>>
>>382521236
Meh, I don't think the combat is boring but at the same time I don't feel like you really need anything but some simple button mashing to get through the game.
Likewise I don't feel that the pod upgrades and the different tiers/costs of plug in chips serve much purpose. There's little reason to grind for them.
If you really enjoy the combat and like to dick around in the arena on hard modes then some depth is cool of course.
>>
>>382520478
Turn counter clockwise seven times, switch to third gear, quickly accelerate to 60mph, shift to neutral, then honk your horn three times. It should unlock the hidden skirtless mode.

>Actually trying to combo with 9S

Stop being retarded, change your sword to the melee fist weapon, hack your enemies and use your weapon as a finisher.

The kid isn't built to fight like 2B, he even explicitly stated this so why people still choose to play him like 2B idiotic.

I thought this would be obvious to anyone who was paying attention.
>>
>>382515315
Hacking becomes cool once you get past the flooded city area again

The only consolation, for me, was that I completed all of the Route A side missions, so I could just blaze through B
>>
>>382521968
Considering your thumb doesn't need to be on the analog stick mid-combo because you're attacking and the game has no directional input attacks, yeah, I'd say it works pretty well.
>>
>>382523184
the DLC boss hacks are something else
>>
>>382516881
You'll wish to go back to 2B only to find out when you actually can via chapter select, nothing was scaled so she one-shots everything and it's incredibly boring so you stick with A2 instead I guess
>>
>>382523404

actually that's only what he was told. In truth his combat specs are off the charts.
>>
>>382523472
there's a save editor tool that changes your xp. It's pretty neat for all those times you think you're overlevelled.

>>382523709
not worth it for story, only as a final challenge. You get level 130 enemies, weird hacking games (you fight on globes, cylinders), arenas where you choose robots to control.

>single level 4 Demon's Cry throw explodes entire fucking horde of enemies because of its special ability and ridiculous DPS on throw move
>spear throw is arguably the most powerful move in the entire game, pretty much a pod program with no cooldown, becomes gamebreaking with spear of the usurper as anything surviving the throw usually gets mind controlled and you can use self-destruct button to blow up any mind-controlled foe instead of yourself
>heavy small sword combo, while slower than 2B's, is a massive multihit able to exploit crit weapons well
>his large swords are actually usable aside from running throw move because he has ridiculous range on them
>hacking needs a few low-cost chips to become an ultimate damage and crowd control option, another powerful tool of hacking is that it never stops pod program cooldowns so you can do shit like triple wave -> hack -> triple blade on survivors
>taunts also work with hacking for sweet 400% damage for a small minigame which is usually enough to ruin anything
>has other fun mechanics like enemy hijack so you can move around without being attacked if you don't want to fight
9S is loads of fun. He's way stronger than 2B in virtually any situation, and only surpassed in terms of DPS by b-mode A2. Sheer amount of his unique mechanics is more than enough to compensate lack of second weapon.
>>
>coolest hack happens when you hack A2 4 times in the final battle
>by that point you're so overpowered she dies before you get to it
>>
>>382519747
Try upgrading and using the Spear of the Usurper. No need to sneak up, just slam enemies with a chance to make some your ally. Though I find it easier to sneak up on Goliath machines rather than the little guys if you want to subjugate via hacking.

I just got this on the summer sale, do I need to know anything about the previous games to understand this one?
>>
>>382526580
The story can stand on its own, but you miss tons of shit and generally get a worse experience for having not played the original.
>>
>>382526580
No. And don't listen to people who say to watch Clemp's series on Nier/Drakengard. They're good videos, but the only thing you'll miss in Automata if you don't know the previous games are some impact from sidequests, namely Emil, and very minor throwbacks/references. Keep yourself unspoiled for Nier 1 so you can play it one day fresh.
>>
>>382523170

Except he's canonically a top tier combat model. In one of the side materials he beats 2B in straight up combat and in ending D he draws with A2 in beserk mode.
>>
>>382526783
Plenty of things in Automata will spoil the first game. The Gestalt Reports, Devola and Popola's backstory, and the very presence of Emil. I can't understand anybody who'd play a game knowing they're going to miss the impact of multiple sidequests, characters, and references just because they aren't technically core to the story.
>>
>>382527303
If I had a PS3 I'd play it, but since I don't feel like buying a whole new (old) console for a single game, I left it alone.
>>
>>382527303

Automata stands on it's own. Nothing in the game requires knowledge of Nier, except for Emil's sidequests, and since the characters themselves are clueless to it's significance, there is an advantage to being able to relate to the character's perspective and not have dramatic irony up the ass.

And everything that relates to Automata that's in Nier is explained in game. 9S learns about project Gestalt and Devola and Poppola and the player learns with him. It's not like playing Nier before hand is a better experience, it's just different.
>>
>>382527509
Missing out on multiple things intended specifically to appeal to or even tug at the heartstrings of people who've played the first game means you're getting a worse experience. The very fact that playing Automata first spoils Nier means playing Automata and then Nier is a worse experience than playing Nier and then Automata because one of the games isn't ruined or at least damaged in the process.
>>
>>382528065
Nothing that really matters in Nier is spoiled. Nothing about Nier himself, Yonah, Kaine or how they struggle is referenced in Automata beyond very, very minor things like a weapon story. You see Emil looks different in Gestalt and in Automata but the reason why and the emotional impact of that change remains unspoilt.

Automata is also crafted for people who didn't play Nier and you miss out on some of the suspense if you have. Stuff like the fate of humanity or the mystery behind the twins is different, not worse, if you don't already know what happened in the past.
>>
>>382529363
Emil's presumed death and later reveal that he's alright is spoiled because you know he's going to be fine. The fact that Devola and Popola are androids who watch over replicants is spoiled. You can give me that tripe that only come characters actually ~matter~ and spoiling story twists doesn't count because it isn't directly related to a character struggle, but not even being able to trust Devola and Popola is significant.

Automata isn't ruined by not playing Nier, but you miss out on stuff. The main plot was crafted to stand on its own, but there are ALSO things crafted specifically for people who played Nier, and whether you think it matters or not, that's absent if you play the sequel first. That's all I'm saying. Whether or not you care that things in a sequel are flying over your head is up to you.
>>
I think the decision to make combat hacking limited to self destruct is a shitty move.

>>

>>382530283
