Speedrunning and its popularity is nothing but glamorizing and glorifying man-child addictions, which most of the time is fueled by autism or other mental disorders/special needs. Its just showing off their memorization and muscle memory skills, for a game they played thousands of times. If you see that as anything besides beyond pathetic, you should get diagnosed

The VAST majority of speedrunners have never, and will never, find even a single worthwhile glitch.

All of the skill in running comes from routing, which is usually a collaborative effort at best, and entirely theorycrafting. The people you see, playing a game day in, day out, have no skill. They've taken someone else's route, and will grind it out for 5000 hours until all the planets align and they shave 20 seconds off the record. It's ironic that in speedrunning, the people who have the most fame are actually the least skilled of all, anyone can grind a run for eternity, only spergs are actually capable of doing it without killing themselves though.

TAS is where every true speedrunner eventually winds up. Rather than thinking about the "perfect RNG", they create it artificially, and attempt to find a perfect route through a game with deep analysis. But even that will die eventually, there are already programs that will bruteforce a screen with 80 billion inputs to save half a frame and find completely new tricks because of it.

I did a run which I had to route myself entirely since it hadn't been run before (and hasn't been run since to my knowledge).

I basically just looked and asked around for whatever glitches had already been found, and then did some of my own research looking for common glitches. One game-breaking glitch was already known. I myself found ways to use physics to get a boost, or confuse the game by pushing buttons quickly.

The actual recording is a lot of muscle memory, trial and error, and luck. There was little skill required for my run, but some games like Starcraft probably require a higher bar of basic skill.

Only time I did it was Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for the gamecube, I loved the game and played it a shitton, eventually I was breaking my own records and shit, one day I found out I beat the best record in youtube for about 20 seconds, sadly I was never able to record it and even if I bought the game for Steam I don't think I'd be able to repeat the feat.

There's an insane difference between what you're doing and what everyone else is doing. People play games for many different reasons. For the challenge, for the story, for social interaction, whatever.

There is an ingenuity and very specific skill that goes into looking for glitches and then recognizing that they can then be tested and used for furthering runs. I remember that even before I hear what speedrunning was, my dad my brother and me would sit down and try to complete resident evil games as fast as we could.

I also remember being so proud of being able to beat the RE4 in under 2 hours and being faster than my dad and brother that i looked up RE4 time record online and saw some shit that said it was like 30 minutes or something.

I watched the video and saw that just some autismo glitching the game to skip shit, that's not speedrunning, you're just glitching the fucking game, speedrunning to me is the way we do it, learn enemy patterns and spawn points, kill the shit that needs killing, memorize puzzles to solve as fast as possible, we didn't glitch the game we learned it and beat it with just skill.

Sports are actually worse. You can't learn interesting technical quirks that improve or educate on the enjoyment of a game like you can in speedrunning. Traditional sports has a ruleset. Causing a technical quirk causes a penalty and interruption of the enjoyment, unless it's not your team and you're a raging bandwagon faggot.

My interest in speedrunning nosedives when it stops teaching me something about the game, but before that point, it's hardly autistic to be interested in them.

I speedran exactly once. Fucking around I made it to like 26th, which made me realize if I tried I could probably get to the top. After going at it for like three days, this was as close as I got, and I enjoyed it for the incredibly short amount of time it took for me to get bumped down a million spots by the 50 or so people who had times of 1:36:xx
