The AR is actually very solid in this game. I never got the meme with it being shitty. It isn't the best weapon the pistol is. That is common knowledge. The AR combined with the Pistol will easily get you through most of this game.

Halo CE has much better weapon balance than 2 or 3 did.

Grunts and jackals are easier to kill with the pistol, and plasma weapons are more efficient either way due to how common they are. Shotgun is really not that hard to get ammo for after meeting the flood, don't know what you're talking about. Pistol is more effective against them anyway, especially if you aim for the limbs, and a plasma weapon can do the job just as well.

You must not play on legendary at all... The pistol has really limited ammo in late game. Everyone knows CE's pistol is the best weapon in the game. And everyone uses the shotgun as a sniper. Anything besides shotgun/pistol or noob combo is pointless. But you can't always get ammo for those. I think maximum on "the library" there's 36 or 40 rounds for the shotgun. And that's the most flood intense level. The pistol gets 72 and there's many AR's scattered around. Sometimes you get "lucky" and a lot of shotgun flood spawn but that's rare, it's far more biased towards AR and plasma pistol on legendary.

I can careless how good a game story is in ODST's case the writing was shit, The story happens when Dare calls the Rookie the rest is just tagged on shit. I can care less about the atmosphere because in terms of gameplay ODST is boring and that's where a game needs to be strong at if it wants me to like it, I can care less about the music, no matter how good it is, it doesn't make the game the best in the series, I have Halo 3 for mp making ODST worthless. ODST was just a waste of money for an expansion and Horde along with Nazi Zombie shit on Firefight, Bungie tried to rip off better modes and failed.

With Reach it didn't matter how much content it had because the only thing good in that piece of shit was Forge the armor customization and Invasion and that's it, it also look like a bland pile of trash because it double down on ODST's film grain, desaturated the color, and added a cheap motion blur. It also fucked up Halo 3's snow, sand, water, and explosion effects. Reach was shit and makes me wish Microsoft weren't money hungry idiots and just let Halo have a 5 year break while Bungie worked on their new ip.
