I am so burnt out of Sun and Moon, this is pretty much all I played for the first half of 2017, I have more than 200 hours in Sun and replayed Moon 3 times to get multiple copies of Legendaries (and soft reset thousand times to get them with good Nature and IV)
I created my Living Dex AGAIN for Gen VII from scratch, I filmed every single damn Pokemon with the Poke Finder, I collected all the damn Pokemon with Hidden Abilities for the second time (all females if possible) got the Festival Plaza to level 100, bought every single clothing, completed an item dex and did every single damn other thing that comes to mind (besides beating the Battle Tree 100 and 200 streak challenge, fuck the Battle Tree)

MegaTen was always the more serious series with elements of humor sprinkled in, with harder gameplay and more involved themes exploring morality, ideology, and psychological issues.
Pokemon was just that fun little E-rated series with smooth looking RPG monsters and a mario-tier plot premise, but I enjoy it all the same.

At least B2W2 tried to seem different compared to other Third Versions with the Sequel novelty and giving Unova more variety in Pokemon and entirely new locations.
USUM just seems like it'll take the Emerald/Platinum approach and be 95% similar to SM aside from different dialogue, Necrozma showing up at the climax of the story and a Move Tutor at the Battle Tree.
Oh, and a gorillion Ultra Wormholes scattered across Alola so you can capture all 30-something Legendaries in order to obtain them with the Generation 7 Marking so they're VGC Legal.

I played basic moon, and it just wasn't that fun. Plot was on the same level as past games, but there's two or three times as much of it.

The first video game I remember playing was Red Version. I was 4 years-old. I'm 23 now and have been playing Pokemon ever since then. I've played, owned, and beaten every main-series game at some point, except Sun and Moon. I lost interest by the time I got to the second island. They just weren't good games, which is saying something because Pokemon as a series was never that great to begin with.

Platinum as a single game, HGSS as remakes, and Gen 5 (particularly B2W2) were the last good games. Emerald is up there, too. They're easy, hand-holdy shit now. Sure, I'm older now and my tastes have changed, but when there's literally, easily Google-able quotes from the makers of the games saying they make the games shorter now because kids don't have the attention span for long games, and they make them easier because kids and kid's parents complain the games are too hard, you can't argue with me.

In as many ways as SMT is "Pokemon advanced", it's a series with much darker undertones and nicely challenging gameplay specifically designed to keep you on edge.
Pokemon isn't looking to require that degree of investment, rather to provide a basic storyline and simplistic design to accommodate being plain fun and comfy as fuck.
They're both good in their own ways.
