I realized it was the chick you see when you collect three of them, but the color of the hair, the jagged countour and the 2-dimensionality of it made it look wooden.

I jumped in to Crash at 2, I never played the first one until years later and it was pretty obviously Tawna. I can't even see how someone can see something else.
