Depends on roleplay but for my part either Raul, Boone, or Rose of Sharon Cassidy. Cassidy is the one who comes closest to Ulysses' original role and the base game is definitely weaker for not having it.

Probably one of my favorite characters in the series since he was the prototype desert ranger. Meeting the rangers in New Vegas and then going back to him really gives you the feeling that he's a much bigger badass than he lets on.

Long as fuck, I warn you. It did keep me engaged enough to read tirelessly, though. The story makes some interesting choices, such as using three Vault Dwellers instead of one. The three default Vault Dwellers you can choose from at the beginning of the game to be exact. They are all fleshed out characters with their own story arc and you really get to like them. Stone does get the short end of the stick in characterization, but still, great story.

It's like they don't know how to say their lines with the proper inflection. "Don't make any sudden moves, hey?" should be said "Don't make any sudden moves, eh?" But Matthew Perry fucked it up by doing a Matthew Perry voice instead of a 1950s loanshark voice. The general at the end is awful too, for that matter. For whatever reason he had the one black voice in the game, and he didn't have the Churchill vibe he should've had at all. The voice acting in that game is a mess in general, and the DLCs are clearly the only places where any time could be allocated to it at all considering the mediocre job Laura Bailey does for the base game, and the fantastic performance she puts out for Christine and Vera Keyes in Dead Money.

I just installed Fallout 1 and it's the first time I'm ever playing it. I checked out the manual and it instantly brought me back to a time when games came in packages with useful booklets. Now we get pussy environmentalist packages that easily shatter, and a single page insert with a controller diagram.

I'm already enjoying this game and I haven't even loaded a new game.

There's not a lot of overlap between "People that like 3" and "People that like NV"
Fallout 3 and 4 (and I guess Fallout Shelter too, if you like mobile games) are Bethesda-style.
Fallout 1, 2, NV, and Tactics to a lesser extent are all Black Isle-style.
Personally I vastly prefer Black Isle-style but you do you. Maybe try NV first so you know what classic Fallout is like, then try 3 and see if you prefer it.

Yeah, I think Vic is a lot more damaging with being able to start off with a Hunting Rifle into Sniper Rifle into Gauss Rifle. Plus he's good at Repair, which makes some quests and stuff a lot easier

Did Cassidy have a skill? I can't remember if he did or not. I know he had that stupid heart condition which made it impossible to use any drugs on him, but end-game it's not like I ever used drugs except for taking like... 4 Jets on the Frank Horrigan fight.

Such a dumb ending. I was hoping it was going to be like Frank Horrigan in that there was no way to convince Lanius to back down, but have other ways of killing him. It goes against everything the game was setting up about the Legion. Would have made more sense if you could talk the NCR into abandoning the area if you sided with Legion.

I enjoyed the fuck out of it. I know a lot of people didn't, and I can understand why.

I loved it because of the shit ton of new Perks, SPECIAL stats, races and everything you could play in it. The tons of new weapons, armor and items. And VEHICLES. You could drive Humvee's, an APC and a Tank in certain missions. There were also a lot more special encounters and even more pop culture references than Fallout 2.

The biggest fault Tactics has is the lore. I mean... the entire plot revolves around killer robots which are basically Terminators.

It was also the first and only Fallout game that had multiplayer. Good ol' multiplayer in Game Spy Arcade.

He's a medic, but you can't really use him during combat. After combat, when healing, he's useful. Overall, a pretty shitty companion since his talent can't be used when needed most.

When I do my cheat runs (10 all SPECIAL stats) I always make sure to bring Myron along because of how painfully nerdy he is. Even better is when I do a female run and he's always trying to fuck me and I never let him

Myron wasn't actually that bad to be fair. He could really fuck shit up with the Needler pistol, and eventually a Gauss Pistol or Laser/Plasma/Pulse Pistol. He could make you stimpacks which was insanely helpful early-mid game and his Science skill was handy in certain situations.

But dear God his combat tactics were terrible. He runs after not even losing half his total health, he uses Stimpacks nearly every time he takes damage, has no Strength or Endurance and is just a whiny little prick the entire game.

He doesn't even have a good ending. He's the only companion who doesn't have a single good ending. Every time, he gets shanked by someone in Reno and dies alone and forgotten

Fawkes is built up to be one of the most moral characters in the game, but he effectively kills you by not going in himself to turn it on. I even forget what he says, something like "This is your journey/task I can't do that for you."

Using companions actually adds a layer of challenge since it makes it so that one would have to manage them to keep them alive and spend money on healing and keeping the equiped , money that could better be served being spent on the PC.
