So pretty much every serious sam game is on sale right now and I've never played any of them before but I heard there good. However I don't know If I should get the HD or classic versions of the first 2 games. Which is better? Is there even a difference?
>>
There are some differences but they're minor. I recommend you start with the classics/revolutions
>>
Isn't there a bundle with the originals and the HD remakes for like $4?
>>
Really doesn't matter, the only difference is that they couldn't recreate some of the rooms that mess with gravity. Get the HD version, IIRC you get Revolution too with it
>>
>>382428780
Either buy the whole collection or HD versions with SS3.
Then install Serious Sam Fusion. A new Serious Sam "platform" for HD and 3 on one unified engine with alterations to each game. HD versions are closer original releases and 3 has tweaked opening levels and some encounters changed. In general all the positive changes, it's officially made by Croteam.

I enjoyed SS3 a lot.
>>
The HD versions are literally the exact same game with better graphics and Steamworks support for multiplayer. No reason not to get them over the originals.

Also, The Second Encounter isn't the same as Serious Sam 2. TFE&TSE are fantastic, SS2 was made for the Xbox and plays like shit.
>>
>>382430308
But it's as bad as SS2
>>
>>382430308
I wasn't a fan of the level design, but it's still a pretty good game.
>>
>>382428780
But really, remember, if you're buying HD and/or 3, instead of installing individual games, install http://store.steampowered.com/app/564310/
It'll be free in your library after you buy the games.
>>
>>382430404
>literally the exact same game
Wrong
>>
>>382430607
The only difference is there's no gravity rooms. Everything else is fixed with Fusion.

>>
>>382430779
Wait, they took out those hidden puzzle rooms?

That's kinda disappointing, but honestly not a big deal - most of them are so well-hidden you wouldn't find them on your first playthrough anyway.
>>
>>382430308
I love how they are more or less remaster it for the Fusion version and fix most of the issues with it like making Technopolyps and Khnums only resistent against bullets instead of immune, making the single shotgun viable and even satisfying to use, adding new attacks to the enemies in hard and above difficulties, replace the lame blue skybox with actual detailed ones, making the color palette and some textures more colorful etc.
>>
>>382430912
New engine couldn't do gravity as the old one.

I still wonder why they made BFE shotgun so accurate in Fusion 2017.

Because it's fun now
>>
>>382432895
Pretty much.
It's also amusing that they made the guns way more accurate so aiming with the pistol which now has perfect accuracy is nothing more than a joke.
>>
With the new Fusion package they added Second Encounter's missing intro back in; Only thing missing now are the inverted gravity and wall walking sections in FE and SE. Serious Engine 3 doesn't support it and they said fuck no to doing another complete re-write of the engine after years of iteration.

It's actually the reason that they're doing a full remake / reboot of Serious Sam 2 on the new engine.
>>
>>382433630
>full remake / reboot of Serious Sam 2
Is it gonna be called Serious Serious Sam 2?
>>
>>382433630
>>382433953
Nah. They'll probably give it a more complex title like Serious Sam 2: The Unabridged Encounter
>>
>>382428780
Revolution is the best.

HD one ruined the hitboxes for a few enemies.

Kleers pretty much can't be one shot with the hunting shotgun now.

>SS2 without the retarded spawns
>SS2 variety and content in the new engine

YES YES YES
>>
>>382434057
It's gonna take 10 years at least.

After SS4 they're gonna focus on Talos 2.
>>
>>382434506

Well hold up--Which one is coming first?

I thought they were doing Serious Sam 2 before 4. That would make sense, right?
>>
>>382430483
At least 3 plays like serious sam game.
Consider that the 3 was made out of unused content for cancelled game and without budget they only had money to repurpose it.
>>
>>382435379
Nope
Only reason Talos exists is because they went way overboard with the puzzles during SS4 development and made it it#s own game
>>
>>382435379
They keep saying SS4 is in development, so either next year or 2019.

The Talos is another 4 years AT LEAST so that's 2023-2024

And another 4 years for SS2R
>>
Holy shit I wonder where I'll be.

Hopefully not still playing video games.
>>
>>382436798
You sure?
>>
>>382437865
That was confirmed to be done by newbie dev and isn't official.

Ok let me get this straight
>first encounter is the first game
>second encounter is the first game again but different
>2 is the second game but apparently it's not good
>Fusion fixes problems with the hd versions but there still isn't bonus rooms
>3 is just ok
>>
>>382439626
2 isn't even remotely as bad as people make it sound.
It's more of a console game due to being the sequel to the Xbox version of the Encounter games which had a much more sillier tone than the PC version.
3's vanilla version is shaping up to be great in Fusion (apparently there are going to be a lot of changes later on) and modded it's fucking awesome.
>>
>>382439626
Pretty much. TSE is basically a Doom 2-esque sequel to TFE (ie. new maps, some new enemies and guns, everything else's functionally the same) and Fusion improves BFE by quite a bit. As for DLC, Jewel of the Nile is pretty good and you should grab it if you're getting SS3, while Legend of the Beast is better left alone unless you really want to own everything or play some of those garbage ass mods available on the workshop.
>>
>>382428780
There's small differences.
However, SS3 is a prequel to rest of series. You could start with it.
>>
>>382440959
The kleer in Fusion are something alright. The alternate attack is nasty enough, but the physics changes made them absolutely ridiculous in some locations, in Lost Temples they'll ramp off the dunes like motocross bikes and ricochet everywhere off the pillars.
>>
>>382430483
Fuck no. It's prolly the best AND better than NuDoom

>>
>>382439626
TFE is the first game in the series, and TSE is something like an expansion, but roughly the same size. Which one is better is up for debate, but for most people these two are the best in the franchise.

Serious Sam 2 is a weird one. You have a lot of variety in pretty much everything, but that results in lack of cohesion. Also the tone is pretty saturday-morning-cartoon, which will put off a lot of people. The gameplay is a bit of a step back, but still fun in my opinion. It's worth a shot at least.

Serious Sam 3 BFE is a special case. I'd argue it has the best gunplay of all the games, but the new enemies are terrible, and the enemy variety is a bit lacking. But despite all this, I've played BFE the most of the whole franchise.

Of the spinoff games, only Bogus Detour is worth playing for me.

Never understood why people didn't like DDXXL.
Sure, some of the humor was SS2-tier and the art style might be too crappy for some but otherwise it was pretty good and had tons of nice ideas like the gun stacker or the corpse pits.

Every fucking year some new way to launch Serious Sam games automatically appears in my Steam library.
>>
Want the definitive serious sam experience without playing the games?

Hold your A or D key on your keyboard down and press spacebar every second or so, and your other hand should be just moving the mouse around and using the mouse buttons.

That's all the serious sam games are.

Circlestrafing and shooting at stuff while jumping around. Occassionally switching weapons.

You are not missing out on much.
