Not the anon you're replying to; I love Wizardry, but its UI aged poorly and can only be respected for conveying a good "amount of information/pain in the ass" ratio. Message log and compass are blown out of proportions and obscure like one third of the screen for no reason. Choosing spells of items feels like ass, and inventory system in general could use much more love.

I guess this might be a good thread to ask, I've been playing Wizardry 8 and really enjoying it. My party consists of fighter, valkyrie, rogue, priest, alchemist and mage and so far seems to work pretty good, however I'm currently in the first town where I recruited another rogue and a valkyrie. Should I have my rogue or valkyrie change class? I don't know if having two rogues at once is even useful and I'm worried that their future equipment might overlap. Also, how do you sleep at the inn? I'm too dumb to figure it out.

Also, if you have any tips please share them.

set your party up however you want and you can change your companions class when they level up anyway, also keep in mind certain characters won't want to go to certain areas and will have to leave your party unless you force the area transition with a teleport spell or something.
you don't sleep you just camp to rest up

this game looks so convoluted I really want to give it a try. I never played a game like this, I don't think even final fantasy has reached this level of complexity

You will probably restart a game with different party compositions like a dozen times anyway, so just play your first game however you want.

Two valkyries could be nice for early game, cheat death and all, but two rogues are pretty useless. Do not worry, you will later get into Mook base and probably switch Miles or what's his name for URQ, since your party lacks psionics.

Could've sworn the innkeeper told me I can rest up, but I guess that just meant I can camp there.

Also is it me or is offensive magic not that great in this game? Like half of the time my mage fails his spells and hits my party instead and even when he hits the enemy it doesn't do that much damage.

guests for the most part but other characters may leave the party for a time depending on their race, if you have a mook and visit the mook base in arnkia for example, there is also a scripted event in the main quest where you will lose a party member
status spells are usually more useful than straight up offensive spells but it also depends on the enemy, also keep in mind when you cast a spell you select the spell level so it sounds like you aren't skilled enough
