>>
>>382386939
>>382386976

The problem with Gun is that, well it exists. It exists at a time when RDR was claimed to be the greatest of all time. But the mistake RDR fans made, was claiming that the GOAT was RDR, before they played Gun, then playing Gun afterwards and realizing it was even better than RDR. But, since Gun wasn't an exclusive, changing their stance would lose them shitposting ammo. So Gun had to be ignored, or claimed as merely average, so they could hold up the false idol GOAT of RDR.

It's a real shame really.
>>
Desperados: Dead or Alive was great.
Red Dead for the ps2 was also good.

I don't remember who Thomas Jane is. Gun's fantastic and arguably a better "Western" than Red Dead Redemption. The Call of Juarez games vary wildly but Gunslinger, a minor arcade styled release that had little fanfare is so fun and full of love that I can't help but hate those who fucking shuttered the franchise because, much like Watch_Dogs having been the scraps of an AC, sometimes modernising certain aspects of your big titles is a bad move. Darkwatch is kind of rough but belongs to an EXTREMELY rare genre of weird west. Closest you'll get is the tabletop game Deadlands. And its actually fun to boot. Western games will likely see a minor resurgence if RDR2 does well and so i pray that someone goes the distance and tries to capitalise on that niche.

>>
>>382393338
Mixed. If you can get it cheap go for it. It suffers from some weird pacing issues and an awkward length which left me and others feeling that it was wither too short(personally) or too long(for others). The plot is kinda cool and the morality system is neat. HP's a bitch and the game is actually quite difficult for a TRPG. Watch a video from someone trustworthy on it. No more than thirty minutes and you should have a good feel for how the game looks and more or less functions. If you can find someone who plays RPGS, specifically tactical and strategy you'll be golden.

So speaking of revolvers, which game does everyone think did revolvers best? Which is your favourite revolver in a game? Personally speaking I have a massive, almost unhealthy hardon for Dan Smith's basic revolver, or the one from Singularity. The Handcannon from RE4 is obviously meant to be mentioned, though RE0's and 1's had a much better model.

No. I mentioned Darkwat h earlier as being one of the only Weird West games in existence. Blood's a blast, though. Just not very Western.

>>

>>
>>382394589
They're shit but Fistful of Frags is very much meant to play around being mildly competitive. That works for a multiplayer game but leaves players unhappy in a singleplayer one. You're absolutely right, though. I also have a lot of love for the magnum in both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, as well as the one/s from the Timesplitters games.
>>
>>382394785
Unrelated but you're not entirely wrong. They're very good looking and fun enough as setpiece games. The platforming is very lacklustre for anyone who was a fan of older Tomb Raider and the overall plots do indeed make for better films than games. Chloe/Zoe/Roe whatever makes my cock hard because she's delicious brown and has Claudia Black's voice. That's the Jew to screw and you know its true.

The game mechanics were never expanded upon and the game never tests the player's mastery of the mechanics. The story is usual Rockstar where they write quirky characters that are poorly developed if at all that they toss aside once you get to the next area. But the narrative is emotionally engaging and the setting wasn't used often at the time so it was novel despite just being GTA with a western context applied to everything. RDR is literally ledit tier trash along with every other AAA game that is popular because of how accessible it is along with an emotional ending like The Last of Us

Red dead was a good game. It may not have tested your mastery of the mechanics because it wanted you to use the ones you like. That sort of experimentation driven gameplay is what is being praised up and down right now in BotW.

Roping a wetback off his horse and dragging him along while shooting it out with his hombres was fucking fun, and the fact that you can't see it means you're a retard.
>>
>>382400481

This 100% this.

Even on release I felt the game was lacking, after I finished it I realized the only reason I was playing was the story, but the lack of closure or development for many characters left me disappointed since it was just the usual rockstar questgiver formula instead of a real story. The gameplay department was sorely lacking, and I dropped the game as soon as I finished the story, unlike with GTA where I ussually continued playing in the fun sandbox. RDR was just boring outside of it's main missions. I didn't even bother finishing all the side quests.

Arguing is better than nothing guys. I'd much rather we discuss why we like the Western genre so much. Do you all find yourselves fans of the romanticised West(almost certainly what a video game will give you) or a very real if somewhat dull one( Oregon Trail)? Would you like games with a focus on narrative or gameplay? Should it be the themes that back the gunsmoke or the gunsmoke that backs the themes?
