Anyone else feel like modern horror games are lacking in gore? I just finished Evil Within recently (good game by the way, dissapointing final boss though) and I noticed how your character's death scenes feel cheap and fake.
Everything is ragdoll now and it's not even disturbing anymore when you die, it's not just Evil Within either, I noticed it in Dead Space as well, but that one still had some good sceneslike the eye laser thing. I can't help but compare it to RE4's death scenes, where you could tell it was Leon getting torn apart and killed, not some doll getting thrown around randomly.
Any other horror games where the death scenes make you actually feel disturbed or sorry for the MC? Can be indie or whatever.Don't post Demonphobia
only plebs care about torture porn aka guro

You can elaborate if you like
Related. Haven't beaten The Evil Within yet, but I hate how modern games all have this ridiculous-looking blood that looks like strawberry jelly. TEW had that jelly on the screen problem. I really think horror games could benefit from having more realistic blood effects or at the very least, not making it look like fucking jelly.

I like the blood effects in Bloodborne & Nioh where you're eventually drenched in blood from both the enemies you kill and your own wounds. I don't understand why no horror game has ever implemented this aesthetic yet.

The only death in TEW that really got to me was the one with Boxhead putting the back-end of his hammer through Seb's face.

The Last of Us was pretty tame, especially since it usually cuts out right at the moment you die, but man, fuck the Bloaters.

I disagree with you about the dead space not having good death scenes, that head hijack scene is one of the greatest. But I've got a huge deadspace boner so I'm a tad bias I suppose.

The cut after the actual gory part is kinda odd, but I guess it leaves something to the imagination, which might be scarier when you see it for the first time

To be completely honest, I didn't get to play any of the Dead Space games yet, but I did say that it had some good scenes, and now that you mention it, that one is definetly one of those. Shit is spooky as fuck

Well let me shill for my boys at Viceral Games. You gotta play them my dude, first 2 are fucking awesome. 3rd one go ahead and play it if you love the lore. Otherwise eh, pretend it ended at 2. Though if you end up hating it, we all have our opinions.

You don't have to, I'm aware of the games' quality, I had copies of 2 & 3 from my brother but my PS3 got it's HDMI output busted before I could play it. My siblings were really into it, even though we didn't get the first one. They didn't care much for the 3rd game though.
I suppose I can't expect a remasted collection for the PS4 on the series, considering that it seems to be dead now.

Horror doesn't necessarily needs a lot of gore. See Silent Hill 2 for example. But yes, they are.

If you have a computer get the girst to for like 1.59 each lel, it's better on cpu if you have a nice headset because it really boosts the ambiance.
What about the Outlast series? Some of the goriest games I've ever seen. I think it's so overkill that I was completely desensitized to the piles of dead bodies and guts that the game constantly throws at you, though.
Pic related did get to me, though.

Saw a few scenes and it looked cool. Don't look up more so it won't spoil me too much, I might give it a try.

Laura's kill is great...until she pops your head off. Like, just smashing Seb's face in was great, end it there.
Also, the fact you can get your head sliced only partially off as opposed to only from the neck is great.
