>amiibo is a Metroid breaking out of captivity
>Metroid II is pretty much the only game that doesn't involve Metroids breaking out of captivity
What did they mean by this?
>>
>The galaxy is not at peace

Does this mean Super Metroid 2?
>>
it means the team behind the metroid amiibo didn't want to have a plastic dildo sticking out its asstroid.
>>

>>
>>382358601
If we're being optimistic it's because there are gonna to be enough new metroid games that the majority of the ones you can use it for involve them escaping.
>>
>>382359689
maybe not the same team behind that amiibo.

I don't really know if each development team has a say in the make of the toy or it's just a amiibo dedicated team.
>>
I have a K.K. Slider amiibo.
>>
>>382358601

>>
ive never played metroid, can a big metroid fan please explain the plot to me. why is it a big deal the flying brain dudes escape captivity?
>>
that's a lot of body meat compared with the old Metroid artwork.
it even has an eye?
>>
>>382360393
The peacefulness of the Galaxy is directly correlated to the captivity state of the Metroids.
If they escape then the Galaxy won't be at peace.
>>
>>382359689
That's not a dildo, that's vaginal squirting
>>
>>382360289
During the treehouse stream, Sakamoto said that he just told the amiibo team to make whatever they thought was good. So it seems like they have a dedicated amiibo team at Nintendo.
>>
>>382358601
It looks delicious. They should really make Metroid gummies
>>
>>382361175
The key there is Sakomoto told them they could do whatever.
The BotW amiibo could've been strictly decided by Aonuma for what poses they have resulting in the dildo block just like how Sakurai wanted all the smash amiibo to be their actual in game trophies even though it didnt work well in real life.
>>
>>382361645
I think all amiibo are always based on concept or key art.
I've yet to see an amiibo in a original pose
>>
>>382360393
Metroids are jellyfish-like creatures created by dead magical bird people (Chozo) that absorb the lifeforce of their prey, killing them in the process. Here's a quick summary of most games in the series, in chronological order:
Metroid/Zero Mission: Space Pirates are cloning Metroids on planet Zebes. Samus is tasked with infiltrating their base, killing the Space Pirate commanders and destroying Mother Brain, an AI created by the Chozo that betrayed them and turned evil. The base ends up getting destroyed.

Prime series: A bunch of other shenanigans involving Metroids and Space Pirates. Most of the games deal with a strange energy source called Phazon that corrupts everything it touches. Samus ends up destroying a planet in the process.

Metroid II/Samus Returns: Metroids are deemed too dangerous to be kept alive so Samus is tasked with genociding them all. She travels to the only place in the universe where Metroids exist in the wild (SR-388) and eventually finds out that when they're in their homeworld, they can metamorphise into bigger creatures. Samus eventually kills all the Metroids, but then the last Metroid egg hatches, Samus spares its life and she gives it to researchers.

Super Metroid: One minute after she leaves the research station, it gets attacked by Space Pirates and the Baby Metroid is stolen. Samus is tasked with infiltrating Zebes again. She kills all the Space Pirate commanders, destroys Mother Brain and another planet ends up being destroyed. The Baby Metroid gets killed by Mother Brain's new robot dinosaur body as it tries to save Samus.

Metroid Other M: Samus becomes emotionally unstable because of the death of her jellyfish child and ends up helping out a group of Galactic Federation troops who are investigating a space station investigating dodgy stuff. She ends up reuniting with her former commander who she ends up lusting over. She ends up destroying this research station.

1/2
>>
>>382358601
I guess it needs something to anchor it to the base.

They should make it squishy like the yoshi amiibo
>>
>>382362393
Metroid Fusion: Samus is sent as a bodyguard for a research team that is sent to SR-388, since the planet is now safe due to a lack of Metroids. It turns out that the reason Metroids were created was because there was an even deadlier parasite called the X parasite. With Metroids out of the equation, the X parasite are free to infect everything freely. Samus gets attacked by the X parasite and almost died but she receives a vaccine made from remnants of the Baby Metroid. She is then sent to investigate a research vessel in orbit of SR-388 that was revealed to have been attacked by the X parasite. Eventually, she ends up blowing up the research vessel and the entire planet.
>>
>>382360393
They're facehuggers that can fly and can only be killed in cold temperatures, so both the evil government and space pirates want them as bioweapons.

In Metroid II all but one are exterminated, so capturing the last Metroid for the purposes of cloning becomes a major plot point.
>>
>>382358601
It's just a fun reference. They're not going to be doing a Super Metroid remake, but that is still the apex of the series which RoS leads into featuring a character from the ending. It's either do the amiibo of that iconic scene now, or never do it at all.

They were once space jellyfish created by talking space birds with the help of a talking brain in a fishbowl to combat living space snot that somehow appeared on their planet from someone having a wicked space sneeze.
The jellyfish killed the birds and all the space snot but not really. Not too long after, the jellyfish are found by a bunch of space ruffians under the command of a space dragon and a fat lizard with three eyes and three bellybuttons that fires bellybutton lint, which is all he has going for him really.
Metroid 1 happens.

The entire powerbomb segment, the new boss battles, the map design, the soundtrack and a few minor story details that were completely lost in translation.
>>
>>382367607
>>382367325
I think its balance between powerups acquired and enemy difficulty level is top notch.

you always have a nice time enjoying your destructive power against previously hard enemies until the game introduces new, harder monsters.

boss fights - metroids specially - are pretty crappy

level design is great as well, better than a huge amount of "professional" metroidvanias even if it falls short compared to the likes of Supero or Zero Mission
>>
>>382365140
They're good figures FOR THE PRICE RANGE.

Basically the only things they really compete with at their price is pops which they blow out of the water.

Compared to a good figure they're like 1/10th the price so clearly they aren't going to be that good.
>>
>>382369210
The level design isn't brilliant in AM2R. The original Metroid II was a fairly linear game and AM2R was fairly faithful to the original's layout. But AM2R added newer upgrades and forced the player to backtrack quite heavily if you want to 100% the game. People seem to have the misconception that backtracking defines Metroid but that's just wrong. Metroid games usually design their maps so that any clean-up required to 100% the game can usually be done in one smooth trip. There are a number of hidden shortcuts that can only be used at the very end of the game to make this clean-up even smoother. Even with the warp-pipe system, the backtracking in AM2R is still tedious. It's certainly not the worst game ever at map design (far from it) but if you want to compare it to official games then it falls very short.
>>
>>382369985
although I don't totally dissagree with your assement of AM2R.

Super metroid had several bit in which you have to go backwards after picking up something, heck, the very beggining in old Tourian is like that
>>
>>382362965
>can only be killed in cold temperatures
Unless they've evolved into Alpha stage. Then you're officially fucked.

Actually, once you reach the final area where the Queen is located, you can see a Chozo statue that's been completely obliterated by something large and fierce. There are also broken stasis chambers in the final area, implying the Metroids got out of hand, thus escaped, and killed their own creators.
>>
>>382367027
I mean, the Space Pirats kept doing horrid experiments on them along with feeding them weird shit, its not wonder the metroids got pissed with them and attacked whenever they could
>>
>>382370835
To be fair, I'd be pissed too if I was being used for target shooting practice.
>>
>>382370683
The backtracking through old Tourian at the beginning of the game is slightly different due to the addition of Space Pirates and other creatures after getting the Morph Ball. And while it's not 100% perfect when it comes to backtracking (or rather a lack of it), most of the upgrades can be picked up quite smoothly. The only really obtuse backtracking required for 100% I can think of is when you have to fall through the same sand pit in two different areas in Maridia.
>>
>>382370739
>the trashed chozo statue was holding an ice beam

Metroid 2's use of environmental storytelling is underrated.
>>
>>382363753
>>382363909
That's not how -mind posts work dumbasses
>>
>>382367394
Oh my god
>>
>>382370739
In Fusion, the Omega Metroid was weak to the Ice Beam. And I'm pretty sure I've seen the Alpha Metroids in this game have their underbelly frozen by the Ice Beam somewhere (either as part of the Treehouse stream or during the trailer). Metroids losing their weakness to cold as they evolve will probably be retconned, which would make Other M slightly less retarded in hindsight.
>>
>>382367467
Not tamed. Baby Metroid *IMPRINTED* itself onto Samus. Following your mother around is not the same as following orders from a pink shaved ape.
>>
>>382371954
I never understood how infant Metroids are even weak to the cold. Maybe because they cannot absorb the kinetic energy off things that attack it?
>>
>>382372346
Mother Brain/MB also tamed the Metroids.
>>
>>382368151

the level design is really pretty horrendous. So many empty hallways with randomly placed enemies. Aside from some obvious setpieces I can scarcely remember a single room in that game.
>>
>>382371954
It was a cloned specimen, so it might not have been able to withstand the ice beam that it normally would have. I've not seen enough of Samus Returns gameplay to recognize if the alphas can be frozen in their underbelly.

I just remember the beams did not stack in the original, so you had to replace the ice beam with the plasma beam eventually. Ice was useless against the evolved forms anyways too; hence why you get a second grab at the ice beam later in the nest area because you have to freeze and kill the traditional larvae stage that suddenly appear.
>>382371553
Hell yeah. Best use of "Show, Don't Tell" I've ever seen a video game.
>>
>>382373821
If the game hadn't been DMCA'd, Doc did intend to keep updating the final full game with various new game+ content (such as going out of order to defeat the Metroids). Unless there are some folks out there who have access to the code and are able to make their own patches to update the game in secrecy, we'll never get a truly finished version of the final game.
But I'll agree, Area 6 is very devoid of enemies (I guess you could argue that the Omegas are the apex predator and have eaten everything at the level, while everything above had yet to fully evolve and destroy more of the ecosystem), as was Area 5 at times.
>>
>>382371954
Also, I'd give up on even trying to consider Other M as canon when it has so many plotholes punched throughout.
>>
>>382373286
she was controlling them since both were created by the Chozo and may have been supposed to be connected like a wifi router-wifi device
