Now that Steam abolished the ability to store games into inventory, it appears the reseller days are now numbered.

I was over at G2A, and so many pages are just empty of inventory. Sucks really, it was the best place to escape the greed of code moneys trying to scam people out of hundreds for broken half finished games.

I guess resellers are now limited to purchasing game keys at discount, when they can.
>>
>>382327534
Doesn't this inadvertently hurt steam sales as well?
>>
Yes but its also like anyone else buying a companies product and then reselling it. Illegal.
>>
>>382327626
I can't see why it would hurt steam. G2A basically extended Steam sales by offering a marketplace for people to sell games they bough on sale, and store in their inventory.

Now, if you want a particular game, and it's not on sale, you either pay full price or go without, or pirate.
>>
>>382327534
>Steam abolished the ability to store games into inventory
you can't get a key for doing this. The majority of g2a shit are people in countries with low currency reselling to a 1st worlder.
>>
>>382327626
Killing anything that could be thought of as competition could do even more damage though
>>
When did steam abolish the ability to store games in my inventory?
>>
Never bought a G2A key that came from an inventory.
It was always just straight up keys.
>>
>>382327875
In May of this year. You now have to gift directly to a Steam friend.
>>
Sucks now that I have to friend someone first before gifting.

>>
>>382327921

I think I've bought like 4 keys and 1 inventory item.
Either way I haven't used the site in a while since after they changed the VAT system for EU citizens. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, you're given the option to choose how much VAT you need to pay depending on the region you live in. They're a shady operator based in Hong Kong, so they're not going to report shit to your domestic authorities, but either way if you choose 0% VAT you're committing fraud technically. I don't like the prospect of that.
>>
>people itt unironically defending this anti-capitalist, anti-free market decision to fuck them in the ass
It's okay when Valve does it
>>
>>382328069
I never purchased their shield protection. I bought dozens of games. I got burned once, and G2A refunded my money.

G2A is a marketplace, just like Ebay, and if you're too much of a retarded maggot to understand how internet marketplaces work, then just shoot yourself.

Buy from sellers with hundreds of sales and a good rating if you're worried about a scammer. Simple as that.

Steam sales are sales during the low sales time of summer, these companies were hording keys being sold cheap and ruining sales though the whole year when most people do buy games (winter)

Bro so what if it's illegal and immoral, I saved money by buying from criminals bro

Why not just pirate games if you don't want to support the developers you absolute moron
>>
>>382330252
They're the typical cuck that goes out and finds the dirtiest, potentially AIDS riddled bum to fuck their girlfriend on cam.

They'll relentlessly cry that their games are rip-offs and splintered into a thousand DLC, but when some marketplace offers a method of legally purchasing games heavily discounted, they all of sudden become white nights to the very dev community that wants to bleed them dry of cash.

Personally, I think it's devs themselves who start all the anti-g2a threads on reddit. Since they know how easily manipulated those little faggots are.

>>
>>382327534

It'll just push them into buying more stolen keys. Which in turn will hurt developers and consumers more.

They're not going to pack up shop and stop making money just because Valve made it more difficult to do it fairly. They're just going to switch to more unfair tactics.
>>
>>382327768
>people to sell games they bough on sale

Most of those keys were stolen trough credit card fraud.
>>
>>382332380
WTF are you bullshitting about? The devs issue keys for their games. They aint selling stolen keys.

G2A got a bad rap for theft when some faggots stole some credit cards and tried to use G2A to launder their goods.

That's not G2A's fault. Hell, you gonna blame Ebay when some faggot steals a credit card, then runs to BestBuy and purchases a TV to sell on Ebay?

Won't this inventory shit just make people buy less games? If you have to gift the games immediately during the buy process, it means there will be less games bought and less games played. Like this:

>buy game for yourself and your two buddies during sales
>can't buy a fourth game because you don't have a fourth player and you can't save it in your inventory
>months later after sale
>fourth player appears
>can't gift him a game because you couldn't hold one in your inventory
>you're not going to buy a full priced game, especially after you bought your own copy for much cheaper
>>
>>382327534
Speak English you subhuman mongrel.
>>
Why not just limit how many copies of the game you can have in your inventory? Or just limit the amount of games you can have in your inventory bought during sales? That would be fine and would make sense. The higher the base price, the less you can stock it in your inventory.

It's almost as if different prices are offered in different regions, or the games go on sale or something crazy like that.

Fraud allegations have NOTHING to do with how key sellers managed to get their hands on such cheap keys. The concern isn't over stealing keys from Steam, it's about buying legitimate keys at legitimate prices with stolen money.

I've no idea if its faggots or shills that spread this shit. I used G2a for 3 years, whenever Dark souls 1 came out on pc, and i never once got fucked with a fake key. I never bought that bullshit safeguard or whatever the fuck it was called. Ironically i used a "legit" site the other day bundlestars and the first game i bought was "duplicate cd-key detected".

you can resell anything you bought. when you can't is when you didn't simply buy something but instead entered a bona fide a agreement where you said you wouldn't resell.

What is the rating of the seller and how many games it sold? If it is something like +98% with thousands of it then it is safe

I don't know if the gift restriction applies to already existing gifts however
>>
>>382355018
Unlikely as long as you buy from sellers who have a decent amount of sales reputation.
You might get fucked over with the same key being sent twice somewhere, since most of the sellers are really bots - but even without the protection bullshit, it gets fixed pretty quickly once a real human reads the request.
>>
>>382355113

It's someone with no rating, but they sold two games and got thumbs up.
I read before that the ones with low sales are good too because it's just people dumping games they don't want.
I'll look and see if there's a better reseller.
Is it safer to get a key or gift? Or it doesn't matter
>>
>>382354965
it's called price discrimination. as a business there really is no such thing as a set price. your real objective is to sell your stuff to every person on the planet at the highest price they are willing to pay whilst still making value for your business.

You can do your sarcastic insults all you want but they can lock down regions even further.
>>
>>382354946
it means they are a jew. people used it offensively but now SJW also use it defensively saying i am a proud jew.
>>
>>382355420
I never heard of that, but i always find it better to err on the side of caution.
If you can't find a reseller i think you can buy from G2A themselves directly. Slightly more expensive however.
Remember to check region compatibility. Some are only for RU/CIS region
>>
>>382355420
check if the game is on cdkeys.com they only sell legit copies they source themselves. G2A uses 3rd parties.

He's saying that because if you pirate a game, the devs get nothing.
If you buy a key that was purchased with a stolen credit card, then the credit card company does a charge back and then they have to pay a fee on top of returning the money.

That's what he means by directly hurting the devs.
