Minecraft generates around 73 million a year on selling the game alone. Throw in merchandise, spin-offs, licensing deals, paid servers, branding, etc. and it's considerably more.

The 2.5 billion Microsoft spent on buying out Mojang would only generate around 25 million a year doing nothing but gathering interest in a bank. The thing rich people and big corporations understand is money that sits around being stockpiled and doing nothing is worthless.

seeing that both measurements were estimates, "about", i just rounded that shit off. if they literally sat on their asses, they would have 2.5 billion AND that not accounting for compound interest 55 years worth of 25 million interest. theyd be sitting on 3.8 billion, instead of in 55 years just breaking even on their original 2.5 billion
