In Nier, you had to repeat the second part of the game a few times, but this really didn't take that long. Some events also play out differently and things are revealed the further you progress.

In Automata you only repeat it once as a different character which also doesn't take that long, and events are played out differently.

For the rest of anons still unaware, it works like this:

Game is divided into two parts.
You play through first part with 2B first, 9S hangs around most of the time.
Ending [A] follows.
Then you reply same time frame from 9S' perspective (you'll see what the shota was up to when he wasn't hanging out with 2B)
This part has added new game play mechanic, extra background lore for bosses, 12 new 9S specific side quests
Ending [B].
Second part of story starts.
You switch between playing 2A and 9S for 4 chapters.
Once certain event happens game switches between characters automatically as needed.
You get ending [C] or [D] depending on your decision at the end of this part.
Once you get [C] or [D], chapter select becomes available so you can chose any part of the story and jump right in (like if you got ending [C] you can start from the decision and outright pick [D] without replying the 2nd half of the game).
Chapter select also allows you to finish quests you might have failed or ignored at the time.

Retard trolls often seem to imply that you have to play the same game 4 or 5 time which is an outright lie.
Only part that's same and you have to reply it is the middle part of Route B (9S' play through).

I'm just in this thread to post some 2B art.

most of the content is quite different as you often get different cutscenes and gameplay becomes a bulletpurgatory minigame for the most part. Also you will probably do most of the sidequests as 2b so second route was quite short.

My biggest complaint was character specific locks on doors and chests, this shit killed exploration for me and made me backtrack a whole lot for a very little reason. Route c and d are continuation.

Still didn't really like the game aside from music and true ending (whatever the fuck was it? e or f?). I don't feel the game had a lot to say about the nature of reality and consciousness, it mostly approached it from couple of surface level angles, and romance or any kind of character interaction fell flat for me (aside from a2 and 042). Oh and you can't use dead family members and friends for most of the sidequests, it becomes stale.

Serious answer: Third person action, with both ranged weaponry and melee weaponry (of varying speeds and length) active at all times. In terms of flow, it's semi-open world, in that you're encouraged to explore some relatively large areas and can travel between them at will, but it's not one big sandbox. There are a few different leveling/crafting mechanics for making the player stronger (materials can be found laying around the map and on enemies).

First playthrough is brand new.
Second playthrough splits abput 75% of the way through which can be in a couple hours if you did most of the side quests on the first playthrough. Third playthrough is brand new and more like sequel to the first and second. Fourth "playthrough" is literally just redoing the very final boss of the third.
