these were awful quality, but little me was amazed to have a movie in my pocket. now i watch like 6 hours of youtube a day and take it for granted. i would never dare to go back to this remedial technology. not even umds are good enough for me now. its why im slow to adopt 4k. once i get used to it, i will never see 1080p the same way again. i think i'll stick with hd until 2025. i'll save money on tech since even a 1060 is overkill for 1080p gaming and my radeon 7800 is still going strong

UMDs were pretty cool if you ask me. I always kept mine in their cases and they still work even today. I have peacewalker PS:P2 (and 2i), and valhalla knights on UMD and play them pretty frequently. I had hackers, the boondocks season 1, and advent children, duh for movies. Besides being a tiny screen they worked just fine. Of course, once I modded my PSP after patapon came out and I wanted it but couldn't afford it, all I ever did was get porn and stuff the mp4s on there.

The GBA video movies, as well as Disney Channel Vol 2 are "undumpable" because they use 64MB ROMs and have to use a mapper to allow bankswitching.

Having worked at a video game store at the beginning of last gen, UMDs were just cheaply made and fragile. Good replacement cases were always better than the original. I personally had a few games start to 'split' just from normal use/taking them in and out of the case.

360 discs were pretty awful as well. Either circular scratches from the system tipping or cracks forming in the center of the disc. It was insane how common the cracks were. I don't think I worked with a single person that liked the system. The early models were a fucking nightmare.
