Red Dead Redemption and Bully are my favorite Rockstar games. Vice City is the shit too, but I'm biased since I love 80s crime shit. Never cared much for any other GTA

I'm playing through it right now and it's a nice change of pace but the slow fucking travel is awful. I would use carriages but they don't even take you exactly where you want and will end up leaving you miles away from the actual waypoint. Not having a convenient means of fast travel is off putting. I don't want to ride a fucking horse for 40 mins just to get a Stranger mission.

Other than that I like it. I wouldn't say it's their best game, but it's definitely Top 3 from what I've played so far.

I guess. I mean or you can just play Saints Row instead. IV > V. V would have an argument if the game wasn't so fucking short and the characters were actually likeable. They did so many things right with V but also took so many steps back that I was actually annoyed. It also doesn't help the fact that they went full jews with multiplayer instead of adding on DLC expansion for single player. I think that's another big reason why IV was better than V, even excluding the fact that there was more to the base game than V, it also had TLAD and BoGT. All 5 has is more shitty guns and shark cards.

For me it's GTA 3. It's definitely not the best in the series, but when it came out there was absolutely nothing even approaching the gameplay of that thing. It was goddamn revolutionary and probably the one I spent more time with.

I get what your saying. IV created a better overall world, but it felt too claustrophobic for a GTA game, especially after San Andreas. It was closer to GTA 3 though, and RockStar obviously saw that game as a better representation of their roots, while San Andreas and Vice City, and other side games, were more for fun, so they opened them up. Driving around in IV can irritate the fuck out of you if you haven't memorized and mastered the game. There is so much shit to run into and back alleys are a cluster fuck (stairs that lead to a railing every fucking time; alley that isn't straight, so you run into a wall). While V opened up everything and made it painfully clear where you can go and easily drive around at full speed.

I like to think of it as Rockstars metaphor for Western vs Eastern life in the US.

While I really enjoyed the setting and story of RDR, it was absolutely buttfucked by a console release. Sub 30ps, horrible textures and janky controls wouldn't have been present on PC - and it's s real fucking shame.

Imagine RDR at 4K. Or even just running with a HD texture pack at 120fps. It'd be glorious. Massive missed opportunity. I don't buy that they couldn't do it technically due to shitty code.

Honestly i'm a bit both ways now, in one hand it would be nice to not have to wait for 360 emulation to be at a decent level to play it on PC, but rockstar has done really shitty things recently (openIV controversy and constantly adding online funbucks in discounts to keep price at $60), so I don't even know if i'd buy it.
