Prototype.

You play as Alex Mercer the whole game. He still has his personality. He still has his memories. He still has a sister for whom he cares. You always default back to Alex Mercer when you're done imitating someone else in the game. He even continues to appear as Alex Mercer in the comics that take place after the game.

Then the game tries to force this narrative of "you're not Alex Mercer, you were actually the virus this whole time!"

Minesweeper.
Sequel when?
>>
>>382284043
It's a confusing meta-narrative designed to lampoon how sequels often just remake the first story. Practically nothing in it matters. It was made this way to troll anyone who plays it or gave a shit about the first MGS.
>>
>>382289190
Time loop based stories are the laziest thing a writer can do to make a story look complex.
It's actually very easy to make a complex story, any retard can do that.
Now to make a story complex, but interesting , with good narrative and no plot holes, that's something completely different.

The original Kingdom Hearts wasn't complicated at all though.
>>
>>382288924
Yeah I'll be honest, I didn't get this for shit when I first played it and I thought it was because the story just went over my head or I missed some core concept that was integral to fully understanding the ending. But the more you examine it the more issues and plot holes you start to find. It's not hard to understand because of complexity, but because it's poorly written.

Agreed on this one. I recently played through the CoD infinite campaign, and had no fucking idea what was happening. They're was so much backstory and world building that they just skipped out on. I felt like there must have been a book or something setting up the universe that I missed. Also, the villains were so cartoonishly evil that it just got to be absurd.

All you need to know is that a snake and a satellite are siblings and the snake wants to break all the satellite's toys so the satellite keeps resetting the universe because snake brother is a dick

The entire story is just a series of cosmic-scale brother complexes.

Probably FFXII because I progressed the plot like every 20 hours. By the time I got to the next cutscene, I'd already lost all context. Seeing Cid was a trip.

Guilty Gear 2 Overture

Destiny. They so utterly failed to tell any form of a coherent story that I had no idea what was going on. Also, including all the information lore in some out of game app has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. Why did they do that? Why couldn't they explain anything about the universe or story in-game?

To keep it as brief as possible:

>researchers uncover an ancient civilization
>the technology/blood of that civilization cures all illnesses
>eventually blood turns people into monsters
>hunting squads are formed to hunt these monsters
>meanwhile other researchers make contact with ayy lmaos
>shit goes off the rails
>PC character shows up
>proceeds to absorb gallons of blood and the insight to see ayy lmaos
>ancient queen had her baby ripped from her womb and it brought about the apocalypse
>PC kills baby Great One and everyone involved
>PC kills protector of alternate dimension who just pretending to be a cripple
>PC kills Great One who was pulling the strings all along
>PC turns into babby Great One and will eventually lead humanity into a new golden age

I probably explained it poorly but that's the gist of the story.
>>
>>382295897
The second game actually explains why they didn't get stuck as monsters, but the explanation just makes everything spiral out of control and dive into even further insanity.

The Goddess of time uncurses the party out of pity, but she fucking sucks at her job and altering their destiny has somehow caused holes in time and now evil smoke made out of sadness is destroying reality and Lightning is a valkyrie and nobody remembers her and then her sister has to stop a man who can turn into Bahamut even though Fang has Bahamut and then her sister kills the Bahamut man but he and the time goddess had the same heart at the same time so killing him covered the entire world in sadness and now time doesn't exist even though it still mostly does. This isn't even touching the third game.

The game was jumped around platforms during development and had to cut off alot of the actual plot and make the second half come to some form of conclusion. The sequel fixes that at least since it uses the concepts and stuff that was supposed to be in the first GR.

Not even Kojimbo is able to do that.

only a handful of games like MGS which everybody has already said even have a story complex enough for this to be possible

video game stories are mostly just stupid shit

Nukes are bad, m'kay.
Snake is an old killer, hired to do wetwork. Big Boss is his dad.
>>
>>382297038
That's not possible, you have to go down kaathe's hole to put down the lord vessel, put the souls in and go to the final boss

Ignoring a neverending sea of bullshit: Big Boss was the world's best soldier on account of the fact that in his prime he kept blowing up nuclear robots. So they decided to clone him, 3 clones to be exact. You got Solid Snake who got all the recessive genes, Liquid Snake who got all the dominant genes, and Solidus Snake who was a perfect copy. Big Boss decided to sic his own nuclear robot on MURRICA so Solid Snake blew it up and set Big Boss on fire, killing him mostly. Liquid read the wrong paper or something and thought he got all of Big Boss's recessive genes which therefore made Solid Snake superior to him. Because apparently Liquid never made it past 5th grade and has no fucking idea how genetics works. So he throws a temper tantrum and gets Otocon to build a him a nuclear robot. Which Solid Snake blows up. The US Government is starting to get sick of all these nuclear robots so they create a nuclear robot killer. Too bad they're being controlled by the Patriots, who are the Patriots? They're robots that run the world. Some more bullshit happens, Liquid lives on through a big boss fanboy except he doesn't. And the Big Boss fanboy plunges the world into chaos because he wants to break all the robots that are making the world fight each other so Solid Snake is hired to kill him. And everyone dies. And people start turning into robots. Some get samurai swords. War has changed. The end.

If you accept frampt offering kaathe doesn't appear in the void
>>

Big Boss almost break world, his clone sons break world, everyone else break world worse trying to fix it, don't make killer robots
>>
>>382298150
You're right, except for the part where you're completely fucking wrong and not right at all. If you talk to Frampt and place the Lord Vessel for him before you fight the Four Kings, then Kaathe will get disappeared from your playthrough before he ever appears. When I killed the Four Kings there was no Kaathe to greet me, just an empty Abyss and a bonfire to warp out of it. Later, the game gave me the Dark Lord ending for walking out of the Kiln without linking the fire.

>Big Boss is one of the best soldiers in the world
>A mission called "Operation Snake Eater" involved him assassinating his mentor who he thought had defected to the Soviets
>turns out it was a ruse and his mentor was a spy, but had to be killed to keep it under wraps
>Big Boss becomes distraught, loses faith in the US, becomes a mercenary, starts worlds first PMC (private military company)
>Before he left the US they made 3 clones of him
>Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake
>Big Boss becomes a warmonger with nuclear weapons and Metal gears (basically mechs with nuclear launch capability) and tries to establish a military nation, known as Outer Heaven. A place where soldiers are not just tools at the hands of government and they fight for whatever reason they want
>The US considers Outer Heaven to be a threat to the world, sends in Solid Snake to destroy it and kill Big Boss
>Big Boss survives the first time, but is burnt to near death the second time, and basically becomes a vegetable.
>Solid Snake learns Big Boss was his father, gets PTSD from commiting patricide, retires
>Later chronological games are basically about Solid snake coming out of retirement to stop the 2 other clones, as they want to carry on Big Boss' legacy and make their own 'Outer Heaven'
>At the end of MGS4 (the last game chronologically) Big Boss is reconstructed and comes back to make peace with Solid Snake before dying of old age, admitting he was wrong in the things he did, and how he failed his mentor.

Some other technicalities in there but thats the gist of it.

Also MGSV isnt canon.

Shepherd was emotionally broken after the nuke in MW1 and wanted to increase military enlistment and spending by instigating a war.

The game explains it pretty clearly. The problem is that you can poke holes in the story like wet tissue paper

I havent beat it yet but Nier Automata
why do the robots even care about dying when they can just be reborn in another body?
what is the size of this operation that they have a structured military force, but a simple letter and number is enough to designate every unit on the force?
are there any repeat numbers or does it go to like 1000D, or are there only like 100 androids in existence
and if humans were exiled to the moon, how did they get the resources to create this android force and space station in the first place?
