seems fine
>>382262824
>using an i7 instead of settling for an i5
why? it's more processing power than you'll ever need
>>382262824
>i7
>1060
yeah bud you smart as hell
>>382263158
This anon has an point.
Do you intend to do some hardcore number crunching, running simulations, video editing, compressing and uncompressing?
An i5 is ok for gaming alone.
Honestly, just do Windows 10. It has a lot of annoying shit, but it's maximum compatibility for games.
>>382263158
>>382263251
it may not matter but I want to play dwarf fortress and make silly youtube bideos and photoshop
should the solid state drive be my main hard drive or do they both act as the one hard drive?
>>382263476
Probably still light enough for an i5. Save the money, get an 1070.
>>382263652
Main, install Windows on it, so it boots fast and the programs are loaded from there by default.
The other is essentially a large and fast permanent flash drive.
>>382263816
how about the GECK? I want to mod bethesda games
>>382263652
Use the SSD for the OS, and the other one for storing shit. Don't even think about making it a raid.
>>382263402
If he planned on doing any of that, a ryzen would be a better idea than an i5.
>>382262824
>GPU alone is 600 dollars
The fuck? Why is it so expensive?
Ok, change the i7 to an i5
Get a 1070 instead (unless you really dont want play really new games)
Get a bigger cpu cooler. Intel heats up quite a lot, and the -K series is meant to be overclocked, so you want good cooling on it.
Size matters, dont be shy of large, multiple fan coolers.
I would push a little further onnthe ssd to get 240 gigs, but that is not important. Maybe consider 16gb of ram because everything now a days is unoptimized as fuck.
Devs dont give a fuck if their internet browser is eating up 3 gb of RAM to play a song in youtube in the background, they expect you to get more ram instead.
>>382262824
You have an unlocked processor and a motherboard that does not allow overclocking. Get a mother board with z170 or z270 in the name. If you don't plan on overclocking get a non k cpu
Not too sure about that cooler but for $10 I would imagine it's not the best. Get something better
That gpu is fine but the prices are insanely high right now due to shortages. Wait a while. I got my gtx 1070 for just under $400
operating system is fine I guess
>>382263652
Install windows on the ssd then you can set up the hdd within windows as secondary storage
>>382264457
shortages due to crypto currency miners buying everything
>>382264625
>tfw you built your pc just after prices normalized for hard drives following the tsunami but just before prices for gpus inflated due to a resurgence in ponzi coin mining
>>382264457
That gpu is supposed to be worth 250 dollars, but there has been a coin-mining craze last few months and the price skyrocketed. I STRONGLY recommend not to buy it at this price, in a few months the mess will calm down.
>>382262824
>1060
>$600
Here you go anon

p.s.
fuck cryptocucks
>>382265951
put wrong gpu, this is what I meant to put
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6nQ9HN
>>382265951
>fuck cryptocucks
How much did they used to cost?
>>382266348
A 1060 should be closer to $200-$250
>>382266348
the 1060s are supposed to be in the $200-$300 range. The rx 480/580 too
>>382266408
>>382266475
Oh well guess I'll just get a cheaper one on Microcenter if I ever decide to set up one.

>>382266348
Also, for context, the 1080 in this list (>>382266195) has twice the number of compute units at the same clock speed. Essentially twice as powerful and the price is unaffected by cruptocucks, so they are still around $500
