Crash 2 is fantastic but Crash 1's incredibly rough and Crash 3 added too much bullshit to the formula. The remasters look like a mobile game with those awful assets, the originals still look great even today. The models look really good on everybody except for Crash himself who looks fucking terrible

In his defense, he's not wrong about Crash having essentially the exact same premise as Sonic and almost any other mascot platformer. Crash's world and cast of characters are about as generic as you can get, especially for the time. The only thing that set it apart was Naughty Dog's polish and attention to detail, but even that wasn't enough to keep it relevant all these years.

Crash 1 feels outdated but 2 and 3 still hold up in the sidescroll platformer genre with the rest of the heavyweights, it was really fucking popular at the time too, had Naughty Dog or Sony conserved the rights to it, it may have become something like Mario today, with a lot of spin-offs, kart games and even maybe a step up to 3D platforming like Mario (See Twinsanity but better executed and not rushed)
