Why 21 games?
It's such an odd and low number.
What was Nintendo thinking? Why not 30 games like the NES Classic Mini, but +1up it with one additional game?

What additonal 10 games would you have added to this rather lackluster and disappointing collection to make it worthwile?
>>
it's a sampler for the virtual console with an added bonus of reeling in collectors
>>
>why give 30 games to the goy if they will pay the same price for 21
>>
21 games to match the the 21 year olds that will be buying it for the retro appeal. They could sell the damned things with a single game and people would still buy them.
>>
Because it's intentional.
>>
>>382148680
*pay more for 21
>>
>>382148453
Snes games cost more on the e-shop. Value wise it would make sense.
>>
They literally don't need to. Sheep are eating this shit up despite it being a blatant ripoff. It's as disgusting as microtransactions and on-disc DLC.
>>
Someone needs to buy it so we can get that Starfox 2 rom for everyone else.

>Why 21 games?
Because it's in no way interchangeable with the NES. You know what should be maximally interchangeable with the NES mini? A PCE mini!

Actually, it wouldn't even have to be much of a mini, since the PCE was already so compact, but still, a PCE classic edition needs to be released, with gamepads interchangeable with NES ones.
>>
>>382148453
Hey man, 100mb of storage is expensive. It's not like these things are going for an exorbitant price or anything.

:^)))))

Doesnt matter. Only scalpers will get a hold of these things.

By this logic, I cant wait until they come out with the N64 Classic and it'll cost about $120 for 12 games.

Don't know how much N64 games cost on the e-shop but you could actually be right. If they ever make one that is.

They're $10 for N64 games on Wii U eShop. I'm sure they'll make one and it'll sell out in 10 minutes.

I think they'll stop at N64 though. The NGC would be too recent and it would be stupid high in price.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but why would anyone buy this when you can just emulate for free. Pretty sure I'm the first person to mention this. And here's a bonus one: has anyone heard of Raspberry Pi? You can load full romsets from many retro systems onto an SD card. Just wanted to pop in here and make sure you guys are all aware of these points. Haven't seen any of them posted yet. To summarize: you can emulate all these games for free. Just a reminder in case anyone was unaware. Peace

My normie girlfriend would only play the games if they were playable on an actual console otherwise it would "feel" wrong.

Don't underestimate how much feeling and the emotion of opening a shiny box feels to normies.

It's not about the end result of playing the videogames. It's about the entire experience of the smell of new electronics when you open the package. Reading through the setup guide. Connecting the controllers. The first feel of the controller in your hand. Turning on the system for the first time on your screen. Seeing the UI of the main menu and then clicking the game to play it for 1-2 hours and never touch it ever again.

Normie consumerism.

The main game was boring and the world felt empty. I felt no urge to explore and simply went directly to my objectives (the four divine beasts) then killed ganon. It was boring and easy. I did a 3 heart Ganon run which was a fun challenge, but it was short. At no time did any of this feel like a "Zelda" game. It felt like a generic open world action RPG. While I understand that there are people who like that genre, I do not and I especially do not like it when a series I enjoy decided to recreate itself as a genre I do not like. To use a food analogy as those a big with you big guys:
>I go to McDonalds for burgers

Taking things away from kids because manchildren will pay too much for them

This is good for two reasons

1) Children learn the value of video games as software, not plastic crap
2) Manchildren are bankrupted or forced to grow up

Scalping classic editions is just being an asshole though. Well adjusted people buy that for nostalgia or so their kids can easily experience the same video games they did.

Did you get too many head x-rays?

Selling out of the NES mini, Nintendo now has two options for the most profit. Produce more next time to satisfy the demand, or raise prices to take advantage of the demand. Looks like they are doing both because the SNES mini is more expensive and they are making more of them.

The relationship you're describing, of lower prices and high production, has the cause and effect backwards. Lowering prices is what you do to increase demand when you made too many units and now you need to sell them to cut your losses. But that's not whats going on, demand for the classic editions is astronomical.

>>
>>382163332
I'm saying their price point and their initial stock number aren't just random, they're based on an optimal shipping cost formula. Their actuaries definitely said if we price it at 79.99 we'll be able to ship X units and get Y profit. If we make more than X we'll have to pay for the larger boat/plane if we make less we leave room on the boat/plane, if we adjust the price down, we lose money, up we risk losing sales, etc. There are people who go to college and study this for a living so that businesses can eek out an extra 3c per sale across 1M units. They know what they're doing

They probably won't. My money is on the next thing up will be a Gameboy Classic, it will look like a DS Lite cut in half and will have 30 or so GB, GBC, and GBA games for about $50.

I'm kind of doubtful they'll do an N64 mini, at least not this quickly. Besides they've already ported most of its really good games to ARM already for the DS so it would make more sense for them to wait for some sort of 'DS classic edition' to re-release them.

Fuck I can't wait and have to ask. Can you add the box art and everything so the UI stays proper?
>>
>>382165464
Why would I do that when my Raspberry Pi can do all of that and more. Mine mainly gets used for NEO GEO games, I wish more companies would follow their lead and just sell the roms on GoG and Humble.
>>
>>382166409
Yes, it can be a bit of effort if you want it to look proper but you can. It'll look just like as if the original nes classic had come with 600+ games.
>>
>>382166414
Do we know what specs the snes mini has yet? Is it faster or slower than a Pi?

regional manager for NOA here

shit like this is made solely for promotional purposes, they create a lot of buzz and function as physical advertisement for our back catalog. The demand created for our current hardware/software after we sell shit like this is significant, enough so that its worth the negligible cost in manufacturing and distribution. Don't even have to spend marketing on it, we send a press release and the press does it all for us

It's pretty funny watching the frenzy it creates. From what I understand a lot of time was put into determining the artificial scarcity of the units, optimizing for the highest level of customer frustration while selling enough to ensure that retailers bother stocking it

Once the parents/manchildren don't get what was supposed to be the big get of the season, they overcompensate come the holidays with a Switch or N3DS.

Meanwhile rumor in the office is that Reggie has taken to sitting through quarterly meetings playing Persona on his PSP

wow sounds legit!
>>
>>382166518
We probably won't know for certain until its released and somebody takes it apart. I'd guess that the hardware will be exactly the same as the NES Mini.

The Pi has a bunch of advantages in that its cheap, readily available with no shortages, and has a massive amount of community support with support for usb and bluetooth controllers.

Why not play your emulators instead of complaining? I'm emulating Pokemon White on my phone :3

I want to make an emulation box but I haven't researched anything. I just want to be able to emulate up to the playstation with few bugs. Can the Pi do that? Does playstation emulation kind of suck to keep the speed up?
>>
The Raspberry Pi sounds cool, but it looks too complicated. I know its probably not, but still I'd rather just drop some dosh. Though Ill probably only end up buying a few and reselling them once they run out never even opening it.
>>
>tfw every kind of emulation no matter what has annoying input lag compared to the original thing
>>
Its LITERALLY irrelevant because it will be hacked in a week to hold the entire library.

This should be a bannable thread by now. Please stop making this thread 60 times a fucking day. Kill yourself.

Kill yourself. Please die.

Why not just build the original consoles and games cartridges. They could charge $500 for a snes and $100 a cart and could keep them sold out with small runs.
>>
>>382168521
that would be profitable
>>
>>382167882
I haven't used mine for Playstation games much (I'm generally more nostalgic about older 2d systems than the early 3d systems) but in the little bit of testing I did with FF7 and Xenogears it seemed to work quite well.

What I really haven't tried is I've heard about people running Dreamcast games on it and that has me wondering about getting Ikaruga and DOA2 going on it.
>>
>>382168604
I don't even care about nintendo that much now, and I'm fine with emulators, but I would probably buy a brand new snes with wifi and an hdmi out for $500.
>>
>>382168521
There are people doing that. Look up the RetroUSB AVS
>>
>>382168317
What would it take to fix this, wouldn't someone have to write an OS for specific hardware like the pi, then write an emulator for that OS?

Another thing is aren't the old PS/2 ports for keyboards and mice supposed to be jesus? Instead of waiting on the system to poll the input, the input interrupts the system. Seems like there would be a way to take advantage of that.
>>
>>382168940
I've seen those, very tempting, but I would probably buy an old snes before that. Small run nintendo consoles would hold value pretty well, and there is something nice about having it built by nintendo. The AVS is a really interesting thing though.

Somehow, I'm not feeling a pressing need to own one of these.

>They could sell the damned things with a single game and people would still buy them.

That's Nintendo's next big thing. NES/SNES Micros! The gaming console that fits on your keyring!! Put in one of the Micromiibo cartridges and play 10 seconds of your favorite retro classics!!

Pi costs more, no matter how many roms you can flash.

>pi
>costs more

Even if you can somehow get an SNES Mini for MSRP at $80+tax.

Pi - $35
heatsinks $3
case $10
power supply $5
sd card $5
controller $10x2
hdmi cable $1
total $79

If you already have some of those things then its a lot cheaper.
The pi and devices like it are the future of open platform gaming.
>>
>tfw only want to get one for an official new snes controller
Are the ibuffalo snes controller really good? Don't want to drop $80 just for a controller.
>>
>>382148453
Why not EMULATOR and 1000's of FREE ROMS?!?!?!?one!?!?!?!?
>>
Didn't the supposed "leaker" who posted here about the SNES Classic claim this thing was going to also have all the NES Classic games included?
>>
>>382148680
12 games?
what do you need 3 games for?
>>
>>382165118
Tell you what, let's have the pc engine-classic edition first, and *THEN* later on we can have a turbo duo classic edition with TG-16 turbopads, uh?
>>
>>382166223
So, about 128-256 roms? Or do save slots take up more space?

>DKC2 would be a better choice than DKC
DKC is the third-best-selling SNES game. DKC2 is not.

>DKC is the original and great and all, but DKC is probably the most nostalgic game in the SNES's library
Are you stupid? Also, absolutely fucking not.
>>
>>382168959
Make it like ZSNES, very low input lag.
>>
>>382170718
I don't think either are a bad deal

The NES mini had lower specs than the pi, and so will the snes mini. It just needs to run snes games.

With the minis you get a nice case and controllers, with a home build setup you're not getting good controllers for 10 dollars. So you end up spending more on the Pi, but you can play any system from the playstation and down, and the community improves the emulation over time. I'm sure the emulators in the minis only need to be good enough to play the games they ship with. People might see a fair amount of problems when they load new games on the snes mini.
>>
>>382170983
They're really good, especially when you can find them for $10. I've bought four now and they've all been excellent.
>>
>>382172109
>DKC is the third-best-selling SNES game. DKC2 is not.

In 1994 when it was new, and the graphics were unique. Attitudes towards media changes a lot in retrospect. DKC2 is way more appreciated than DKC today. This is like responding to the claim that empire strikes back is the best star wars movie with the fact that star wars grossed a lot more. That's not the point retard. But if you don't perceive things like your fan base, it makes perfect sense why Nintendo would choose the one with the best sales.

>Are you stupid? Also, absolutely fucking not.
I assume you realized my typo. The nostalgia for DKC2 is massive. Shut up faggot. Why you would dispute something so ubiquitous escapes me.
>>
>>382172925
What does it do differently? As far as I know all the major hurdles of reducing input lag are below the program layer and not fixable.

https://byuu.org/articles/latency/
>>
I'm assuming it's just a repackaged NES Classic, therefore has the same memory capacity, so smaller library for 16-Bits games
>>
>>382175202
Assembly code, speed hacks, originally designed for DOS machines.
>>
How do i preorder a bunch of these?

Nintendo? Giving people more than they have to? Not a chance.
