Fact is that those games clearly share the same formula. Just like Ubisoft has a formula that is apparent in most their games, so too do Sony's first party games nowadays. They're all these cinematic experiences, something the new GoW has also become.

Which is clear from the fact that all talking points about that game are about the story, the relationship to his son, and the fact that there aren't any cuts in the game (just like some movies!). No one is talking about the actual gameplay. A big change from previous GoW titles that had such trophies as Bros Before Hoes.

I get from where you're coming but I think in this specific case a Story Mode was needed, not for Story, of course, but for Gameplay variation, I think a Storymode akin to that of Splatoon would have helped A LOT, especially because with a new mechanic like stretching arms you can make interesting levels and interaction opportunities, plus we know they worked on some sort of story so it doesn't make sense to not include it/announce it'll come at a later date

Watch Dogs 2 is pretty alright.
