Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. Also, he has a point. The tournament players are by and large just playing the top tiers in these Vs games. It has always been like that. No one cared who She-Hulk was in the original MvC3. They used her because she was good. Magneto and Doom are really strong in nearly every game they've been in, so they have a huge following.

Of course for the spectators and casual players it is a different story, but even then just look at Injustice 2.

Even with these fan driven games that have big online communities, people are mostly picking characters based on how cheesy or strong they are. They do get boiled down to being functions. On the flip side, for how much people claim to love the waifu characters in nearly any fighting game, they consistently see little play when they aren't high or top tier

I wish you could do this in Tekken and SoulCalibur. I can understand forcing it for player matches, but there should be an option to turn off customizations in ranked matches. Make it so that the user can see them, but not the opponent. Weapons and such shouldn't even be useable in ranked anyway.

Part of it is because of the horrid options for Tekken customization and the huge focus on random crap on your head and back, but it is obnoxious how many people think their crappy bright pink ironically gay outfits are. They all do it and all think they are original and creative and funny

Often times the people begging for wolverine's inclusion either won't use him when he is included, or won't even play the game at all. Capcom knows that there is a very small portion of the potential community that won't get the game because X isn't in it. The lack of a certain character has never been a factor in fighting games. Injustice has far more options to deal with spam. It's almost hilarious cus I never liked an nrs game beyond the first week and so far play green lantern(who is shit), but beating the kids spamming projectiles is fairly straightforward.
