nuCOM is a shitty tactical jrpg. Instead of building on everything turn-based (and not) tactical games achieved, we got "roll the dice for everything". Go forth, have fun. Google "Essential mods for first time play", though. There's a bunch of small but significant "What the fuck were they thinking?" problems with the game that mods will fix and make the game amazing, though, like how the game determines damage and crits with the same roll, or how it doesn't properly calculate the stats for late-level recruits, all fixed with mods.

But other than that, the game is phenomenal and you should play it ASAP.
