Should I just refund this? Does it get better? I just want a good cyberpunk game
>>
It doesn't feel cyberpunk until you get to a certain city a few hours into the game. Despite the gameplay improvements I think its the worst Deus Ex (worse than Invisible War). Play any of the others to scratch that itch tho.
>>
it gets a waaay lot better. i was worried as well but i can genuinely say that md was probably the best deus ex in terms of gameplay and hubs.

>>
>>382114413
I've played until the end, so I guess it means it's not terrible, but there's something very wrong about this game and I can't quite tell what. For one, the end felt very sudden and out of place. It also limits the events to one city, which isn't all that exciting either.

All in all, it's not bad, but it felt more like an expansion than a whole game.
>>

>First mission isn't cyberpunk at all its in a desert in a ruined dubai
Why are these things mutually exclusive?
>>
>>382117413
You played part 1.
Part 2 was in development but Square stopped it to make a Marvel game.
>>
>>382117583
Ah, that makes sense. It really felt like it was only half of the game. Most characters didn't even come into play.

Yeah, it was originally going to be a single, huge game, but Square decided to go full jew, splitting the game and selling its parts for maximum profit.
They also forced some missions to be dlcs, and added microtransactions without the team's consent (they weren't even there in the review copies).

Then Marvel offered even easier money, so Square totally dropped the Deus Ex franchise.
Despite part 2 of Mankind Divided being in development for more than a year and half.
>>
>>382114413
This is either b8 or OP is the most retarded faggot on /v/.
>>
>>382118005
Square's god awful pre-order and microtransaction jewing attempts had people against the game from the start even though it was pretty good.
>>
>>382115061
If we are talking about story and execution here I would agree with you. But if you can say that the atmosphere in the city mixed with the music didn't give you some crazy cyberpunk feels than I might have to beat your ass. This game had some good ass atmosphere

Imo prauge didn't have a cyberpunk feel because it had too much of a European 'new nestled with old' look. When I think cyberpunk i think tons of skyscrapers with the older/smaller buildings being reduced to tightly packed slums for the underclass. Prauge felt more like a modern day European city where the old buildings are blended with the new ones
>>
>>382118817
A lot of the times it works, I suppose. And cyberpunk aesthetics have always relied on granularity. But it does look like they went more=better sometimes without regard for the bigger picture.
>>
>>382119224
The new clashing with the old is pretty cyberpunk though. Although maybe they shuold've shown the old buildings to be a bit more dilapidated.

Call me crazy, but I prefer the look of HR. I really liked the colour scheme and the world had a cohesiveness to it. MK was kinda hard to look at, like sharpening was enabled even if I had it disabled in settings. The lack of a 'piss filter' equivalent also made it really mundane.

kinda funny that the game with no DRM was a massive success while the game with Denuvo was a flop that killed the franchise despite being a better game.

I kind of agree with this. Prague, while larger than Detroit or Hengsha, still feels quite condensed. It could stand to be more spread out.

I don't expect a sprawling, fully walkable city, mind you - but something that gives the impression of a big city at least. They could've done this by using the subway to split the city up into more districts, so at least you get the feeling of travelling outside of this relatively tiny area. Games have been using world maps and overworlds to that effect for decades now, and it works pretty well to provide a sense of scale, while being very light on development resources.

Longest, most intriguing and complex sidequests in the whole series
>only 1 hub
Huge, inconnected world full of detail and environmental narrative
>1 dumb boss
Bosses, literally the one thing EVERYBODY complained about in Human Revolution

>>382128083
it has better level design, pacing, actual consequences in character building/more gameplay systems, more fun augs, more memorable music, is longer, more enemy variety, stealth/takedowns aren't as trivially easy (incl. having lighting mechanics)

I'm upset about how hated it is.

The location is fantastic with clash of old european buildings and futuristic ones (they really played with this theme quite a lot).

The levels have many approaches and hidden secrets, also highly detailed with environmental storytelling.

The gameplay is a straight upgrade from HR and even lets you disable all the disgusting HUD clutter and minimap.

The sidemissions are varied and interesting, they also can have long lasting outcomes.

The visuals are quite good, they make use of deferred shading which is very smart for a game with so many light sources, very impressive use of screen space reflection with minimal to no glitches.

The main story is weak I admit, that's the only negative I can agree on.
>>
I finished Desu Sex: Human Revolution, but I wasn't too happy with it. You get all these weapons and lethal gadgets, but the game heavily encourages you to go stealth and nonlethal.
Also
>dat ending

How does Mankind Divided handle this?
>>
>>382130956
You get equal xp for combat approaches.
Also you get xp for opening doors and computers with passwords.
It was so silly in HR how you basically gimp yourself for using those and missing out on the hacking xp.

MD is way better in the sense that you can actually do lethal shit for once.

It doesn't matter what you think is enough, it's a simple fact that if you chose hacking over door/computer codes in HR you end up with much less xp.
It was silly because it encourages you to hack doors where you know the code.
That was fixed in MD, that's all I was saying.

Something I noticed was how so few missions had multiple objectives or story points. Like riding the funicular down in Montreal. Instead it's grab this thing and fuck off or go to the one elevator or just escape. The ARC compound is enormous but it all feels pointlessly excessive because 80% of it is in the "go to elevator" phase of the mission and if you stick to the bottom floor you find a grate that skips most of it almost immediately. Or the church where it's just get to the top floor which you can easily do from the starting courtyard in a couple of minutes. Ironically the most "Deus Ex" level is probably London but there they pressure you to rush through half of it under an invisible timer.
>>
>>382137453
just wait a couple years dude... everything in that region goes backwards... not forwards.

>>382137621
I dunno what's funny, I'm old enough that I missed the boat on it, but can still appreciate the mechanics they added that were really ahead of its time.

People expect mechanics like that now because all games have them... there's nothing new in it, or cutting edge. WHOA! You can move and stand on a box! The only thing it gives the newer generation is shitty graphics and garbage ai.

I don't care about story or scope (I know it was a defining feature of the original Deus Ex, I just dont care that much about these things at this point) too much at this point - how is the gameplay?

Modern cyberpunk lacks the self awareness and gritty from the 80's - 90's, it just isn't the same, its too clean, too shiny and takes itself too seriously.

>>382141973

People forget that cyberpunk was mainly literature and it's a very odd amalgamation of (for the lack of better words) high and low brow culture. Now that the edge of the genre is just not there (literally no one bats an eye at an anti-hero sci-fi protagonist, for one) and the authors have mostly moved on, only mediocre writers remain who can't publish a book for their life so they end up being videogame scenario writers; and being mediocre, they inevitably fuck up everything with clichés and rigid, "safe" world building.
