Persona 5
>Took 6 years to make
>Is a bloated mess
Catherine
>Dude we got Gamebryo and you can push blocks!
>Has actual depth and is better all around
Really makes you think
>>382087765
I agree, but calling it a bloated mess is a bit much. But hey, this is how /v/ works I guess
>>382087765
Catherine was actually unique and fun.
>bootcut slacks
unf
>>382087765
Ok, why in the hell are there eyes so far apart from each other? It's fucking jarring. Especially on the cat.
>>382087765
>bloated mess
I think that's a little harsh. That aside though, goddamn, why was Catherine so good? I just replayed it for the first time since release and even beat all of Babel. What a rush.
>>382089451
I don't really like puzzle games that can become tedious, is Catherine my kind of game?
>>382087874
>>382089451
How is it harsh?
>>382090274
>Don't do Palace
>Get a fucking text from the group EVERY SINGLE DAY about how we should REALLY do the Palace
>Do the Palace
>Get a text from the group EVERY SINGLE DAY about wondering if they succeeded or not
>>382090274
what do you mean by this ? The texting app looks sexy as fuck. If you're talking about how Ryuji rambles a lot than yeah sure I guess
I know this thread is bait but has anyone noticed that the personas got less cool-looking as the series progressed?
>1 and 2: SMT-style demons with robotic/humanoid elements; cool and detailed as shit
>3: robotic humanoid knights with less Kaneko influence but still rad
>4: straying away from knight/armor theme and becoming more like Pokemon with their level of detail (or lack thereof)
>5: literally just a bunch of megaman bosses
It's kind of sad imo. To go from this to whatever the fuck Futaba's persona is supposed to be, mang
>>382090049
It is, just don't play Rapunzel then
>>382090657
I disagree
>>382087874
It's bloated as fuck but not a mess
>>382090657
Base form Personas in 5 are actually pretty rad but I do like 1-3 style a lot more. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with the evolved froms though, all of them are significantly worse.
>>382089451
Haven't played Catherine, why is it so well liked?
>>382090437
This was annoying as fuck. At least in 3 and 4 your characters only bugged you every few days at best.
>>382090437
>summer break
>get a text every night on wanting to hang out
>>382091745
Vincent is Troy Baker's best role
>>382092468
In 3 I was wishing something would fucking happen during the summer break.
>>382087765
I want to tell Ryuji he looks silly in that hat and then kiss him
Yusuke just looks like he's wearing Jokers winter clothes.
Also best catherine ending?
>>382093039
Space is Canon
>>382092889
this but with futaba and yusuke
>>382087765
>better all around
You seriously imply that P5 didn't progress in tech from Catherine? If this isn't a bait, then it's just straight up ignorance.
I've been replaying Catherine now after finishing P5 because I wanted a reminder of how much I loved the models in Catherine already, and it's just a very flawed game in retrospect. It just feels like a tech demo to show off the new engine that they're using for something bigger (Persona 5). The only depth it has is in the gameplay, which in itself is a very simple concept with some added flavor to keep it interesting for everyone, not just puzzle fanatics.
It's not that I don't like Catherine, it's a great game but OP's post is just complete bullshit, if it's a bait then I've fallen for it.
I loved P5 but I was disappointed that the social link system was basically exactly the same as in 3 and 4, instead of taking some of the elements from Catherine. For example the texting between the player and the team members/confidants was basic, and only gave you one or two word dialogue choices to reply with and even then your choice didn't actually matter unless they were asking you to hang out. Whereas in Catherine you could choose a number of options to write a substantial message
to respond with that also influenced your relationship with each girl.
I also would have liked it if social links had more depth to them, such as different outcomes based on your input. Not necessarily "good" or "bad" endings for characters but just different ways of having their story progress. As it is I think 5 is the only one in which you can't break or reverse a link, which shows that social links haven't become any more complex since their introduction. Having said that the social links in 5 were, in my opinion, more enjoyable and well written than the links in 3 and 4.

SPACE
>>382093076
It is? Cool.
>>382093745
The lack of depth is more due to the calendar system than anything.
>>382090657
Arsene, Johanna, Captain Kidd, Susanoo are cool as fuck
>>382090657
The designs in 5 were great though.
That's just like your opinion bro
>>382093745
If you could break or reverse a link in P5, what would happen to the Confidant bonuses ? Would you lose them or keep them ? How would you explain that Kawakami still shows up to do your laundry on a daily basis if she's supposed to be hating you ?
Including differents endings, breakable links and all that shit would run the overall balance between the various sub-systems and make the game a big mess.
Also P5 is designed to be possible to 100% in one run compared to the previous games, because they knew the audience they were aiming for would not have the patience to wait until NG+ to start having fun
>>382091745
I'd say the main appeal of it is its uniqueness. Lots of things about it are great, like the music and character designs. Dubs really good too
