Well, I'll be honest, I haven't played it much because I got spooked really hard by it and I really suck at these games. But my friend played it solo because nobody wanted to play it with him and enjoyed it.
Pirate it and see if you'll like it.

The game at Microsoft's E3 with the yellow-shirted shoutcaster might be a survival thing, but from the looks of it there's still a strong focus on PvP and is probably going to be another Battlegrounds situation but with cooldowns. I don't know how much interest there is in a game that's solely surviving.

I recommend The Long Dark. Cozy game that provides a decent challenge. 2 story mode chapters are release August 1st as well with 3 more to follow eventually.
