Subnautica thread
I started playing Subnautica just after the latest update and I just built my first cyclops. Help me name it and color it so the leviathans think it's kawaii.

Also tell me where I should explore first now that I can go 500+m down into the darkness.

I've never left base without my repair tool since

I've only found the torpedo arm. I also haven't been to the Aurora. It seems pretty spooky.
And I do have the radiation suit, so I've just been avoiding going there.

Make it Sea Emperor colored so it scares them off.
>>
So I took a trip to the mountain island to get some samples from the sap making trees, and fuggin bonesharks took off like a quarter of the cyclop's health while sailing through the floating islands.
Is it supposed to attract every predator around and then get shredded like tissue paper?

Why?
Legitimately wondering because I never do so but never tried or even thought to.
>>
>>382085447
I build them in the strangest places and never had much trouble. Make sure you prioritize things you need, like a fabricator so you've got access to everything and just move it to it's intended location when you've built it. If you've got at least a Seamoth/PRAWN and the Cyclops use them as well. Load up their storage and your own pockets so you're carrying a good amount of shit to begin with. If necessary build a waystation in between and scrap it when you've got more storage/whatever in your new home. I also just like puttering about in my submarines and hop out whenever I see useful shit on the journeys in between. That helps.

Go to wrecks and abandoned bases.
>>
>>382085704
>battery charger
Just look for wrecks in mid-depth areas. I've seen wrecks with like 5 battery charger fragments in the grassy plateaus.
>multipurpose room
The floating island has bases with multipurpose rooms
>thermal generator
there's a wreck in the grand reef with ~4 fragments (I just found it in my initial exploration)
>vehicles
Again, look for wrecks a couple hundred meters down. Plenty of cyclops parts.

Building bases in nice dark spots in exceedingly comfy. Currently building one that starts inside a cave system somewhere in the mountains, snakes up all the way through the passageways and comes up in somewhere in the Mountains. Right outside my bedroom a Reaper likes to swim around because I didn't realize it was right in it's patrol path when I started ]but am okay with it. Really wish they'd fix the floodlights though, my cave sections are dark as shit when outside, but more than two spotlights drains more than two thermal generators can handle because some values are wonky.

Upgrade your sub, you lazy fuck
>>
>>382088932
One swipe gives you four spores. Considering it's right next to my base, I can go in and just grab a medkit from the fabricator. Main thing is you need to keep them separated from other plants because if you smack two for four spores, all your plants explode. It's why they're all in a separate planter there, right outside still on the foundations I've got the same thing with deep shrooms.

Does the thermometer actually have a use for the player itself? I'll build the heat charger for the PRAWN, but I've never got what you could use the player carryable for. If you build a thermal plant you're going to put it as close to the vents as possible anyway, and you're not likely to go looking for a smidgen of heat for the Cyclops heat charging module because the only two places it'll fit and are hot enough are open water vents and the lava zones.

>>382090950
I like it, options aren't extreme to the point of being able to build an entire city but comfy seabases are the thing to do. You can interior decorate with the basics and do it basically anywhere. Only creature that can fuck it with is Crabsquids because they have an EMP that knocks your power out so don't build in their territory.

It's pretty good. The best thing is that you can build a base practically anywhere on the map. There are no pre defined areas where you have to build a base like Fallout 4 or Skyrim.

There is also a nice variety of objects you can fill your base with, some actually useful, some just aesthetic. It's not sims level of customization but it's pretty robust.

They nerfed the Cyclops way too hard. Now I don't even build the thing anymore, since I always build my base in the Grassy Plateau near the island, since it's the best place for a base. The Cyclops is completely pointless when there's a moonpool nearby. The titanium could be better spent building another base close by instead of getting a useless, clunky piece of garbage that gets killed by various fish life.
>>
>>382092293
Remember, the Leviathan's roar is it using echo location. If you can hear it, it can hear you.
>>
>>382093175
With the first Silent Running update I got annoyed with how often you had to go out and repair holes because of boneshark/lava lizard attacks but since VotD I haven't had any problems. The new Overshield is strong enough to stop attacks by both of those and 30 seconds is enough get away from any leviathan types. Only place you might get attacked that you have to power through is the section of the Lost River with Crabsquids followed by the seethrough fish things, and you can easily make it through there with the craftable shield module + silent running.

>>382093590
While your bases are currently safe, the developers don't have any plans to add creature danger to your base until "at least for 1.0". Might need a similar perimeter defense system as the Seamoth for your bases at some point.

Where should I look for water filtration fragments? It's pretty much the last "essential" component I need.
>>
>>382093175
The thermal upgrade for the cyclops is pretty dope though. Worth it if you plan on going really deep in the lava zones.

The changes to silent running suck though.

Click a button to be invisible for 15 seconds then power down and wait for your cooldowns to come back.
>>
>>382094008
There's a whole machine in the shroom cave base. Just scan that.
>>
>>382092293
I made the mistake of building a base around some crabsquids who proceeded to constantly attack it and flood it.

Had to use the prawnsuit grappling hook to hunt them down and punch them to death.
>>
>>382093768
No, even that upgrade is not enough to make the Cyclops useful. It's just illogical to make if you know anything about the game. Having a moonpool and a PRAWN suit is all you need. For deep dives, you should bring nutrient blocks and large bottled water so you can make the dive. You can't park the Cyclops anywhere without it breaking to bits because of how big and clunky it is. The Seamoth and PRAWN are usable because they're small and you can outmaneuver lots of enemies. Leviathans can't even catch a Seamoth unless they're coming at you from the side/front.
>>
>>382094008
>tfw they removed the water filtration from the wreck in the grassy plateau in front of the Aurora
Fuck, I still go there every time and end up being disappointed.

The water filtration machine is by no means a necessity. Stocking up on fruit is a far better alternative. Hydromelons give you 15 food and 22 water, and that tree that you can knife gives you 3 food and 10 water. They don't kill your bases power and only require 2 titanium to grow, and you can grow tons of them.
>>
I have really been wanting to play this game more, but would like to play with others. When are they going to add multiplayer?
>>
>>382094164
The cyclops is more of a mobile base anyway, and not really meant for exploration.

I always take mine down to the lava zones or wherever and park it near the entrance then explore with the prawn suit.

Trying to explore with the cyclopes is going to be frustrating because its slow and now attracts every sea creature within 1000 yards.
>>
>>382094164
>You can't park the Cyclops anywhere without it breaking to bits because of how big and clunky it is.

If you turn the engines and lights off before you park it then creatures won't notice it. IIRC most of the lava biomes are over 1000m deep anyway so it's either bring a cyclops or go home.
>>
>play for 4 hours
>frame stutter starts to get on nerves

Do I need to just stop being a big bitch and deal with it? Any 3rd party fixes? It's a really enjoyable game, I just cant deal with the optimisation.
>>
>>382094164
>You can't park the Cyclops anywhere without it breaking to bits
I usually take the Cyclops through the smalller Blood Kelp Zone to the ILZ. During Silent Running the bumps would create holes but the current Overshield keeps them from happening even while taking a few licks on the way down. I've little trouble going all the way into the Active Lava Zone without any notable damage altogether. In the end the Cyclops is just a mobile base/transport for the PRAWN/Moth anyway. Exploration is done by swimming or taking the smaller vehicles into tight spots.
>>
>>382094395
Supposedly they are but we don't know yet. It would probably be something like coop or something, but right now its just a "maybe" feature they want to add.

>>382094426
Now that most of the content is out I think they are doing a optimization update. There is a way to clear out your savedata and it makes the stutter go away but it basically resets your world so it is kind of annoying.
>>
>>382094565
>>382094395
Multiplayer will never happen. It was a "perhaps someday" in like 2015, but the idea's been dead long since.
>>
>>382094423
The PRAWN has a crush depth 200m lower than the Cyclops, so it's not really a problem at all to just bring a PRAWN. I know my way around the Lost River well enough to make it to the Active Lava Zone and back in one trip with only 2 nutrient blocks and 2 waters.

Again, having an actual base near the Grand Reef is far better than having a Cyclops there. Less farming Stalkers for teeth, way more efficient on titanium, and you can easily stock up on tons of fish there. The cyclops being near immortal was its one and only benefit to experienced players, and they basically broke it.

then it didn't at all and that their performance patches are coming at the very end rather than fixing shit in the beginning so they aren't working on spaghetti code.
>>
the fact that EVERYTHING needs batteries now makes this game so tedious
>>
>>382095148
No but you also very easily can get water and food early once you get a base going.
>>
>>382095112
Well, I save frequently and never go anywhere without the grapple arm, so it's all G. It's not like the entire area is just a wide open space filled with lava on the floor. Even just grappling from enemy to enemy can get you through most of the ILZ.
>>
>>382095148
You can catch a few fish in the beginning, swim to a certain island and find a ridiculously useful plant that gives you both really early. Then you're good. If not that, there's also a mode that is the same in every way, except for hunger/thirst being removed. Either option will be nearly identical in experience.
>>
>>382095148
Water and food are kinda necessary to balance things, since otherwise your only limit on how deep and long you can penetrate into the bowels of the Earth is your energy, and you can carry tons of batteries or powercells.

They're not necessary per se, but the game becomes a lot more frightening with them on, even if they are theoretically easy to manage.

Tools take up precious inventory space. A lot of this game is about gathering, rather than farming. Unless you want to take repeated trips, you've gotta choose your slots wisely. Your most useful tools can take up 4, even 9 inventory slots, so you've got to be extra careful.

You could always keep everything with you, but that means less loot, and you'll be sorry when you want to expand your base some but don't have any lithium for reinforcements because you decided to take an unnecessary flashlight or propulsion cannon with you.

>>
>>382096678
The terror only makes it more enjoyable.
>>
>get loaded up and ready to explore deep sea regions
>end up reaching the end of the map and somehow passing everything within 5 minutes

Even if I hug the ocean floor I can hardly find anything. One time I went REALLY deep near the Aurora and just got stuff in a seemingly infinite cave system that the devs probably put in and just forgot about so it was this pitch black intestinal-like complex of a cave.
>>
>>382096585
I've grown accustomed to always keeping the Cannon on me at all times because if I don't I'll end up going into the ILZ and forget it. Which, until they get the Shield module working 100% with ridding your Cyclops of Leeches, is kind of needed because the knife can be equally fidgety at times. Agreed about the Glide, but once I get to a certain point where I go scavenging with the Cyclops/PRAWN as large backpacks for storage, I'll take it with me to cover a good swath of ocean floor in one trip. Aurora is a special case though, only time you really plan your tools out because going twice is an annoyance if you're without a Seamoth or don't want to risk a Reaper spawning close to the edge of the entrance.
>>
>>382096850
That's the passage to the Lava Zone
>>
>>382096850
No, that cave leads to the game's endgame. It's pretty obvious when you reach the abyss, and you should think about turning back because literally every strong enemy is lurking in those depths.

Just your daily reminder that all of Subnautica takes place on a huge plateau surrounded by insanely deep ocean filled with mindbogglingly large predators, and that the rest of the world is like that.
>>
>>382096850
That cavern actually leads somewhere. I believe they're removing it in the future though, so you'll have to take the other routes to get to where it ends.

Tell me this is a joke.

I thought black people shootings didn't count because the news sure doesn't give a fuck about them.

Its every time, every sale, complemented with the salty anons who complain about the lack of guns.

The problem is with Americans not guns
>>

In game such a narrative isn't pushed, it's vaguely mentioned why the fabricator doesn't make guns. Really though you faggots are butt hurt because someone has a different opinion without even playing the fucking game to see if said narrative is there.

Your probably the same type of fags who preach free speech too.

One of the devs literally said "America has school shootings everyday"
Refund this if you have half a brain.

>Massive arguments about adding guns.

I think they should add them, it would be great. Plus then we can get revenge on the birds for abducting us.

Make them entirely ineffective against the actual threats. Sure you can kill some biters, but all the bullets do is piss off the larger things.
