The point is... Venom is Big Boss. He is de facto BB. BB's memories created Venom. They were both born out of the hardships a single man endured. It really doesn't matter who Venom used to be - he is Big Boss. The feats of both are justifiably attributed to one name.

That's the whole point of the game and the ending. You might be disappointed by the game, but if there's one thing you've got to take away from it, it's that.

The plan to turn him into Big Boss only worked because he was so devoted to his leader to begin with. If it were anyone else with the slightest doubt about BB's motives, it wouldn't have worked.

Does that matter? It could have been Ocelot, it could have been Kaz, it could have been anyone else who made the decision, but it was Venom instead and that adds to his character whether you like it or not.

You're being way too generous. The whole Kojima situation has effectively ruined any and all chances of it being successful. Almost all MGS fans won't pick it up because of their god worship of Kojimbo and newcomers will just be confused and have a distorted vision of the franchise. Even if it IS a great game it'd still flop tremendously. Why Konami chose to make this over a remake of other titles in the FOX Engine baffles me. That said, I hope it's still fun

Venom is Big Boss. Not in a figurative way, but he is literally a persona that Big Boss dreamed up because he can't come to terms that he himself doesn't live up to the title of Big Boss anymore. Everything that happened in the Truth mission was Big Boss trying to erase his guilt of what he's done and what he will do, by convincing himself that he's a different man, a better man.

"Oh no, not me, I never lost control"

Just look at the whole Paz storyline. Venom hallucinates an entire room, people, and audio tapes, just to rid himself of losing one person. A person who lied, betrayed, and was one of the causes of all his men dying. And yet he feels guilty for not saving her.

Venom is a construct of Big Boss's mind. He can't deal with the guilt of losing his men, and can't live with himself doing the evil things he has to do. So he creates Venom as a way of running away from his own sins and failures.
