The issue is that tanks are already in short supply, you only need 2 at most in raids and if they made their raid role have actual difficulty then it'd be even harder for tanks to find spots.

Funny how for random matchmaking tanks have the easy life but for finding a consistent group/static its actually pretty tough since people never need "new" tanks and once you got two that are reliable then that's really it.

No not really. Alexander in particular focused on affecting ranged as equally as melee. Many of these mechanics are instant death, a3s had the only dedicated tank mechanic in Gordias. Midas was the tier that really started including tanks into mechanic doing, but still mostly positioning to avoid bombs in a5s, getting orbs in a6s, ball avoiding in a7s, a8s in general. Doesn't change that for most of these mechanics, it still wasn't lethal if you messed up. Mirage charges didn't kill you, orbs didn't kill you since it was healers job, a7s dps adjusted even if you fucked up.

Most classes require some time with it to play well though, there's no class that's easy you can pick up and just be 95th percentile after two pulls, even with how some classes were neutered. In terms of initial difficulty, I'd say MCH has the highest. It's almost a certainty that most MCHs will need to look up a guide because their stuff is the least straightforward of any dps just because of how variable Heat can be along with dealing with Boss invulns, phase skips, and aoe.

noob PLD question. I usually dont like doing large pulls cause i cant shake the fear of a bad healer. But also cause i dont know if i use my buffs right. When i do try to pull multiple mobs ill start with sentinel then rampart. But im not sure when i want to mix in some of the other def cooldowns like awareness and whatnot. Do i want to use them the same time as the flat damage reduction or should i use them after?

The one problem i found myself having is while i can hold agro and whatnot just fine i never feel like im using the def CD's correctly.

I also hate that playing PLD now is considered bangwagoning. I never really liked tanking on WAR and DRK even before the changes. I was happy to hear Paladin was good and got excied to play the job again after not touching it much in HW.

When you pull multiple groups of enemies, you're going to be under attack for a long time.
That's why you should use CDs one at a time, and only put on multiple ones if it seems your HP is dropping faster than the healer can heal.
If the healer is bad, you should notice that on the first (multi)pull and slow down accordingly. Even if you wipe, it's not a big deal at all. If you want to be extra nice, say something like "sorry, pulled too many" and then pull less

Same, i was so happypaladin was relevant again after playing it from arr to now, for big pulls i usually start off sentinel, once that wears off i pop rampart with bulwark, i make sure to spam clemency then fill my mp back from the sheltrons gained from bulwark's blocks, if you feel you can pop PoA for a while to fill oath to 100 do that, if dps are bad and still havent killed the pack pop hallowed if youre worried healer might let you die.

There are already a million SAM weeblords. RDM is looking incredibly strong for prog just because of their Raise and solid consistent damage without being too bogged down by mechanics. NIN is still the best melee in overall dps. BRD is also looking strong being a role that suffers no dps loss from doing mechanics and has enough raid dps contribution to make them more or less competitive with melee/casters. Refresh also lets PLD do like 5 extra holy spirits in the beginning.

I'm able to easily dominate in 8v8 matches but as soon as I go to Frontlines the whole thing is an awful clusterfuck in which it's impossible to actually fight or get kills unless some retard runs into your entire team. Also why does everybody ignore the pvp and the crystals and just afk in random places across the map occassionally going and capping another team's point for a whopping 2 points every few seconds.

Unfortunately this would require FFXIV to not be a DPS centric PvE progression meta, the fact you can burn bosses through phases/shorten mechanics through raw DPS only makes it worse as it makes doing more damage the end all goal of every class.

Honestly, crafting/gathering is only worth it if you want to devote time to something besides the current PVE content or you REALLY want money. It's been a boon while waiting for DPS queues since I'm constantly busy gathering ingredients and prepping base mats instead of spamming FATEs.

GC HQ turn-ins help a lot with leveling. While getting to 50, you should also use Courier crafting levequests and the Ixal beast tribe quests for extra chunks of exp. From 50-60, drop Ixal and do Moogle beast tribe instead.

If you don't enjoy the grind and the fact you won't make significant profit early on, I'd say it isn't for you.

Are you fucking kidding? Ever heard of 8 person raids? Tank switching? Shirk is fucking great. I saw raids wiped because of one slight discrepancy in aggro management between a main tank and offtank. Basicaly, there can often be a situation when the boss casts some kind of vulnerabilty on the main tank and follows up with a tank buster, and this is where the offtank is supposed to pull agro onto himself.

Remains to be seen if SAM will actually be good for meme speedkill comps, or they'll be like mnk with high personal dps and no synergy.

The only dps that's universally good is NIN because you really can't replace trick attack, and they have amazing utility and respectable dps to boot. The ranged are a close second, but mch is garbage right now and brd while good isnt as strong relative to the melees as it was at the end of 3.x. Optimal comps may well have no ranged at all once farm is over - only NIN really has a guaranteed slot.

There's a Roe guy in my FC and he's easily the coolest down to earth dude I've met, and from what I can tell through PF and DF, this is a normal thing.

It's an edgelord magnet, it's DRG that's actually supposed to tank the floor, and as a Healer, they're always been a huge pain in my ass to heal. In some Alex raids, they couldn't even survive Tankbusters most of the time, but soon as one ragequit and a PLD or WAR filled in for them, we had no issues whatsoever. This happened multiple times across multiple bosses and runs. Even in Dungeons I never got to dps much because they needed so much more healing babysitting than PLDs or WARs ever did, it was like having an undergeared tank all the time because "muh outhealing the damage instead of mitigating it"

Don't put healers through that.

With that said, though, there are RARELY good DRKs I've run into, so they exist. But they're far outnumbered by the bad ones and because the class isn't conducive. Just like finding non-ERPers in Balmung's Quicksand, they exist, but good luck.
